Damien's POV

It's been exactly 3 months since I was paired with Seraphine. I noticed she has been surprisingly nice towards me,she would wake up very early in the morning before me just to see that I get breakfast before going to work which I never expected from her.
Sometimes she would volunteer to help me out with some paperwork. At first I thought it was her accounting instincts that came into play but it's not about that.
Seeing her behave nice even when I tried making her feel frustrated pisses me off. I started noticing this ever since she got back from the stall with Diane the other day.
"Could it be that she became nice because she has her eyes on our wealth?".
.....That's probably it. Why haven't I thought of this earlier,no wonder she was so excited about accompanying Diane to the stall. The thought of her having such dubious thoughts made me furious. "I'll have to keep my eyes on her" I said.
"No wonder why she has been absurdly happy for some days like someone who just won a lottery" I said trying to sort
the files before me.
Brinng!! Brinng!!
"Hello princess what's it" I said as soon as I picked up the cellphone. "Sir should bring the files over to your office"she asked
"Yes,don't you already know your job by now" I replied coldly as I hung up. I've been nicknamed "Mr Crazy" by my staffs,I heard it's because I always put on a serious and also because no one has ever seen me smile as well.
I don't mind the name,it actually sounds fun....Well also because they were right and how else would I have instilled discipline in them?

It's 6pm in the evening. I'm heading home,determined to be more careful so I wouldn't be found on the news as a man killed by his wife,or that I died as a result of poisoning.
(I drive my car myself.I don't like being driven around by anyone,I prefer handling the steering wheel)
Just about getting into our estate,I saw a lady who has a dress similar to that of Seraphine from afar,she was covering her hair with a scarf,seemed like she was on sunglasses too. I could see she already stopped a taxi and hopped in.
As I took a turn into the lane,the taxi passed and I took a glimpse look at the lady in the taxi.
"Seraphine?" I said, she couldn't see me because my car was tinted and she probably didn't know the number plate of my car because she would have seen that from afar too.
"Where is she heading to?" I thought. I was so curious as the taxi passed in a flash.
I steered the wheel sideways, "I want to know where she's headed" I said as I tailed the car.
After about 20 minutes the taxi stopped,I guess we've gotten to the destination.
Why would she be headed to a garden that no one visits anymore?. The garden used to be the meeting point of secret lovers in the past but it was abandoned and restricted from the public when the elders got to know.
I got out of the car,scooched behind the flowers watching her keenly.She took off her scarf and sunglasses and sat on the bench.After about 5 minutes a familiar man walked up to her.
"I do know him"I mumbled silently trying to rack my brain for answers.
Yes I remember!,I met him at the party the other day,he's her childhood friend.
As soon as he got close to Seraphine,he hugged her as if he was hugging a lover he hadn't seen for a very long time.
It felt as if my heart was burning as I saw them both. But that's probably because I felt guilty for preventing her from seeing anyone. But would my heart be on fire for such reason ?
She let go of his embrace and he finally said "It's been a while,I've missed you". For some reason those words doesn't seem to be coming from someone presumed to be an ordinary friend.
I looked at Seraphine,her facial expressions were different from the ones I knew. She had this aura of serenity which I don't see when she's around me also she blushed controllably as she continued to look into his eyes as he spoke. I couldn't see her eyes clearly but they probably lit up as well.
His next statement took me off balance,"I love you"He said gently stroking her hair with his hand as he placed her head on his broad shoulder.
He continued "You haven't told me your reply yet,don't you feel the same way? He said adjusting himself as he stood up from the bench and scooched in front of her directly facing her as he held her hands.
She was about to reply when he placed his finger on her lips gesturing her to be quiet when he said "if only you weren't paired with that beast and I wasn't paired with that talkative. If only we were paired together....but don't worry I have a plan that would set us free once and for all"
I never knew I was trembling where I was,but the fact that I'm trembling is understandable because I presumed he wants me dead,why do I feel hurt and betrayed as well?
I'm not even in love with her... or am I?
That moment time stopped and everything went still,it was a moment of truth. Within me I knew I had feelings for her right from the time I saw her at the party. I kept looking at her secretly as I spoke with her parents. I tried to ignore the feeling by being mean to her.
But she kept being nice. Once I accidentally knocked a glass over and while picking up the pieces it injured me,She offered to help clean my bloody hands and I kept staring at her as she dressed the wound.
I imagined her leaving me for another man and I couldn't bear the thought.
Coming back to reality, "this must not happen" I said as I got up shamelessly from my hideout and walked towards them.
Seraphine froze as soon as she saw me. Keeping my voice stern I said "Oh well I hope killing isn't part of the plan" interrupting their discussion and facing the young man as soon as he stood up.
He doesn't look intimidated by me,which was a bit annoying. Instead he said "Maybe.....,Maybe not"and smirked
I took Seraphine's hand and said"Alright for starters,I don't appreciate people messing with my property".
"She's not your property"the young man said and I suddenly remembered she called him Clark the other day at the party
"Clark,I know you may be attracted to her because of her looks but she's my wife and that means she's mine" I paused then continued "And I'm Damien by the way not a beast".
I could see Clark clenching his fists and I could tell he was boiling inside. Seraphine sensed the tension and stood in between us and said to Clark;
"Calm down Clark ". She turned to me as well and said "Let's go home Damien"
She dragged me out of the garden and asked where the car was parked and I pointed towards its direction. She looked so angry and so was I as we drove home,completely ignoring each other.
