Perhaps Emertius wasn't given a chance to cast his strongest spells but he had already given it his best shot.
Even though the damage that his 'mountain shattering' dealt without the presence of mana wasn't even a fraction of what it could have been, it was still a Grade-4 spell known to shatter real mountains in the external world.
So, even a fraction of its power should've been enough to send him flying back.
