" Huhu, maybe because it's yours, It could grow to such an extent. What do you think about that? You contributed to my growth." (Kaede)
Her aura continued tor radiate about her body, forming a massive ember of lavender that coated her skin and the air around it. It looked ostensibly viscuous, swimming through the hair like fast tentacles that would entrap anything that came within proximity. She folded her arms with her rapier pointed at the ground, a light but vicious smile adorns her face.
Her gaze drills into the Demon King's, her attention lying solely in the future now. This was it, there was no longer anything else in the way. The natural way for things to go was for the heroes to defeat the Demon King, but she supposed the Demon King took up some anti hero countermeasures and turned the tables promptly. The Demon King, Hikari was simply too strong. She had a feeling it was as such, and that it would come down to this anyway, so she wasn't too surprised.
Her body felt lighter than ever before, was this in response to Hikari? Ahh... It's because her well was a clone of his, in other words it was some sort of resonance phenomenon. A Demon King vs Demon King type magical law that manifests in the form of enhanced abilities. Of course, it might also be that the well had caused her existence to be partially demon, the Demon King then has a skill that might enhance his subordinates' abilities passively.
This was the underlying mechanism that could make all the demonic heavenly kings so stronger, stronger than the average S grade. The enemy's skill or passive... To think this would be how she would go stronger in the final battle... Well, she wasn't picky. This well was now for hers to keep. If the enemy had a problem with it, she would want to fight them with it even more.
The match resumes from their little exchange, Hikari spits at the ground through his helmet, the sheen on his armour plates increase in brilliance as though they were glowing. His aura had a distinctive lighting property, causing the throne room to be less dim and dreary as it permeated the surrounding air. His aura swallowed half of the room in an instant as he stood from his throne.
... This must have been what the heroes really faced, the Demon King had returned to his throne to attack from afar after his nigh victory. He really was looking down on humans... With all her strength, Kaede thread through the air faster than a jet, faster than anything that was ever man made.
Refined technique, Last-pace of a star's throes. Reversal mass collapse. She applies her first skill to reduce air resistance to nothing, in fact she reverses it to properly herself forward. It is then amplified in magnitude, to the point that it was enough for her to escape the hold of gravity on her body. In this zero gravity environment, one step further is taken to further reduce gravity into the negatives.
Forming the opposite singularity, then utilising the opposite of a black hole's escape velocity, she brute forces her way into the cosmic limit. It was created, the white hole.
It was not quite infinite speed, and the law of magical girls takes cares of any violation of physical laws, so her strength cannot be amplified by light speed but will exhibit an impact just short of it. Well, she doubt such a thing would actually affect the final battle. If anything, it likely only brought the scales into an equal state. After all it was a glorified propulsion technique, once launched it could would only send her in 1 direction.
With one fell swoop, she swung her rapier and arrived behind the Demon King, her feet bent and smashed against the wall right behind the throne seat.
"...?!" (Hikari)
A crack form in his armour, splitting apart with the sharp release of a soft clapping impact, akin to paper being split.
"... What is... This wasn't... This wasn't... In... In..." (Hikari)
He held his gauntlet covered palm up to his helmet, as if masking his mouth. For a moment, his speech had doubled. 2 overlapping but distinct voices, it was too confusing for Kaede to pay attention too. Her mind was solely fixed on the future of humanity, all she could think about was how to kill the Demon King as fast as possible. Since it's the Demon King, it wouldn't be far fetched for the armour to begin regenerating on its own given enough time, so she had to attack as much as possible to offset the regeneration.
She leaped from the wall she landed on, her body vanishing and reappearing in front of Hikari. Another line of serration was left on Hikari's armour.
"Tch!!" (Hikari)
A noxious purple gas leaks through the armour's gaps that were created by Kaede's attacks, the deluge of deep purple fog subsume everything in Kaede's vision. The gas spreads to the corridor where the battered heroes were recovering while Karell guarded them.
"Karell!!!" (Kaede)
"Leave it to me!!" (Karell)
A faint whisper dove under her left ear.
"You should worry about yourself first." (Hikari)
With a back step boosted by Last pace, Kaede dodges the claw attack aimed at her head, however... She couldn't land properly.
"... My body is melting?!" (Kaede)
The gas had an anaesthetic effect as it digested its prey, likely the primary trait of some monster that was one of Hikari's subjects. Forming a vacuum coating over her body, she managed to stop the gas from continuously melting her body, and thanks to her will stat and the gas having more of a magical nature than a physical one, she was able to stop her body from melting any further.
She barely dodged the enemy's attack by anticipating it... Last pace was like a shot in the dark, she had to line up her own trajectory and attack in the right way to make the most use of it. Otherwise... Her comprehension speed was still that of an A grade's. Operating without this technique, the Demon King would completely crush her in reaction time and agility.
'... Can she only move in 1 direction? Then...' (Hikari)
Hidden behind the fog, a large crimson sphere forms around the throne room, phasing through the sharp square walls. It shrunk in an instant with Kaede at its center, the collision of the sphere' s boundary and Kaede resulted in an explosion. These were the most durable walls and floor that Kaede had come across, ever her last pace left not a single mark on it. Naturally this attack didn't even leave a speck of its existence behind as well.
Since Last pace was unidirectional, the simple fix to this was to lajnch an attack from every direction. A spherical spatial attack.
'Atlas's Authority over the spherical universe.' (Hikari)
The names of techniques were usually chanted in one's mind, rather than said aloud like skills, after all they offer even more information than a skill could. For skills, chanting aloud grands auto aiming for magic attacks and... Mostly because Kaede thought it was cool to finish fights by shouting the name of an attack. As mentioned before, it was the romance of a magic attack, a form of love held deeply by Kaori. As such, it was only natural for Kaede to follow suit.
It would be really lame if someone shouted their special move and lost, but there was no telling how fights could go sometimes. It was better to shout and scream as much as one wanted and give their all to their fight. To give one's all... Right, that must have been what Kaori had been doing all this time.
Even if she liked magical girls before The Great Disaster, it was still a life changing event regardless. Even if she managed to recover what little sense of normality was left after the disaster obliterated most of human society, too much would still have been lost. Everyone had taken it for granted, conveniently dismissing how Kaori had kept herself together despite her life falling apart. Most magical girls seemed to have some scar or trauma manifesting, Kaori was the strange one to have nothing.
Myuu was isolated and had constant paranoia and concern over the life of her remaining parent. Gerald and Paridia could never come to terms with the lies they failed to save at the facility that they escaped, they couldn't live properly without thinking about how to kill the progenitor. Barius' ambition for perfection was realised to an unhealthy extent, maintaining it was all she had now. Kenzi was the normal one for trying to run away back when they were kidnapped.
Kaori didn't have a choice, but if she had to have a new start on life, she might as well try to make that the best damn possible life. Taking her magical girl awakening in stride, factoring in her own positive outlook and aspirations of magical girls, this was her answer. To be the ideal magical girl, the saviour of saviours.
Right now, she was saving humanity. She was the representative of humanity. The red sphere attack first struck her vacuum meant to protect against the gas, giving her just enough time to add more layers of defence. It took an exorbitant amount of magic to use her second skill to freeze the energy that crashed into her barrier. Any slower and she might have been evaporated.
Nevermind, she shouldn't dwell too long gon her own thoughts. Utilising Last Pace and extending her void rapier, she slashed the entire space apart along with the explosion that she froze, keeping herself safe as the wall of gas splits apart. The center of the room was no longer concealed. With another quick swing, she sliced horizontally, sending most of the gas to crash and compress against the ceiling.
"Oi, you think you can play with your food?" (Kaede)
Utilising Last pace, she crash against the next red sphere prepared in secret. Pointing her rapier in front of her, she sliced through its paltry magic quantity and arrives at her destination. Hikari summons and swings a great sword horizontally. Since he could predict her movements, why could she predict his? The answer was that he let his conceit get to him. She lands above the throne, completely dodging the attack while launching one of her own.
With a quick thrust, she slices through diagonally through the throne with a downwards angle, aimed at taking his head. He managed to stand up in time, but the tip pierced through his feet. His arm strength carried his torso away, so she managed to aim and trap him by the foot, causing him to tumble over. Using Last Pace to leap from the wall, she spun her body and attempted to land on the Demon King, thrusting her rapier downwards with a killing blow.
When she was done, the Demon King was no longer under her. In fact he had dodged before she leaped. The great sword is swung from behind with a loud tremor of air, with another somersault Kaede put some distance between them while dodging the sword's wide berth. Every interval between the times she uses Last Pace is fatal now that Hikari has begun adapting to her, conversely Hikari is in danger whenever it was used.
A lethal back and forth takes place, Kaede began to use Last pace extensively. Only in brief periods of time she would reappear and Hikari would swing his weapon at her. At other times, she was able to leave a deep wound inside his torso. The two began to accumulate damage as the battle went on. Kaede being the weaker party, received far more damage. One of her ears was blown off along with large chunks of her limbs. Blood stained over most of her body as she wobbled into a standing position.
The Demon King was mostly spotless if not for an entire leg missing. His armour was full of shreds despite its continuous self repair. Her breathing became laboured but a smile remained on her face. Last pace did allow one to exceed their limit, but energy did not come from nowhere. Last pace was merely the removal of the physical barriers and natural limit of her body, she still had to use the equivalent amount of magical particles to propel herself past these torn down barriers.
It was merely the initial propulsion that required fuel, as there was no longer resistance of any kind acting on her trajectory. But it was still an exorbitant cost, naturally she used the appropriate amount of Magia Retainment to barely preserve her well. It was still being overworked, the magic was getting too active and began tearing her apart from the inside. Every now and then, her skin would split and blood would spill.
"You are in no state to fight. I can recover my lost limbs as much as I want, you have a limit." (Hikari)
"Hmpf, are you appealing for a surrender?" (Kaede)
