-``Should I refill? You want to help?'' - I caught the empty plate and grabbed my Dark Knight with a look. We walked silently through partying parties and clogs of fun and after the plate was full and handed to him and my new one was also full. ``Tell me!''
-``What?'' - His eyes flied from mine. His voice feeble and his lost arm that searched for an alibi, to end its looseness and justify its casual existence.
-``Is it the exams?''
-``No. It's not! You're such a frogette!''
-``What?'' - My laugh burst over the conversation of surrounding hungry men.
-``A frogette. The female from a frog, with that large mouth of yours. If curiosity could kill you would be long dead.''
-``We'll see about that'' - I delivered the plate and grabbed his hands before he could sit and acquire his indifference pose. ``Dance?''
-``No! Where have you ever seen me dance? Why would you think I can dance? Or any real man for that matter?'' - His face distorted, creating wrinkles from around his thick lips and along his large nose bridge.
-``Don't be square! There's intermittent light that makes you as good as any at dancing to anyone attempting to keep their eyes open. Besides, I will not ask you again! You can really hurt a woman saying no to her dance request. Seriously, I would never dance with you!'' - I worked hard on my socking face and it worked, he wasn't liking it but he battered his long lashes back at me. I had to test his mood and get him to have some fun.
We squeezed in between the moving blocks of people, animated by the music and when reaching a comfortable distance from everything we started moving ourselves face-to-face a meter apart. I knew that less is more when you don't know what you are doing. But somehow I wanted to shake a little, because the sound was involving and I wanted to release him too, maybe get a laugh out of him.
I noticed him nervous and systematic on his balancing feet.
-``You know? I was scared of having to dance today. But somehow, I am enjoying it.''
-``Is that why you chose me? so you would look better? Sure works!'' - He frowned a little.
-``No dummy. You were totally off and I didn't like it. You could have talked about it, or just talk at all. But since you passed, here we are.''
-``That is the worst excuse to get a brother to embarrass himself. You were trying to make me feel better making me do something I don't like?''
-``Pretty much. But whenever you choose to talk let me know.''
-``So it's blackmail now? First an ultimatum to get me on the dance floor and now this? You are devious, little frogette.''
-``uh hum!'' - I continued careless and smiling.. It was getting to him.
``This is not how you do it!'' - He grabbed my floating hand a meter away from him, surrounded me with my own arm and pulled so I would slide in a twist. He then pulled me back and with his hands half way to my waist started dancing like the tone actually caught to him. I was glad to see him change and tried to copy his movement which included too much hip strokes and balancing down my knees. I couldn't see him that well, I didn't fill him at all. He was careful enough not to collide with me and I appreciated that.
After some music had passed I was starting to get the rhythm right and to dance well when he decided to stop. - ``Aren't you tired at all? You would be great addition to our group!''
With this I realized I wasn't feeling my legs, a sharp pain stroke me near my stomach and I could hardly breath, but all and all I was enjoying myself so I wouldn't care if it weren't for him. - ``Pussy!''
-``Beast!'' - And he drew his tongue winning the dumbest contest.
-``You better then?'' - I asked honestly.
His eyes dropped, his body straightened and his smiled was left hoisted by an attempt to prevent his change to be noticed.
-``What? Again? Is it that serious? Do you want me to get so drunk that I won't remember anything tomorrow and this way at least you can talk?''
He smiled, a shy hurt curling of lips. ``I told you. It's nothing!'' - He was moving back to our place, where Akita had already two more friends and two girls joined in amid conversation.
I followed, determined to get an answer or relief until I reached them. ``They got you drinking blood again? Haven't they?'' - I was teasing in a serious though way.
-``No! That ain't it! I just don't always understand what we are doing and I don't always like it!''
-``It's the problem with wanting people with brains to do the dirty work. They soon enough find there is no sun in their sky.''
-``Poetical!'' - His face distorted to mock me and he bent unfolding his arm in a curtsey.
-``Wasn't it?'' - I answered proudly.
-``I don't want to talk about it, ok? And I couldn't if I wanted!''
-``That bad, hum?'' - My look dared him and infuriated he gave up negotiating peace. He walked faster and found a place on the sofa near my prey and the computer wizards. A bubbly girl with coiled dusky hair and honey skin was giggling endearingly towards Big baby and he was clearly enticed by it. All the while Elasticman was looking nauseated at the two of them. He joked earlier that he was two dimensional and needed only to stand on the side to become totally invisible. The Big baby laughed stating that he was the best wingman, who knew when to make him look smart and when to stand a side.
I sat on the other side of Akita, who looked warmly at my prey. In no time Spikes appeared together with our Bulldog and Retriever. As Spikes buttered in with the light of his eyes, the sound of his heart, his soul mate as he repeatedly called her, the other followed their noses to the food table, fooling around with a mouth full and all the tails they could spot.
The moon laid for the sun to step on. And though I was mostly in-breathing the whole they made, the big crowd that circled us. How did we get to find so many hearts, that shared so little and yet for so long? I enjoyed getting to know everybody a little more. Watching them have fun and interact was my kind of party. Learning about them silently and bemused at the diversity of details that could amuse me and endear them into my heart.
As I walked back home, to vent after one full glass of champagne, giving me time to review every second of this marvelous full night. I had two friends and through them four more and I even got to meet three more today.
Weren't for the ``daymare'' I could predict, my life couldn't get any better! Though if I was retired I could do as I willed and have the money and age discount for the most preposterous assignments.
