Chapter 8 - Chapter Five

He fiddled with his finger, slightly tapping on the mahogany handle of his chair. As if on queue, he felt the burning sensation again, growing worse by the second. It was the time of the year for him to drink. He needed to feed but it was never enough to keep him to a minimum. Indeed, he needed the blood. Even if it was just a tiny drop, it would do lots for him. How he regretted ever drinking the elixir of life!

He stared at nothing in particular, silently praying for it to subside but it was in vain; it grew even worse. He scratched his bearded chin and marvelled at how quickly it had grown. He pressed his fingers on his garment and squeezed, hoping it would elude the pain but he met the reverse.

"My lord, we have encountered more fugitives and one of them has news for you," a voice broke into his thoughts. He had been so caught up in his thinking that he had failed to notice two figures in front of him.

Lifting his head up, he saw a familiar face which he knew too well, Commander Gareth.  His thick stubble raided his face capped by a dirty blonde hair. He was in full armour.

His gaze swept over Gareth and landed on the petite figure who was gagged and bounded, kneeling on the floor. From the looks of it, she could not be more than twenty years. Her peculiar strawberry blonde hair flowed down her shoulders in an elegant way. When she looked up, he noticed she had emerald eyes that contrasted her strawberry blondehair.

"Go ahead," he said to no in particular.

"Speak up!" Commander Gareth's voice was hoarse as though he had lumps in his throat.

Still, the girl refused to move, let alone speak up. She acted as though she was not in the room. Commander Gareth pushed her to the floor, his fingers dug into her neck and she writhed in pain.

"F.. Fine. I'll speak," she yelled and he loosened his grip on her a little. She raised her head, her eyes meeting Calypso's. "You don't really think you are going to survive his, are you?" Her voice was firm.

Calypso was taken aback by her audacity despite her petite frame. Didn't she realise that he was at his mercy? Just a flick of a hand could send her to whatever afterlife she believed in.

"Elaborate, please?" Calypso said, his hand resting on his chin.

"Rumors have it that you're dying. You're never going to find your hair," she said with a faint smirk.

Calypso sighed. Was that the reason Commander Gareth summoned him? He had lost count of the people who had said those to him and he had also lost count of those he hung. This lady should better be careful with her words.

"Nonsense!" Shouted Gareth. "Tell him what you really know."

"Okay... Okay," she said within breaths, "He brought me here because..."

"Speak up now!"

She sighed and coughed, "I know where she is. Your heir, I mean."

"So, it's a she?" Calypso spoke for the second time in this meeting.

"But you'll never find her. She has something of yours that would make her undetectable." This lady really had guts.

Calypso's hand unconsciously moved to his neck. The necklace. Cyrena must have stolen it years ago and given it to her child. Their child.

He rose up from his chair and descended his little staircase until he was just a foot from her. His gaze fixed on the emerald eyes she possessed.

"You do know who I am, right?" Calypso's gaze never leaving hers like an hypnosis, "And what I am capable of?"

She nodded as fear was beginning to creep inside her.

"You see, I'm very unpredictable. Not your average Dark Lord," he continued. Something in those emerald eyes made him pause for a while, "But I will spare you on one condition."

"Take your bloody conditions to yourself!" She yelled into his face and was whacked in the head by Commander Gareth.

"You will listen to me," Calypso thundered as he took a sharp breath, "I have an assignment for you."

The burning sensation came back again.

A/N:

How was the chapter?

This book is based on two characters: Raina and Lord Calypso. I actually enjoy writing on Calypso more than Raina tho. Let's decide:

Team Raina or Team Calypso?
