Zack gasped as Szedra effortlessly passed her hand through the invisible barrier that Tess had been pressing against. Curiosity piqued, he attempted the same, only to have his hand pass through the air without encountering any obstruction. Tess's heart sank, her stomach twisting with unease.
Shaking his head in realization, Zack understood that Tess had tricked him. It must have been payback for what he and Lanse had done earlier, or perhaps for the slap. But wait, wasn't there a sound when Tess punched the barrier? Confusion etched his face as he scratched his head, trying to make sense of it all.
Tess couldn't find words to explain what was happening. Feeling the weight of their accusing gazes, she cast her eyes downward, staring at the ground. Only her toes remained pressed against the barrier, as the front part of her boots had passed through it.
