Zino was growing increasingly frustrated with the heat, particularly concerned about her hair drying out and becoming frizzy.
"Zino, why don't you go ahead since you're faster," Tess suggested, prompting Zino to lift her head and walk with more determination. "I bet you'll be back in about two minutes or even less."
Zino's dark brown eyes widened as she asked, "Alone?"
"Negative. No one goes alone," Lanse interjected, leading the way without looking back.
Tess refused to glance at Lanse, seeing through his seemingly caring attitude. She knew his act would eventually crumble, and she relished the thought of exposing it.
"You!" Zack suddenly yelled, striding closer to Tess.
Great, what now? Tess's annoyance manifested as a twitch on the left side of her lip before she turned to face him.
Pointing a finger at her, Zack questioned with confusion, "How are you always wearing those damn turtlenecks? Aren't you hot?"
