Tess dropped her fork and stood above Lanse two stools away.
"How am I being selfish?" she glared into his eyes. "I never asked to be like this so why should I be the one to get discriminated against and suffer for it. If the others start believing I'm a Syb-victim--"
"Which you are—"
Tess slammed her fist on the table and screamed, "Dammit, Shut up!"
Lanse blinked and turned around on the stool to face the table. Unbeknown to him, he missed seeing her eyes that flashed black. The loud ringing in his ears meant the scum had temporarily deafened him… Again.
Her last words replayed in his head until he remembered where he had said them and in the same manner. It was five days ago in the infirmary when he first confronted her about being a Syb-victim. Never would he have thought of allowing her to live so long and worse speaking to him like that!
