The trees and fog stopped zipping by, and Tess's foreseeing vision froze on Lanse's black shirt. Finally, he stopped moving and she doubled her speed in his direction.
The ground got soggier and the stink from decaying plant life began to mix with a thin earthy smell. Soon, the dark trees with wild branches on her right got replaced with black swamp waters.
