Chapter 1 - A living legend.

A group of new adventurers, hunters, or however you want to call them, were in the dining hall of the main building area. It was quite large, and the food actually tasted good, most of the adventurers ate there. The group was composed of mainly newbies or low-ranked hunters, around 5 of them, quite a basic composition.

One of them started the topic of hunters, historical adventurers. People who hunted high tier dragons, demons and many other monsters. Many people who lived and died for mankind. Until the man known as "The Pyromaniac." was brought up. It wasn't really his name, but no one knew what name he carried, only his title.

"I heard of him! People say he doesn't use magic, he only carries a flamethrower to kill monsters." One of the females of the group said, she seemed excited, probably because she liked stories. The blonde girl looked like she was the healer of the group, with green eyes and enhancement gloves equiped.

"Not only that, apparently he never failed once, not even on his first attempts, nor did he get badly injured." A man that looked like a scholar, with a robe, carrying a book and with glasses. He had pointy ears and black hair, probably an elf.

"I heard he never had a group either! I can only wonder if he would accept to teach me one day!" An excited guy said, he was quite small, around 1.60, but he had an actually fit body, with bandages around his hand, probably a melee fighter, or a combat mage.

"He sounds strong! I bet I could win against him in a arm wrestling match! I heard he never showed his face either, I think he doesn't even have a name!" A big man, carrying a shield, with muscular arms and a grown, brown beard, said out loud, he was probably the tank of the group, he was quite big actually.

"A living legend? He carries a flamethrower and kills all monsters? Sounds like bullshit to me. Probably some story to make newbies hopeful." A man, wearing all black with a long coat, he seemed like and edgelord. He carried a scythe, and had a slim body, he was probably a rogue or some type of stealth class. "I mean, who the fuck uses a flamethrower against all sorts of monster and win? He entered without a name or face? It's absolutely a fucking lie, someone like him doesn't exist."

As soon as someone was going to answer him a big figure appeared behind him. Around 1.95 meters tall, he wore some kind of isolant suit, like a hazmat, but made for fire. It was yellow and orange, and he wore a gas mask, with full black lens, that held the suit's hood. He carried a big flamethrower, connected to two cans on his back.

No word said, he walked past him, entering the hall. Murmurs soon started, but he paid no attention, it was quite common actually. The rest of the group looked at the rogue, with a convinced stare at him, and actually a bit mad, scared "The Pyromaniac." may have listened.

The rogue looked back at them, a bit scared by how big the man actually looked. "I mean... Legends... Hm... Legends die, he's still alive! That what I meant!" The man that normally was cold and indiferent, felt a bit embarrassed, enough to make him try to correct himself. The healer laughed at him a bit, making him blush even more, and soon the scared eyes, started to laugh at the edgelord.

The man who carried the flamethrower only walked around the hall, and turned to other direction, going to the meeting rooms. He soon found himself, with a girl carrying papers with notes and some documents. She wore a suit, with her black hair tied up and glasses. "You are already here, K?" She said as she turned to the noise of the door opening.

"Yes, I'm here, Anna." K said as he was standing up, looking at her. "You never call me first. What's the emergence?" He normally chose his own missions, to be called upon to do something specific was not common to happen. And emergences were normally atributed to specific teams.

"Most of our emergence teams are on missions, and you are one of our oldest assets still working. A girl by the name of Emile was sent with her team, she is the daughter of one of the richest knight families among all the hunters." Anna said as she put her papers on the table, with documents about the mission and files on the people who accompanied her. "And the rest of the group?"

"Some escaped, others didn't have quite the luck. She's the only one missing, the others either ran away or died." K came closer and looked the papers, quickly reading some details, seeing if he deemed something important. "It was her first mission. And she is quite young to start now. I started 4 years older. And I didn't get a Alpha to start with. Her family was imprudent for trying this." K said, looking back at Anna, she tried to hide some details from him, but she knew he wouldn't be fooled.

The fierce and strict posture she had soon disappeared, making her remove her glasses and sit down. "You never let me hide things, just telling I shouldn't be telling you this. She has some kind of really strong ability or whatever, so she trained a lot with her family of knights, to use her magic and fight. That made her enter soon, and they used their influence to make her go on a level higher than normal newcomers... She had no experience, and dhe was supposed to attack the monster head on, and she failed, of course." Anna said making massage on her eyebrows, looking down. "What a headache... They called you in to help."

K looked at her, still standing up, leaning a bit the head, with his back straight up. "Why they didn't call the emergence groups? I'm not qualified for rescue, or human comunication." Anna opened her eyes, looking at him, still slightly massaging her eyebrows. "I really can't hideeee..." She prolonged the word, as if she was tired of trying, throwing her head back. "I should already know that. The family wants you to train her and stay in her group."

"I'm not a teacher, nor a master. I don't like to work with people." K said, same cold voice tone as ever. "I know, I know... I tried to explain it, but I don't have any authority, and you probably can't change it. They took a liking into your historic and missions..." Anna said, putting her head back up.

K stood in silence for sometime, until he finally spoke again. "Is the transmat ready to go?" Anna seemed surprised, getting up and putting her glasses back on her face and going back to try being formal. "Yes, just go for the crystal and I will send you in."

K went behind her, and touched a crystal that was in a pedestal. Anna looked at him, and said "Take care, K. I worry about you every time you go in." K looked back at her, standing tall. "I know. You are always the one to send me in. I'll bring the girl."

As soon as he finished, the dizziness he always felt came in, and he teleported, as Anna looked at him. Soon, what was ahead of him was a destroyed place, probably a small city. Whatever was here, really wrecked everything. "They didn't even send a report about the monster." K thought to himself and started to walk, getting a device from a external pocket, that, as soon as he typed an input, started to track down mana residues and living humans.

Anna sat down, lying her head on her arms above. the table, putting her glasses on the side. "I hope he gets back... It's the last time I send him in the transmat... I feel tired..." She soon started to sleep on the table. Her heart was troubled, knowing she would be assigned to another adventurer, and worried how he would be with new people. Anna knew how bad he was while interacting with people.
