I walked out of the shower with my towel wrapped around my waist as I approached the wardrobe in order to select the perfect dress for the weekend, and picking out my bag of which I unzipped the zipper, I glanced over the few T-shirts I had. I reached out to the golden coloured T-shirt alongside a pair of black trousers which matched perfectly well with my black Jordan sneakers. I steadied towards the mirror and gave myself a quick look before shoving a hair comb through my dark colored hair which was poorly groomed. I sat at the edge of the bed tying my shoe laces of which I wore a golden wrist watch there after. Opening the door with my black coloured bag behind my back, I gave the room a quick scan to ensure everything was in order before leaving. Eventually, everything was in place except for the cup of coffee I made for Mrs. Karrie which was still in the bathroom at the edge of the lavatory, I grimaced with my eyes closed in realization to that. I stepped out of the room for a moment and fortunately, before I went back to take care of it, I saw two men walk towards me rolling a cart which contained cleaning equipments, they had a dark, gloomy and upset look on their faces and we're deeply troubled by something I had no clue of.
"Room service, if you don't mind" said one of the men with a deep voice in his ash hotel overall uniform holding a disinfectant with his right hand. He had a name tag on his left chest pocket which read "Barry", and by the left side of his neck was the tattoo of a viper which had it's fang shown as though it was about to strike. He was approximately 5 feet tall. The other guy held onto a glove of which he wore on his left hand grabbing a hold of the cart, he had a jet black hair and was shorter than his partner, probably 4 feets tall.
"I don't" I responded in permit for them to do their job as I turned back only to watch them close the door in front of me.
Walking towards the straight aile, I braced up facing downwards rubbing my palms against each other sighing before I stepped down the stair cases. On reaching the final step close to the reception, I saw a red stain of blood on the tiled floor beside. My steps shortned at the sight of blood as I raised my head up a bit and noticed how tensed the whole place was. Beside the police tape were two men, one faced backwards and the other was the sheriff. The man whom I could only see but behind his physical structure sniffed in the more saying to the sheriff that although he hadn't been fair to his daughter, he loved her so much, but he was after vengeance upon the very hands that killed his daughter. I payed less attention and tried minding my business heading out of the hotel.
Everyone increased in their steps having a pale look on their faces. I turned towards the transparent glass door and right after it was an ambulance and several police cars. A stretcher was rolled behind it having a patient lying down helplessly having what looked like a white contour sheet over her torso. I stepped further to the scene in order to know who she was. Holding onto the handle of my bag tightly as I approached the ambulance the more exiting the reception. I stood outside the door of the hotel which was now surrounded with some workers especially the hotel employees with few cops, and the hotel manager who looked confused as he walked to and fro the scene holding his cell phone in his right hand of which he placed on his right ear. Some sobbed and others, mostly ladies, burst out in tears leaning on the shoulders of the men who were trying to take everything in.
Not too distant from the stretcher, I witnessed one of the men, who probably was in his early forties, stand on the large space behind the ambulance wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and black trousers giving aid to the other man, who wore the same thing, at front carrying the body along with them inside the vehicle.
I winced in pain placing my left hand on my cardiac region shortly before I received the shock of my life in recognition of the lady as her head tilted on the stretcher towards my direction. My eyes were wide opened confused to the fact that the weird lady who escaped my grip dashing away in fear and refused answering my question had died. The urge of me asking what led to her death was sudden, but I couldn't inflict more pain or evoke memories to all those who stood there watching her corpse head to the morgue in an ambulance.
I turned my face down in excruciation making my way to the cafe and the only thing that played in my mind was our previous conversation. There was something about her that made me feel uncertain, though she looked insecure and terrified, yet I couldn't depict what made her run away in such fright as though she saw a ghost or the fangs of a vampire protrude out of my mouth.
"It's all my fault" I deuced in uncertainty to what had happened, finally out of the scenery. My hands were inside the pockets of my trousers and I felt something. I stopped grabbing a hold of if thinking it was a dollar bill only to bring it out of my pocket to see the paper Howard had given me two days ago. I sighed awkwardly relaxing myself, on looking at the paper, it had a writing which read.
"You have to get the necklace".
This was when I remembered what I forgot, the necklace, of which I had no clue to where it was. I hurried back to the hotel making my way up the stairs when I bumped into someone huge. I fell backwards landing on the floor and a huge hand gripped my arm raising me up until our eyes clashed. His whole clothing was black from his short sleeved shirt to the black trainers on his feet.
"You're coming with me" he said as I forced to make my way out of the palm of his hands.
"Let go of me" I uttered peacefully not to get involved in something far more complicated.
"I'm sorry, but I can't" he said in a manly way, but that wasn't enough for me.
"I'm only going to say this once and I promise, I won't repeat myself. Let go of my hand".
"I said I can't". He responded wearing a grave look on his face.
If he can be this sturbborn, I won't, I'll be repulsive". Thinking to myself.
I held him by the hand he held me with and stood still. His movement began to slow down rapidly until we meet to our final halt. I watched him struggle to move me but I stood still like a rock. Luckily for me, beside my left hand side was the door to the room.
"I need you to come with me" he continued looking so grumpy in his overall.
"I can't"
"Don't make me hurt you" he threatened.
"What makes you think you can hurt me" looking incredulous to his statement.
Grunting with his right hand still clenched on mine, he motioned his head forward towards mine hitting me so hard on the head to and I could hear a crack sound. Suddenly, the door to my room opened and the two men who had come for room service walked out of it.
"What happened to him" asked the guy with the tattoo on the left side of his neck.
"Just a bit concussed", responding to his question, "he needs help" I added walking into the room with the two men outside. I searched the entire room for the necklace but I couldn't find it. I turned over the drawers from the table, rolled over the neatly tucked bed sheets, checked the trash can and also the wardrobe, but I couldn't find it.
Foiled at my search, I walked out of the room in frustration with the two men still standing outside having a look of suspicion on their faces only to feel something hooked on the thread of my shirt. I turned right wards and was astonished to see the necklace's head attached to the thread of my T-shirt by the left hand and the other part in the left pocket of the guy with the the jet black hair. He turned and looked at his partner who had his head turned the other way round scratching the back of his neck. I took the necklace, but it seems like nothing precious in this life can be freed without a good fight. Barry threw the first punch of which I caught with my right hand and gave the other a nice headbutt as soon as he made a move, and I had to watch him pass out unconscious before I turned back to Barry and returned the punch he missed but this time, I ensured it was legit. I thought the fight might last longer than expected, but it seemed I was in good luck. Having the necklace was all that mattered to me and with no second thoughts, I walked off the hotel keeping the necklace in my left pocket.
Although I had gotten the necklace, I was uncertain about everything that had happened. Though I faced so many dreadful moments, today was new, things weren't this way before. Usually, all I had was horrifying dreams, yet I faced the wrath of the king of the abyss with Mrs. Karrie mysteriously showing up in my bathroom, and to top it all, the death of someone who didn't deserve to die the way she did, this was indeed painful and I never expected any of this to happen. The consequence of being way far from normal made me wish I was normal, I was tired of hurting people.
Looking at the time on my wrist watch, it was already noon and I had to go see Mrs. Karrie though we had met few hours ago, I always felt a strong connection between us, it was more like a mother and a son's connection that can't be broken. But the day wouldn't be complete without seeing my favorite human person who serves one of the best latte in town. I increased my steps walking faster in order to beat the time, but the blazing sun had my mind feel it was impossible to be in two places on time.
I soon arrived close to the coffee shop still having the normal tough guy look on my face. I felt there was something about my face that gave people the creep each time they see me, and this I disliked with the whole of my soul. I halted on arrival at the door post of the shop looking at the turquoise hair girl who's attention was diverted by the customers. She looked the same, nothing much had changed about that, and my stupid sense told me to walk of because she wasn't in the mood at this hour. I held onto the door handle trying to decide if I should walk in or not. I raised my head up looking at her one more time as she walked right wards soon getting out of sight. Damn! I had never craved for attention this much in my life, I guess it must've been triggered by the dead hotel maid, my goodness, her death was actually painful. The image of her blood spill on the floor had my mind roam in discomfort, but there was nothing I could do about it now that she's gone.
Taking a deep breath, I let go of the door handle heading for the road leading to Mrs. Karrie's. This time, both of my hands were on handle of the bag as I crossed the corner of the road parallel to the coffee shop when I felt a hand hold on to my elbow, by the voice I knew it was a lady and she sounded a bit desperate.
"You have what's mine, and I need it back".
I turned back having only to embrace another shocking experience, how could she be that fast?
"I'm sorry, but I doubt I have anything that's yours"
"It's with you and I know it. It lead me here"
"I don't know what you're talking about" I protested.
She raised her right hand upwards nice and slow, at first I thought she she wanted a handshake which was totally weird, but her hand raised above my chest and soon enough, I saw the necklace levitate glowing with a sharp blue texture beside me approaching closer to the tip of her finger before she grabbed a hold of it.
"Wait how could you be able to possess such abilities?" I asked befuddled at the unusual occurrence also in wait for a positive response. But it seemed turquoise hair girl wasn't different from everyone else, she stood in admiration of the necklace for about five seconds before asking
"Who gave this to you?"
"That doesn't answer my question" I retorted
"Only the chosen can posses such a valuable possession"
"How did you know about the chosen?" I asked before getting a response which was far from what I asked.
"Listen, you're not different from us, unless you've been possessed by one of the guardians. There's more of us, but we are all in danger and the union of us all could make things more complicated than it already is".
