Chapter 1 - I

Standing in a forest clearing, a man with black hair stood forward to the wind. The purple-green grass moved as the wind waved across it, but the man's hair and clothes stood still as if the wind was not there.

He looked upwards at the bluish sun, and took a step sideways as a burly man with deep red hair barreled past. The man spun and looked at the black-haired man.

"Weren't you the one who wanted this fight, Omega?" He asked, pulling off a silver bracer encrusted with red gems. The bracer started to liquify and change shape.

"It wouldn't be fun without letting you warm up first." Omega said, waving a hand. On his ring finger was a swirling black and white ring.

The man charged again, swinging the bracer as it solidified into the shape of an axe.

Omega ducked under the axe and jabbed the man in the gut.

"Brute force won't work against me." Omega said, standing up. "Honestly, Flare, you only think with your muscles."

Flare laughed, swinging again. "I don't need to think for me to beat you down."

Omega stepped to the side, letting the gem-encrusted axe stick into the ground. "You've yet to hit me."

"Who said that was my goal?"

An arrow shot out of the tall grass, straight towards Omega. He brought up his hand and stopped the arrow an inch away from his heart. Flipping the arrow, he looked to where the arrow came from.

He took a deep breath, then pushed energy into the arrow the moment he started throwing it. The arrow zipped out of his hand, and a small shout of surprise and pain came from the grass.

Flare charged, and Omega spun, but too late. The axe came down and lodged itself in his shoulder, breaking several bones.

Omega cursed, then jumped back. He pulled off his ring, and it started to change shape, the two colors separating.

Flare charged in again, swinging fast, but hardly making contact with Omega.

Another arrow shot out and stuck itself into Omega's calf, making him fall down on one knee. Flare swung down hard, coming closer and closer, then bounced.

Omega stood up, holding a sword. The black hilt and white blade were not connected, leaving the blade floating. The blade then shifted shape, and flew off to the hidden archer, pulling them out of the grass and between Omega and Flare.

The blade came back and returned to its shape as Omega reached down and pulled the arrow out and tossed it. Slightly glowing blood was halfway down the shaft.

Omega brought the sword up to his shoulder, and the blade changed shape again, and started to reknit his shoulder.

"Those tricks only work once, so you need to be ready to kill the person immediately. If you don't, you'll only have a bigger problem on your hands."

Flare shrugged, changing his axe back to a bracer. "I still got a good hit on ya."

Omega started walking off, waving for them to follow.

"You only got that hit because of Rho."

"And I thank him for that!" Flare shouted, clapping Rho on the shoulder.

Rho only rolled his eyes, changing his bow into a wooden quiver. "We'd already be dead if this wasn't practice."

"That's not the only reason we're here." Omega said, cresting a hill.

"Then why?" Rho asked, looking over the hill. There was a small wooden hut a few hundred yards away, clearly in disrepair.

"You'll see." Omega said, nodding to the hut.

He took a few steps back before jumping incredibly far, landing right next to the small building. Omega turned to see Rho and Flare close behind, but not landing as close.

They all gathered at the doorway, and Omega pulled it open. Inside, faint light came through holes in the roof and gaps of boarded up windows. Through the dim light they could see a somewhat orderly living room, and one could believe it was lived in if it wasn't for the light covering of dust over everything.

Omega's sword split into four spheres floating around the room's corners, then started glowing as he pushed energy into the hilt. The light revealed a floating black, inverted teardrop shape near the center of the room. It was pitch black and seemed like a spot where your eyes just stopped working.

The shape was slowly dripping a similar looking liquid, making a pool on the ground and dissolving the surrounding wood.

"What is that?" Rho asked, slowly approaching.

Omega stuck his arm in front of Rho. He pulled out a small box and pulled a small wire from one side. He looped it around the shape a few times, letting it sit on the ground. He flipped a small switch on the top of the box and the drips slowed to a stop, one drip floating in the air.

Omega clapped his hands, "Let's get to work on closing this Rend."
