"Drive, keep driving!!!" I yell at Betty. We were now driving through the grass and the part of the forest they warned us not to step into. At this point, I just wanted to get it over with. She drove like a freaking formula one racer, the ones who match the speed of light. I looked at her, eyes wide open, as she maneuvered the car smoothly. Even though her a lame leg, she still kept going, faster and faster with every heartbeat. Her expressionless face didn't betray anything about her. I held on to my seat beside her, as tight as I could. At this point, I felt the ground sink in beneath me. My legs were jelly, my wounds stinging. My body ached with every twist and turn the old woman made.
I felt like my fingernails would fall from my fingers. It was horrendous, how fast and focused she was driving through the rough road. She didn't even say anything, and there was barely a frown when she pressed the accelerator, making us all jump and hit the roof of the car. My father wouldn't be so happy seeing the state of the car after this. If he was still alive.
I realized the road she was driving was not a normal one. It wasn't in the forest now, but rather in the mountainy side of the town. It was getting harder to breathe as the ground elevated. It was sunny, the air was hot and humid. Jane and her father's screaming didn't help either. "Are we going to die?" she cried, her frantic screaming echoing the mountains. That was the only sound that could be heard, aside from the screeching of the car.
I realized what kind of a route we're headed. We didn't come through this way, they instructed us to avoid this route since it was dangerous and there were lots of "incidents" that happened on this path. I heard a lot of horror stories on the internet on this specific part of the road/forest, where some people driving through, didn't make it out.
Some speak of spiritual and paranormal disturbances, and some told stories of the government and its secret base, whatever it was, it was hard to believe that anyone would dare to come this path; My breathing matched my heartbeat, and then I felt both of them slowing down. My teeth chattered, sweat trickling down my forehead. The road itself was uncomfortable and dark, the light offing itself the farther up we went. Devoid of sight and breath, I kept mumbling the same words at her: "Keep driving, please keep driving!"
"I'm driving as fast as I can!" Betty yelled at me, trying to shush me.
I clenched my teeth, everything moving quicker than I had expected. I look at Janae now behind me at the car, looking at her father with a tense face and teary eyes "Papa I don't think we're going to make it" she cried and embraced her father. "Hold on, baby girl, we're going to be ok," he said, a chanting audible from the back.
SCREECH! SCHRAK! SCHREEEEE! The rusty sound kept getting louder as we went, and then a dull metal clang could be heard from below. I prayed it was not the wheels giving up on us.
"Hold on, the hospital's only a few moments away!" she screamed, her voice raspy, but neutral.
Screech!! the car skidded on the bumpy road, the atmosphere thick and trickled, and I could barely breathe.
It felt like my lungs were filling up with the moisture from the air. It was bizarrely humid today.
"Drive, drive drive!" I spoke, even though that was not what was running through my mind., The car hit something again, "woah, woah, what that fuck!" I cried and looked back at my mother. She looked fried and she looked at me through her painful eyes. She was trying to tell me something.
"Stay with me Mom" I whispered, the words hanging through the tense, air, foreboding.
