Again,
The Devil's Border Security Council is slicing through notice en masse. Self-portraits, complete with names and statuses, as well as arrest warrants are displayed on city noticeboards. Rewards in the form of gifts and promotions were also listed as a boost to people's interest in joining the arrest.
The thing is, whenever the Devil's Border Security Council releases a notice, there's always a negative stigma accompanying it. As of now, when the image of a young man was there, under the name Edgardh Vloct, and labelled a traitor, led many to call for a bad sentence and create speculation that was not true.
"Woah, gifts and promotions? I'm willing to hunt down this traitor for promotion!" exclaimed one man in the crowd.
Someone reread the command-worded request on the sheet, "For anyone who manages to catch him alive and dead ...," he pauses, thinks for a moment, then makes the brief question, "Is this young man so dangerous that he wants to live and die?"
"Of course. He's a traitor!" insisted another.
"Then let's use our free time to hunt down this traitor!"
Others hurriedly replied, "Yes!" almost in unison.
Gifts and promotions sound so tempting. It's like ants meet sugar, they quickly transport it. While it's unclear who they're going to hunt and what's going on actually, they don't care. Demons are still demons, but they shouldn't hunt their own people for small things like gifts and promotions.
.
.
.
Stand in a far corner in a black long coat, put on a hood, bow your face, and sigh heavy breaths. His eyes briefly glanced at the noticeboard. His demonic vision is too clear to see the content of the announcement which contains a picture of himself as a traitor.
He muttered, "Damn it! I'm a fugitive!"
He briefly banged his fist against the wall, but fate could not be changed. What the government says is justification for all citizens. Including if he's allowed to be hunted, that's what's going to happen to him.
Now the announcement has spread. The whole town clearly knows who he is. Although it is not the authorities he will meet, he will still be captured by civilians. vague... ah, it wasn't impossible before, but now it's getting harder.
His eyes welled up once more, making sure no one around saw his whereabouts.
Feeling safe, he backed up a few steps. Take a pedestal, then jump on top of the building. Land his legs without sound, step lightly, then run as fast as the wind. Jump around like a squirrel while going through the roof one by one. Move as wild as a cat, through deserted streets, narrow alleys, and invisible turns.
His fast motion made it to the east gate early. Stopped tens of meters from the city gate. Hide yourself in the corner while observing the situation.
The east gate is heavily guarded. Gate soldiers patrol every time. Their demon eyes everywhere with great visibility. No one can escape their watch, including fugitives like him. Of the four gates he has observed, the east gate has the most stringent and stable guard. The north and west gates have average security, however it will still be difficult to escape through there. The only chance is the south gate.
He spent his remaining time heading for the south gate. Stay in an old-fashioned bakery that's almost abandoned. Think of the easiest way to get through the gate without having to physically confront the guards.
"Jump over the gate?" he murmured.
Then shake. It was impossible for him to jump over a gate that was almost sky-high.
"Teleportation?" he thought again.
In fact, teleportation is not a field he's capable of.
"Undercover?" he squealed. Flick your finger with a small smile.
He can go undercover. Although his physical features are not easy to hide, there is at least a chance that he can disguise himself as the right character. Then disguised as what? That's the question he has to answer himself.
Think hard. However, the contents of his brain were unable to give him a satisfactory answer. Arriving as he faced a void, his feet tripped over the wood which left him almost stuck on top of a pile of wood belonging to the bakery.
Ah, the old-fashioned bakery used the traditional way to bake the bread. Using wood to heat the burn wait. Then he'll be a roving firewood salesman.
***
The rolling night felt very slow. But the silence created by the opportunity that was not is counted.
At the south gate which always seems calm, has the usual activity. The guards were still there, chatting to each other while occasionally looking around. Patrols are held regularly, but the intensity is less than the other three gates. In a fairly peaceful area, there is almost never a crime
stop by at the south gate. Therefore, the guarding is done accordingly.
But today a suspicious man is walking towards them. Despite its rough appearance, with a shabby shirt, a pile of wood on the back, and a strange way of walking, it remains a question when the hood hides its face.
"Stop!" the guard commands in a sharp voice.
The guards came to him. Reach out, intend to block him. "Take off your hood and show me your ID!" he said firmly.
The timber salesman stopped his move.
They asked for the identity of a traveling timber salesman? Most rough workers don't carry their identities. But instead of saying the same thing, the woodmonger just shut up. Choosing to duck, draw the top end of the hood to cover her face deeper.
The response upset and angered the guard. Then shout, "Hey... You hear me, no? Show me your identity!"
And the man in front of them is still silent.
"Damn you! Find out about the gatekeeper!"
Guards push themselves. Pull the hood off until the face is clearly displayed. Edgardh, it was the traitor in front of them. Reports of arrests surfaced recently, the guard remembering his face very clearly.
"The traitor!" squealed the guard.
Wanted to catch him, but Edgardh was able to skin. When more attacks were launched on him, he gave a raw bogem to one of them. It bounced to the point of shocking other guards away from them.
"Edgardh the traitor is here. Help me catch him!" shouted one of the guards.
His identity was discovered very quickly. Even Edgardh didn't anticipate it. He can fight some guards, but not if the number exceeds their combat capabilities. The only way is to escape.
Wood is thrown to the ground. His shabby shirt is removed, and the hood is worn again, featuring the figure of Edgardh Vloct the real government fugitive. He ignored an ultimatum from the guards to stay in place. Immediately take a step and run quickly. No matter the guards chased after him right behind him, no matter the gate bells were ringing to notify him of the emergency in order to catch him, he ran. Hide yourself if there's a chance, then save yourself as fast as he can.
Unfortunately the gatekeepers are not ordinary people. They are the army of choice assigned to manage the security of the edge of the city. His combat skills are above average, the chase is becoming more and more difficult.
Edgardh was pushed. Wherever he ran, the guard continued to follow him, wherever he hid, The guards can always find him. It's as if those people are always one step behind him and won't miss out at all. Edgardh's cornered. The more guards chasing him, the harder he moves. He can just run and keep running. Until finally he entered a row of houses that looked like a maze.
He's lost. In his error, he was still running, then mired. Fell to pieces in the unknown, much like the middle of nowhere in Edgardh's mind. Then the whitish blue light flashed before him. Established a portal that Edgardh recognized as a way of salvation. On the other hand, the voices of guards running and screaming, Edgardh took a quick step before being caught. Immediately rise up, then jump into the portal of light.
.
.
.
The light is no longer dazzling. Little by little Edgardh could open his eyes. Initially squint, then wide open.
The scenery in front of him is different from where it came from. The gloom he sees everyday
has turned bright blue over his head, with a procession of white cotton that goes hand in hand. The trees grow green and lush. Even one or two places there are flowers of different types and colors. The smell of wet soil spread to his sense of smell, evoking Edgardh's memory of another world he once knew.
This is the earth, the world in which human lives.
Edgardh took a deep breath, then breathed it long. He's free. Don't want to know if he's going to be chased by the guard all the way here or is he going to be let go? Obviously he's going to stay here after this.
Seeing irregular but highly artistic buildings and sky-high buildings at the end of the street, he became so intrigued that his smile just expanded.
"Human world!" he murmured. Then walk to it.
He looked around. A lot of strangely dressed people pass by the highway. In addition, many vehicles and shops sell a variety of anything. That's a novelty for him.
But across the street, Edgardh saw two men doing something. Edgardh accidentally eavesdrops on their conversation.
"Did you hear the notice at the meeting this afternoon? That fucking director is again withholding our paychecks because unclear reasons!". One of the two men began complaining about their condition, he kicked the can lying in the street so upset.
"Ah.. I'm also upset, but it's also our fault for surviving the first month of our salary. actually.. When I first applied to work here, I was already preparing myself if this company started going crazy―".
"Because of the information listed, it is clear that this is a Black Company, a small company. So, it's certain that working here won't be easy, but I don't think it's going to be this bad". The other one seemed to sigh tired.
"Well. What else do you want? Lately qualifications for large companies are getting tighter. There aren't many small companies left because people are increasingly racing for jobs". Their anger began to subside and replaced them with a face so tired.
The two walked close to the drinks machine, Edgardh was still standing not far from the two men, he was still scraping information from them which he found quite interesting.
"But you know what? The director doesn't care about the company anymore. Even when the company started losing money, he didn't even take any steps to cover those losses."
They buy what they like and sip it voraciously, then sigh as if it were a remedy from the burden of their troubles.
"I hope the Director can be replaced by a more suitable person. I honestly still need this company. And I don't think it's too bad for a small company. It's just the leader. like that".
"Ahaha, I know what you mean! But unfortunately the Director can not be replaced that easy". The other one looked as if there was no hope.
"Who knows, right? Could there be a miracle going on? Suddenly the Director brings his new successor to the company, then the company becomes more stable, and our salary will return to normal, or maybe increasingly?".
"Ahahaha...!! Keep dreaming! It's been working too long so it's driving you crazy!. Never be, let's go home, sleep is the only precious time for us right now". One of them laughed in response to his coworker's sentence.
"You're right, I need sleep. late night home in the morning without being paid to make my sanity even thinner". The tired faces smiled obliquely, and then they walked home to their respective areas of the house.
In the shadows, Edgardh stares at the two men with a mysterious smile, then he mumbles something.
"Your dream is... I'll grant it." He said he then left the previous place.
His new life, it's going to start here.
.
.
.
The next day, the two men who were chatting near the drinks machine were back on their entry schedule in the morning, supposedly two days yesterday was their weekend, but they had to overtime to pursue a target that covered the company's losses.
"Oh. You're in apparently? I thought you'd quit after a lot of babbling yesterday." His friend quipped upon his arrival.
'I'm just a little oversleep, I haven't been crazy enough to leave my salary hanging for almost half a year! But if I had earned my salary, maybe I'd be out?". He seemed weighing his decision.
"What if the company gets better after you leave? Maybe you brought to the company, pfft. Said his friend was warming up.
"Insolent you! Y-ya. If that happens, I'll stay until my contract runs out!". He replied clumsily.
"Hey you guys! Get together! The director came in this morning, I heard there's going to be an important announcement!". One of the other employees immediately alerted them.
The two men just stare at each other with flat faces, then exhale tired.
"This time what else important announcement? Is the Director finally retired, huh?".
"I hope this time it's not news about our salaries being suddenly cut... Just get the paycheck yet..". They stared at miris towards the meeting room.
With weight, they also walked to the room where usually held meetings for employees of the company. They entered the room and began to hear people busy whispering.
But this time it felt different, there were other facial features that appeared from employees who gathered in front of them, rather than tired and bored, they looked surprised and some smiled incontinently. And that's for sure it's an expression of the female employees there.
They turned their eyes, looking forward where there was something that was the cause of a new atmosphere for the employees here.
In front of there, there's a new face they don't recognize, and the guy's standing right next to their Director. Obviously a lot of people are curious about the new person's whereabouts.
To be clear, he has a different aura, plus his charming appearance with the suit he wears. The authority of a leader.
"Everyone, there are people I want to introduce. He is Kell Chaiden, my distant nephew. And from now on, Kell will be the new Director of this company".
The sentence from their Director shocked all the employees there, what a shocking news.
There are two people who look most shocked, they stare in disbelief at the figure in front there, then stare at each other with a shock face.
.
.
.
Edgardh followed one of the two men to his house, as soon as he saw the surroundings were safe, Edgardh went to the man he was following.
"Excuse me, sir?". Edgardh greeted the man.
"Hm? What's wrong? Can I help you?". The man turned and stared confusedly at Edgardh.
Tap!
"There's something I want to ask you." Edgardh touched the man's shoulder and stared directly into his eyes, he smiled small.
And furthermore, the man can not remember what happened after he met the young man, nor remember the figure who suddenly questioned him when he came home from work.
Edgardh scrapes information about the Director that he hears from the two men, after he learns the figure and place where the Director lives, Edgardh immediately sped to his target place.
"It doesn't seem like life here is so bad for me..". Edgardh pulled out his smirk, he began to devise some important plans inside his head.
"A-what.. My wish has just been granted, within a day?". The other stared in disbelief at his friend who yesterday listened to his ravings.
His speech was answered with a stiff nod from his friend, that day was the beginning of a major change for their company.
.
.
.
A few months passed, the day went on as usual in the human world. People are getting busy with their work.
"Hey, did you read the magazine yesterday? now the company is in a new spotlight in the business world!". There were the voices of the girls who were talking near the shopping area.
"Ah! That company, huh?! Yes I saw it! You know, their new director really caught the eye, didn't you?!". They sound so excited about telling you something.
"Soon I'll finish my studies, after which I'll try to apply for a job at that place! Could I be his private secretary?! Kyaa!!".
"You're this. Think carefully about your future, now there must have been many who applied to work at that company. It could be, your chances have been taken by someone else first..".
"It's over... Who can resist the charm of a Kell Chaiden?! He's a Director, handsome-faced, young, his future should not be asked, he's a successful businessman! She's definitely the dream of all women!".
"Ah.. I understand what you mean, however. he is the latest record-setting young entrepreneur to succeed in just a few months after his ascension as Director. What a feat. What a terrible businessman's talent".
"I wish I could be her bride in the future...". One of them looks to be starting to wishful thinking.
"Don't dream too far! It could be a prince you see in public... change be a demon when no one sees it...".
While the girls were telling each other stories, the person concerned with their topic was now busy in his own office.
The man in the expensive suit, now walks slowly out of his private room. The knock of his shoe sound is heard in the corridor, making anyone turn and greet him, he comes down to the floor
where employees are usually held meetings. That's where a lot of employees gather.
Kell Chaiden now stands before his subordinates, brings out his thin smiles, and looks at them sharply. The employees' bodies were instantly tense and silent.
"All right... Let's start again with a new job project, you'll do it... Right?". Kell grinned thinly.
"All right. Director..". Everyone answered in unison, with blank stares. and face without expression. They obeyed their new Director's orders.
No one knows how Kell Chaiden can lead the company and make it grow rapidly in such a short period of time. That's for sure. Only the whole company knows what's happened in that place, that's how it started to be known. Kell Chaiden, the Demon Director.
