Chapter 2 - A Vital Quest...

Leaving them to deal with the construction of the home, while Jonathan created some shelters using the [Crafting Function] to make some nails from the stones gathered by Ana and Beck.

Once he went through list of shelters shown by the system function, based on the extra materials saved within his inventory space, he could create some fairly large and spacious shelters.

The system had shelters that were designed to house everyone, regardless of size, which was helpful considering the current situation.

Jonathan chose some of the best shelters based on the design internally.

Unfortunately, none gave off some special attribute or characteristic, so he did not mind since everyone would not be housed here for long.

The moment he selected his first hut, the system collected the materials from Jonathan's storage space and before his eyes built the shelter within seconds.

Jonathan lost his breath for a couple seconds, unable to comprehend how everything just magically pieced together like Legos.

He got his crap together to look around the shelter that popped up before him.

The shelter from the exterior was shaped into a cone with the logs of wood deeply embedded into the ground.

Near the tip the wood was pieced together using some advance technique using both the Mortise and Tenon joint and the Through Dovetail.

Jonathan could figure out how those words or what they meant exactly came into his mind, but somehow, he knew they were techniques to piece wood together using these various joint methods.

"Master the shelters are amazing!" Ana spoke out aloud, with Beck backing her up who was more surprised with the materials appearing and constructing themselves together to create a shelter.

Jonathan loved the fact his subordinates spoke back and acted normal instead of robotic people without emotions.

Just seeing the emotion across Ana and Becks face was more than enough satisfaction and joy to keep his mind wandering off from the huge shock in environment and situation.

So, he kept himself busy with building enough shelters, so everyone had one to themselves and enough to spare for another five subordinates to have their own.

In total he made 10 shelters which could each house fourteen dwarves, eight humans, or 6 orcs by the systems measurements.

When Jonathan entered the first shelter he constructed, he saw the spacious interior covered in the hides of the beasts skinned, having been processed by the system.

The interior was naturally warm from the hides and rugs laid out, naturally working as a makeshift insulation within the shelter.

He laid out on the bed constructed from the feathers processed by the system and the beast hide to create mattress.

It was laid out on a slap of rock that came to his waist that rested on side of the interior of the tent.

Jonathan tested it out and thought it was fairly comfortable, considering he originally thought he would be sleeping on the ground.

When he left the shelter, and he went over towards the house being constructed by Saznol to see it had turned into a huge hall with massive archs.

From what Jonathan could make out, it seemed like the great Viking halls that were built to take in boats during the winter.

The support beams were currently being set in place with Haady and Dumbass closely helping Saznol with the materials, while Ray was left working with the makeshift smithy Saznol created.

When Jonathan inspected Ray, he saw Ray had received [Novice Blacksmith] title, which let him work within Saznols makeshift smithy without needing complete observation.

"Hey Saznol!"

"Ayy! Master what seems to be the problem?"

"Just wondering how long till the house will be made?"

"I can be done today Master, but I would rather ya wait…"

"Why is that?"

"…"

"Just fucking say it…"

"Master he doesn't have the balls to say it." Haady heartedly said, his infectious laugh pulling in Ray and Dumbass.

"Oi ya big green oaf, half ya see your ugly mug.

The lasses would die from the sight of ya."

"Both of you shut up and explain what the fuck is going on."

Jonathan said sharply, his tone had lost its calmness from earlier.

Haady and Saznol knew they had gone too far so they quickly shut up.

Dumbass spoke instead for the two and informed Jonathan about Saznols plan for the house.

He had designed out the house to fit enough room for everyone to have their own bedroom, as well as a kitchen area and some common area for everyone with enough space to expand.

However, as he planned everything out, he decided to build some parts like the smithy and a stable as part of the design of the house and it all pieced together into a nice artistic design.

After going through everything, Saznol realised it would take quite some time if he worked alone on the house even with Haady and the others help, it would take some time, so he decided to continue on with the design and take the blasting from Jonathan later.

When Dumbass finished updating Jonathan, he was furious up until he saw the design of the completed house and was gobsmacked by the finished product.

He noticed the design was similar to medieval Scandinavian architecture he'd once researched after playing a video game from a popular series that took inspiration from the Vikings.

Jonathan loved the beautiful craftsman shift and design of those great halls that he planned out his retirement to build a custom home from its inspiration in the countryside.

Weirdly he was going through a sort of retirement now, so his plan kind of worked out.

He left Saznol to continue, informing them about the shelters and told them to pick one for themselves.

At first, they resisted, saying his 'gift' was too much, but Jonathan informed them it was not a gift, it was housing until Saznol finished.

They were to be later used to house others if the main house could not home them.

Jonathan left, leaving them to continue with their work, while he informed the girls about organising dinner using the meat and any veggies they had rummaged.

Once he gave them their instructions, he went to deal with the next quest the system had issued.

"… More fucking trees…"

Jonathan could not do much but curse under his breath as his took one of the available axes and went off to clear the trees surrounding the shelters area.

The moment his axe connected with the trunk of the tree his title activated [Perseverance] activated.

Every time he swung the axe back and forth, he could feel a portion of his energy being replenished and a part of his body being healed with a gentle warmth, however it was not too impactful too his body.

Once his mind was lost into the trance of the strenuous work, Jonathan lost track of his mind and body, only focusing on the sound of the axe connecting against the wood.

His mind only clicked back when the axe dropped out of his hands from over exhaustion, and he collapsed to his knees.

He finally saw the chaos he created from his stupid ability to lose track in his work as he saw the large clearing he had just created.

He quickly looked around to measure how much he cleared.

From his estimations he cleared roughly an acre…

Jonathan had to check with the system but before he opened completed his quest.

Plus, he had a couple questions for the system too.

"Hey system… tell me something… why didn't I get extra stuff when I finished the quest for skinning the beasts earlier?"

[Simple. You did not complete more than two or three more in each category for accepting the quest as complete.]

"So… If I held off and did it after I finished skinning the pile, I would have received greater rewards, right?"

[Yes…]

"… So, tell me what the hell I got now, please…"

Jonathan was laughing his dead off as he fell over, unable to move his exhausted body.

His eyes were close to shutting from the weight of his drowsiness.

However, he was not quick enough and passed out.

Jonathan awoke later to find himself covered in something warm and laying within some kind of shelter.

He was still sleepy, so he did not really focus that much on his surroundings still he noticed the familiarity from the interior.

It was the ones he created before, which immediately bright solace to his mind since he was terrified something would come out and kill him.

He tried to move but found he was not completely alright, and his body still needed to rest since his muscles were too tense and bulged.

Instead, he focused on the rewards from the system and decided to upgrade before he used any of his rewards.

The system informed him it would cost 1000 credits, which pissed Jonathan off, but he wasn't bothered enough to argue since he already knew he would lose against it, so he paid the system the 1000 credits.

Immediately he felt his body feeling a sudden warmth that burned his insides slightly, causing unbearable pain he wanted to scream out but could not exhale a single breath much less scream.

The pain soon went away with the light also leaving as his strength and movement returned.

He felt more energetic and active than before.

Much more than he had ever felt before.

He observed his arms and lower body to see his body had developed chiselled muscles and a great figure.

Jonathan immediately knew he experienced some kind of evolution with the system, so he had questions, but he couldn't bother with the system right now and focused on finding out what happened while he was out.

When he walked out the shelter, he noticed the wooden house Saznol was crafting had completed.

He froze, worried the time he was unconscious was far too long, so he wanted to find someone immediately.

As he turned to his right, he saw Haady standing beside a stegosaurus causally feeding it some branches.

"Master! You finally awoke!"

"Ahh yes Haady…

Whats that?"

"I found Tibby when I went out to find you Master, she was by your unconscious body."

Jonathan reached out and petted the dinosaur before him, shocked out of his mind that he was seeing a stegosaurus right now.

Even petting the dinosaur was a surreal moment, he even squealed like a child in delight, giggling like he experienced the joy of opening a gift.

Haady explained to Jonathan he passed out two days ago and came across him when they went out searching when he had not returned before dark.

When Jonathan asked about the others, he learnt they had gone off to prepare and new land for planting and creating a protective wall based on Saznols instructions.

Jonathan was glad the ginger dwarf had taken over otherwise he did not know what might have happened if they were guided.

Saznol had even taken the time out and made a seat and some reins for the stegosaurus.

Jonathan thought about rewarding him with something but thought to hold off for now since he did not just want to reward him alone because everyone had worked hard as well and deserved something together.

He asked Haady first if there was anything he wanted, but he vehemently objected saying the stegosaurus was enough, so he did not bother anymore and went to find the others along with Haady and his pet dino named Steggy.

While walking towards his clearing behind the shelters he made, he saw a fence crafted from logs buried deep into the ground with their tips sharpened, enough to skewer some unlucky dinosaur or beast that would try to scale over.

He also noticed parts of the land had been dug up and filled again, clearly his mess for taking in the soil and the others cleaning up after him.

Slightly red from embarrassment, Jonathan did not know how to explain the sporadic holes he dug around the open land, but when he asked Haadys opinion, he noticed Haady looked at him in a puzzled manner before completely ignoring the question and turning his attention back to Steggy.

Jonathan knew immediately to not bother them about his insecurity and went over to Saznol once he reached the portion of the fence they were currently working on.

"Ayy Master! You seem fine and dandy now, much better than the shitfaced look of ya self-earlier."

"Saznol behave yourself…" Dumbass said, angry how Saznol was casually addressing their master.

"… It's fine. I rather would like you guys to be yourselves around me and not trying to behave in a manner that is not you… if that makes sense.

Anyway… what happened… when I passed out."

Saznol, Ray and the others all chipped into the conversation explaining how they went out and found Steggy aside him and then they feed him food they hunted since Jonathan had all the meat in his storage, so Saznol thought of storage space for meat and other goods to be built into the house compound.

With Jonathan out, everyone focused on building the house and everyone received novice builder and blacksmith as a result of helping Saznol.

After finish most of the external work of the house, they started building the fence around the area Jonathan cleared and planned to use Steggy to help with cultivate the land for plants or to create pastures to domesticate beasts.

So far, they were dealing with the fence, so they had not reached the cultivating part just yet.

Jonathan thanked them all for their hard work as well as offering them any gift from the system if he could afford it within reason.

Everyone except Saznol did not ask for anything, instead they tried to wane Jonathan from offering them anything, but he continued to insist so they all agreed on some items for their little shelters and rooms.

Only Saznol requested something for his smithy instead.

Jonathan opened the system interface and summoned the Wheel of fortune, pressing the spin button seven times.

[Congratulations Host for landing on – Basic guide for infrastructure and planning]

[Congratulations Host for landing on – Blueprint for Barrack (Medieval Age) shelter

[Congratulations Host for landing on – Map access]

[Congratulations Host for landing on – Blueprint for Medieval Age carpentry]

It took a couple moments for him to take in everything he was just awarded by the system, especially the blueprint items.

The map was a significant thing, but it only displayed the areas he had explored or his subordinates.

The rest was pitch black, and void of any information.

After rushing back towards the house compound and where the wooden shelters he crafted were, Jonathan opened the system crafting function to see the requirements for the blueprints he was just awarded.

While the wooden shelter he had created for everyone took less than three logs of trees, the medieval smithy taking the least amount of tree logs, only requiring ten to craft a single smithy.

The barrack required fifteen and the carpentry required the most out of the lot, a minimum of thirty logs.

They all required stones or iron to fulfil their specific requirements to be built by the system function.

Jonathan checked to see what he had in his inventory to find he could only craft one, he went with the smithy immediately, since he had Saznol around, it was best to maximise his uses right now.

However, when he checked with Saznol, he refused saying he had created the smithy to his liking already within the compound and just required improved tools only.

Saznol suggested a carpentry to help with all the trees plus half the tools required for work to deal with wood would only appear from the carpentry building.

Jonathan agreed with his plan and left with Ray to find a suitable location for the carpentry building.

They both decided to build near the smithy built by Saznol, but since the blueprint didn't exactly match up with the design of the compound in which the smithy was built in, Jonathan built a bit too the side, creating a decent gap between the two in case of expansion.

Once he chose the location with system, he scanned through to see if there were an option similar to when he built the shelters, luckily there was which allowed him to use the available materials from beasts to craft tools and other items as substitutes.

Jonathan agreed and chose to click the building function, watching the materials suddenly appear and start to piece together within seconds, finishing the construction of a two-story towering building build with stones and laid with logs and hides and pelts all processed by the system.

When they examined the finished exterior, they saw the stones that were pieced together to create the wall of the building was filled together without any visible gaps.

Not only that the roof was laid out with handcrafted stoned that looked like an artist hand worked over each single roof tile meticulously crafting a masterpiece each time.

Jonathan was frozen cold by the visual shock and presentation of everything.

The dark exterior of the carpentry building was vastly different to the design and look of the house compound that he was quite glad he did not place it together since it would not have looked well together.

When he examined the inside, he noticed the tools were crafted from parts of the horns used as parts of the handles.

The furniture and working areas were given the same touch up by the systems creative modification.

He could not believe everything was a creation of the system, since it was a vast upgrade compared to the shelters, but he figured the system experienced an upgrade before he constructed this building so he thought it would have had something to do with it.

While they looked around, Ray spotted the small wooden statue by the work bench and a manual before it.

When Ray called out to Jonathan, showing him the small statue crafting from wood, he noticed the text on the manual read 'Guide to Carpentry'.

He got Ray to walk over and have a read, but the moment he touched it, a grey light shot out of the manual and enveloped Ray head to toe.

Jonathan quickly pulled up Ray's information to find he had the class Master Carpenter and his stats had increased slightly, especially his intelligence and dexterity had increased.

He tried to see if the same would happen to him, but when he touched the book, nothing happened, instead he could pick it up freely and read the information.

The system informed notified him the function of the idol and manual was the help his subordinates who would take on the class under his leadership.

He however would need to read the manuals to find the relevant information or purchase the guide from the store for the information to directly enter his mind and change his body.

After leaving Ray to take in all the new information from the class change as well as associating himself with the tools, he rushed outside so he could begin the summoning using the cards he had been awarded earlier.

[Urban Architect Le Vasseur]

Jonathan watched as 13 light pillars shined before his eyes, until several different types of humanoid people stood before him.

At once, they all shouted out and called Jonathan master before kneeling.

He urged them up, telling everyone that he did not like such formalities, for asking everyone for their names and occupations.

He could have bothered the system, but he preferred to ask everyone since he felt it was more human and normal than bothering a system that he still felt uneasy about.

To his surprise everyone had names this time round, as well as a class and some equipment instead of the clothes that barely covered him and the others, they were all dressed in processed leather or nice cloth.

The Elves were all archers, but they were proficient with nature and soil, so they were quickly left in charge of managing the planting and field to which they exclaimed positively before running off.

Jonathan could not figure out exactly what to do with the others, but he knew the fence needed to be finished so he sent the rest in the direction of Saznol.

He held back Le Vasseur, the only male human to question him further since he only addressed himself as an architect, but Jonathan felt there was far more to the guy for the system to designate him a named summoned.

"Maîtriser, I am a city planner from France, however I left early on with my parents and move around quite a lot.

My main pieces of work have been vital during the development of the Sahara region in 2035."

Jonathan questioned the system for more information this time around because he was not from his time, so he had never heard of his name.

However, the system informed him that Le Vassuer or better known as Charlie Bullion, was from a similar world he came from and not from his own world he was brought over from.

The Charlie before him had lived his life as a well-known architect in the development and planning of the Sahara Desert on his Earth.

His planning philosophy and ideals were studied for generations after his death and were utilised throughout mankind's planning of cities.

When Jonathan asked the system if he was the young Charlie or someone with all their knowledge and techniques intact, the system let him know Charlie was summoned in his youthful prime with the knowledge from his countless years of wisdom.

As much as the system was weird and shady, Jonathan had to give the system its dues.

He thanked the system before guiding Charlie to follow him.

Jonathan showed Charlie the layout and design of the house compound Saznol and built.

Charlie was amazed by the design and the use of logs to create such intricate design and shapes to form the architecture of the building.

Jonathan asked if he had seen the Scandinavian-Medieval style before to which Charlie explained they had dwarves and elves within their media and entertainment, as well as the style and culture of the Norse was widely known.

Just in his time, the use of synthetic wood and other biproducts was the foundation of the Sahara development, so to see authentic craft occur before him and to be given the opportunity to use the materials himself, he was getting emotional.

After giving him some time to adjust and calm himself down, Jonathan comforted Charlie, leaving him with the development of their home and village, as well as making Charlie his chief assistant for now.

While Charlie tried to process the news, Saznol rushed over with a cheerful smile across his face, as he came over and hugged Jonathan.

"Thank ya Master!

Thank ya Master!

The women and the help!

Thank ya!"

Saznol screamed, starling Charlie while Jonathan struggled to free himself from the excruciating bear hug, he was held in.

After being let go, he introduced his dwarven master smith with his city planner to discuss the layout of their city.

Charlie already at the information sent to his mind about their current capabilities and technology levels so he knew what direction to lead the city already in his mind with the systems help unconsciously.

While listening to the two and following them around till the system notified him of a new mission, Jonathan learnt Le Vasseur was known for his ability to incorporate various cultures into his architecture since it was vital during the Sahara development to incorporate something from the local regions.

Using the medieval style building that appear next to the house compound, the two styles may have been similar in period, but the design was not similar enough, they decided to make some changes to the carpentry building from the exterior.

Jonathan warned them about the system had only given him medieval style blueprints, so they knew about the extra work they were in for if they continued down the path of keeping the style throughout.

They urged him to check the system, since he needed to buy seeds for the farm, they made him check out the store for Norse medieval style blueprints.

After opening the system, he first opened the Farm store and opened the gift basket which contained a dozen types of seeds bagged each containing roughly 50 or more.

After checking the remaining balance, he had of credits was 200, he purchased the beginners kit for farming, which contained some hoes and other cultivating tools to help with farming.

He was left with 150 credits and opened up the store to find architecture styles, thankfully he found them pretty quickly and saw a variety ranging from different time periods to cultural styles.

Some had required to purchase them, while others costed a fortune in credits so disregarded those for now and focused on the ones available.

He could purchase Romanian, English or Scandinavian (Norse) each for 100 credits.

Jonathan chose the Scandinavian (Norse) since it was the style both Saznol and Charlie preferred so he went ahead with their plan and purchased it and used his remaining 50 credits to purchase [Encyclopedia of Medieval Age crafting basics].

He found the crafting function files had upgraded and now offered a range of items from the medieval era.
