Chereads / The praetor system / Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

-Wake up Prism it's time to go see Joshua again-

Sitting up slowly I stretch a little bit and get dressed Slowly. "I find myself asking why I walk all the way downstairs and across town when I could simply glide from my balcony.."

-That's not necessarily a bad question but may I point out that if you were to do that every day you wouldn't get to see Rebecca-

"oh right that's why I walk thank you for reminding me so clearly praetor." busts up laughing as I head down stairs and hop the last few using flight to glide over to the desk in a grand display. "Good morning Mrs Rebecca how are you doing today?"

Rebecca looks up at me with a slight eyebrow raise. "I'm doing quite well prism why on earth are you flying you silly man that was only ten feet from here to there"

Looking down I mutter "possibly trying to impress you apparently didn't have the desired effect..."

She laughs, a beautiful crystalline sound as she wipes a tear out from under her eye. "oh don't get me wrong it's impressive, just seemed a tad unnecessary to walk down the stairs just to fly ten feet to my desk"

"Well I suppose it may have been a tad unnecessary but it was all in the pursuit of seeing your smile." Chuckles softly and pats Rebecca's hand. "I'll see you soon Rebecca I'm going to be late for training."

Heading out the door I once again head towards the training center. For the next three days I spend my time training, eating, and showering.

Waking up the next morning after my last day of training I roll out of bed gently and sigh softly. "Well Praetor it was definitely worth the knowledge and the skill with my spear but man am I sore from yesterday. Joshua gives a new meaning to 'not holding your punches'

-Well at least now you can begin training to combine your magic with your weapon skills.-

"This is true I mean after this I might finally be able to join the adventures guild and actually start making a name for myself" Getting dress I hop off my balcony and fly across town to the ABM also known as the association of battle mages.

With a silent landing I slowly walk inside and look around as I feel the condensed energy of at least thirty battle mages just hanging out around the building.

-Yikes can you imagine if they all launched an attack at once? half the damn city would vaporize-

"Yeah you're not wrong there my friend this amount of energy is insane"

Upon reaching the front counter a large dogman looks me and up and down and leans on the counter "something I can help you with Runemancer?"

"Yeah actually I'm looking to have a few weapons classes so I can incorporate my spear more fluidly into my fighting style, also how did you know I'm a Runemancer?"

Chuckling he starts signing a few papers as he waves his hand and my interface randomly appears.

"I'm a battle mage with a subclass of telepath, there's very little I don't see though I'm not sure what the heck Is giving off such weird signals in your head."

"Is he talking about you Praetor? I didn't think anyone would be able to sense you."

-normal people can't but since he's a telepath the mental and magical energy within my system is quite obvious to him-

"Anyways it's of little consequence, my name is Henry and I'll be teaching you how to become one with your weapon and truly become a battle mage. Follow me please"

With that said Henry and I head to a large stadium type room filled with mannequins in different battle positions and set strategically around the room.

"Bring your spear out please prism" Henry lifts up his sword and points at the nearest mannequin. "I want you to pay close attention to the energy around me as I show you this then you'll be attempting to mimic me."

Henry jumps up and spins as I barely see the energy in the air gather around him, at the end of the spin it all collects on his sword and when he uses fireball the spell comes not from his hand, but from the tip of his sword.

"You see just like how you gather energy, or in your case your rune gives you the energy, then release the spell but this time using your weapon as an extension of yourself."

Nodding as I understood it better than I thought, jumping towards one of the mannequins I use fire control and swing my spear sideways to the left. Much to my literal surprise, a thin rope of fire extends about two inches from the spear and then dissipates.

"Good very good prism, you've grasped how to launch the spell but you have to maintain it until it's fully launched. if you lose focus before the right time you'll lose the spell and it will be nothing more than a regular strike."

"Spend a few hours practicing then go on home for the day we'll start some more advanced methods tomorrow"

With a deep breath I get into an attack stance and proceed to swing the spear left and right before jumping up and striking forward as a fist sized fireball launches from the spear and hits one of the mannequins.

-Good now continue until you don't fail at least ten times in a row.-

The next three hours are nothing but repetition, sometimes swinging to the side and launching a line of fire, sometimes launching fire balls from my forward strikes. After almost four hours of training I hit the tenth strike in a row and put away my spear.

"I'm getting better but we're not done yet this is basically just the beginning"

Heading home I take a longer shower than usual to work out the kinks in my muscles before once again collapsing naked on my bed and drifting off to sleep.
