Taylor, Lewis, or I hadn't spoken in a very long time. The car ride seemed to last an eternity, a long drowsy eternity. Like Hypnos was watching over me. I fell asleep at what was apparently only an hour into the drive, and didn't wake up until Lewis had hit a giant pothole in the road. We had left the school at around 2 PM, when I checked my phone it said it was 7 PM. Both Taylor and Lewis didn't even look phased from the long drive, which seemed impossible to me. It was starting dusk by the time we arrived at the school and I was still half asleep. Whenever Lewis said we had arrived I had never felt more relieved to get out of a car. I was finally able to stretch my legs after being cooped up in that small car for hours on end. Taylor told me to follow him, which I did. The guy still scared me a bit. Other than the weird architecture, I failed to notice one other thing. The giant crowd in the center of the plaza, in the middle stood a single older woman. I'd say she was in her late 30s. The statue behind them was hideous, even if I was asked what it was I don't think I would get a straight answer anyway. Once I noticed we were going closer to the crowd I stopped, I didn't feel like being in the middle of a bunch of people. Taylor noticed my lack of movement and walked back to me. "Caleb you got to keep moving." He said. "I know I know, its just..."I trailed my words. "What?" "I just don't like people all that much." I don't know what made me say that all of a sudden, hell I probably won't ever know. "Better get used to it kid. Soon you'll have to talk to them whether you like it or not, hell you will probably have to go tell the dead's families that they died." He responded almost angrily, which I honestly didn't expect. "Alright." I said sheepishly. As we continued to walk up to the group I could hear the older woman talking now, "As of today-" Taylor cut her off. "Ms. Marquess." Ms. Marquess looked at him like he was nothing but a bug for a split second, then she changed face and said, "Mr. Taylor! How are you? Ah, before you answer that, is that another student?" The way she emphasized another made me assume she was not very happy with Taylor showing up with me. "Yes it is, take care of this one. He may end up being of use." The way he said that scared me a bit as I can never tell what Taylor is thinking or what he means by what he says. "I'll try my hardest, now why don't you go get yourself a coffee from the teacher's lounge, you seem exhausted." Again she did not seem happy by his presence. "I may, but I have to go talk to the Headmaster first." "Oh alright, have fun with your little meeting." She seemed relieved by his walking away. "Now that he's leaving, what's your name kid." My face turned red, and I turned my face downward. "...Caleb." "What was that I can't hear you, you're speaking to quiet." At this point I feel like a 5 year old. "Caleb. It's Caleb." Apparently she could sense I didn't like that so she instantly changed the topic. "Well anywho, let me settle you guys into your dorms. Your introduction to the school and assessment tests are tomorrow at 7 sharp." She turned to leave, and when she noticed we were all standing there, she called out, "Come on now, or else you'll be sleeping outside." Nobody seemed to like the idea of doing that so we all quickly walked to catch up to her. We followed her for at least five minutes until we ended up in front of a very tall building, at least 7 stories high. It looked out of place compared to the other buildings, more like an old hotel or inn. Ms. Marquess told us to wait there and continued up the steps. She brought back with her two older, fragile looking men. Both men held two boxes, one labeled 'boys' and one labeled 'girls'. Ms. Marquess spoke, "All right, we will now draw lots for your roommates. The man to my right has lots for the first of the pairs. The man to my left has the lots for the second of the pairs along with the room number. Ladies first." She nodded at the man on the right, who pulled out a card. I could see a name on it but couldn't read it. He spoke in a raspy voice, "Kaya Suma." Then the man on the left did the same. He too spoke in a raspy voice, "Ashe Fletcher, room 213." The two walked up to the front, looking like completely polar opposites. Ms. Marquess spoke once again, this time to one of the girls, "Here's your room keys, if you have any issues with each other come tell me ok Kaya?" Kaya was slightly shorter than Ashe. She had olive skin, long black hair, and a roundish face. Ashe was the opposite, she had very slightly tanned skin, medium length brown hair, and an eyepatch over her right eye. They walked inside. The man on the right pulled another card, another name. The man on the left pulls out another card, "Alex Moran, room 217." Again Ms. Marquess gave the same speech about liking each other to them. Eventually all the girls were done, and so was I. I wanted to sit down as we had been standing there for over an hour and it had been pitch black outside for a while now. The only light we had came from inside the building we weren't allowed to go inside of yet. The men sat down both the boxes labeled 'girl'. Then the process repeated with the boys. They called out a boy who I had noticed in the crowd while I was waiting. He seemed just like me in the sense that he seemed to believe he probably shouldn't be there. "Griffith Laska, room 422." He was a taller guy, somewhere around six feet tall, skinny, a slight tan, and short brown hair. Then finally my name was called. The second my name had left the man on the right's lips, I bolted up the stairs. This seemed to surprise them, but I didn't care I was just happy to go inside. The man on the left said my roommates name, "Dakota Alonso, room 456." He slowly ascended the stairs, he looked to be your typical sport jock, tall and muscular. He had olive skin and long black, curly hair tied back in a ponytail. Ms. Marquess told us the 'If you don't like each other tell me' line and gave us our keys. I happily went inside immediately with Dakota following me slowly. He didn't seem to be in as much of a rush to go to bed as I was. I entered the building first, and scanned for an elevator. The inside of the building was a complete 180 of what the outside was. I felt like all of a sudden I entered a king's castle instead of my new dorm room. It seemed even bigger on the inside than what it looked on the outside. By the time I saw the elevator, I noticed Dakota was already there. I had gotten so caught up in examining my new surroundings, I completely forgot he existed for a moment. I walked over and got in. I was quiet, as usual, but he seemed like the type to be loud and energetic, so I was a bit surprised he didn't speak while in the elevator. We reached our room and again I was surprised. The room was quiet large, when you enter straight ahead is a small living room. To the left of the door is a small kitchen, fit with a a refrigerator, which was most of the kitchen, a microwave, and a small stove. There was also two doorways, one on each side of the room. Dakota went to the one on the right first and opened it. It didn't surprise me much, but they were our bedrooms. They were plain but nice looking. Both looked the same, a large bed, a dresser, a nightstand with a lamp, a desk in the far corner with a small reading lamp, and a door to a small bathroom. I was sincerely hoping there would be private bathrooms, because I really didn't want to share a bathroom with anyone. Dakota ended up taking the one on the right, which I didn't complain much about since that meant I was closer to the fridge, which was packed with drinks already. At this point it was nearly 10 PM, and I was exhausted, so I did what any other sane human would do, sleep.
