The soul was a fundamental part of a being. Once damaged, repairing it was virtually impossible. The best one could hope to do was use elixirs that were so rare that the total number in existence could be counted in two hands. But even if one managed to get their hands on it by some miracle, it wouldn't even be able to heal off all the damage. It would certainly help the soul reach some level of stability, but that was all.
This was part of the reason that made soul cultivators so rare. Cultivation in any shape or form always posed a threat to the cultivator, be it in forms of heart demons, energy deviations, or simply an overexertion of one's profound energy, the long hands of death that cultivators so desperately ran away from were always trailing behind them, just out of reach but never out of sight. However, this danger was even more exaggerated for soul cultivators.
