Chapter 36 - Power Assessment Test (2)

The Power-Ratings used a letter ranking system to measure and put full power capabilities in letter ranks. E, D, C, B, A, S, SS were the current categories someone's power could be put into. Lee Seng stared at the full potential ranking of SS and his jaw was wide open. Vanessa slowly scrolled past the full potential power ranking and glanced at charts and numbers. She seemed really interested in Lee Seng's PR chart and Lee Seng was too surprised to do anything, so the both of them skimmed through it.

"It did say... SS, right?" Lee Seng asked. Vanessa looked over at Lee Seng and noticed he was still shocked. She smiled and patted him. The pat took Lee Seng out of his shock and he looked at Vanessa who nodded.

"It's only a guess. The technology may have helped place people where they are, but we don't usually look at full potential only. There are other factors involved. I told you your power is probably placed around a B ranking, right? Well, skimming through the numbers and graphs, they can differ from what the system decides as a ranking system." Vanessa explained.

"So, I could not be an SS rank?"

"Your full potential can be SS with the right training and experience. Otherwise, you'll comfortably sit around Mid to high-tier B rank." Vanessa scrolled through the data and landed on some more charts. She tapped on her watch and a single chart popped up. The chart displayed classification probability. It seemed to heavily lean towards Fighter and Glass.

"Huh, I guess I was right. Fighter and Glass." Lee Seng said. Vanessa pointed at the other points of the graph. Tank and Observer weren't as high as Fighter and Glass, but they were high.

"You're a Specialist, right?" Vanessa asked. Lee Seng nodded. "If that's the case then there should be two high points and you're capability in these other classes shouldn't be too high. Here, let me pull up an example." Vanessa quickly swiped the air and a new screen showed up. She quickly navigated through and pulled another chart up.

"This is a Specialist chart. Tell me the difference between this one and yours." Vanessa pulled the other chart up and put the two side by side. Lee Seng looked at the other chart and noticed this Specialist was skilled in Observer and Glass. The other potential classes didn't even register at all while his other potential classes as a Specialist registered on a mid-level scale of C.

"Oh, I see. This Specialist is highly skilled in only Observer and Glass. The other classes never registered. My chart registers on a high level in Fighter and Glass while all the other classes actually registered around the mid-level scale of... C." Lee Seng observed. Vanessa nodded and pointed at the example.

"Studies indicate that Specialists go through some sort of second awakening that allows them to easily move into another category, so yours is a surprise as you're potentially capable of going into all of them." Vanessa's watch beeped and she quickly swiped the screen away and glanced at her watch. "Ah, we should head back. Icarus says the other students are about to finish up. We need to quickly finish the second part of your Power Assessment test, Chang."

The two made their way back to the gym and Icarus was glancing at the bleachers when the two of them walked in.

"Alright, most of you are finished. You may rest before the next test. We still have one more student who needs to quickly finish his test." Icarus said. The students agreed loudly as Icarus' eyes settled on Lee Seng. "Chang, I hope you don't mind everyone watching you." Lee Seng and Vanessa stood close to Icarus who turned around to motion at the dummies.

"The Power Assessment test is to register your current skills onto the system that's hooked up to the dummies. As we're pressed for time and you've arrived late, I will only allow you a single minute to strike the dummy as best as you can." Icarus said. Lee Seng looked at Icarus confused.

"Only one minute, sir?" Lee Seng asked. Icarus turned and nodded.

"Due to the unruly nature of the Academy, I must abide by the rules. If I allow you the full fifteen minutes, we will surely be behind schedule and I cannot let that happen."

Lee Seng nodded slowly. His tail slightly curled around his stomach again and he felt himself trying to pull his tail away out of nervousness. He gulped and stepped in front of the teachers.

"Do I get a weapon?" Lee Seng asked.

"A weapon?" Vanessa repeated. Lee Seng turned and nodded.

"According to the rule book, you can offer weapons for the examinees, right? It can't be anything too lethal, so..." Lee Seng trailed off. He snapped his fingers as his lips curled into a slight smile. "I'll just take a bokken."

"A wooden sword is alright with you?" Icarus asked. Lee Seng nodded. "We do have wooden weapons available, but usually those who ask for them, want them heavily reinforced so the bokken might be a bit heavier for you. Is that really okay?"

"Yes, sir."

Icarus nodded and pulled his phone out of his pocket and tapped on it a couple times. He scrolled and landed on the weapons page and clicked. A loud mechanical whirring noise was heard from the right and the wall opened up to a huge selection of wooden weapons. The students were in amazement just like Lee Seng. They all gasped in surprise. Students began to mumble amongst each other and Lee Seng quickly made his way towards the wooden weapons.

Swords of all different sizes and kinds were lined up. He could recognize staffs and tonfas amongst the wooden weapons, but hovered over the swords. He was pulled over towards a lighter wood colored bokken. He grabbed it and waved it around. It was heavier like Icarus had said, but this one felt... different. He swung it a couple of times and nodded. Lee Seng turned around and moved towards the center of the gym. He picked a dummy and stood in front of it.

"Are you ready, Chang?" Icarus asked.

"Yes, sir."

"The time starts now!"

A timer popped up on the scoreboard and Lee Seng let out a sigh. He took his stance as everyone watched him.

'No time to be scared. You've done these strikes a million times. You've practiced for hours on end.' Lee Seng reminded himself. The familiar vibration enveloped his hands and quickly enveloped the bokken. He could feel the bokken start to hum. Lee Seng swung at the dummy and quickly activated the gravity strike. The sword quickly silenced and the sound of the dummy being hit was heard. The dummy had a clear cut across its chest and Lee Seng quickly began striking it over and over.

The dummy's number slowly rose with hit after hit. Cuts became more noticeable and the dummy looked like it was about to fall off. The number on the dummy clocked to 1649 and then the cuts started to mend themselves. Lee Seng stepped back and took a couple of breaths.

'Twenty seconds left.' Lee Seng glanced at the scoreboard. It was counting down and he readjusted himself before taking form again. 'Maybe I'll try the ranged attack move.' Lee Seng took a couple of steps back, everyone still watching him. The dummy's number blinked at 1649 and Lee Seng slowed his breathing.

He lifted his blade diagonally upwards and held it. The vibration energy began to build. The sword began to hum loudly. Icarus noticed something was different and leaned in closer. Vanessa glanced at Icarus and shook her head.

"Sir, this could be dangerous." She whispered.

"All of the dummies are on still, right?" Icarus asked. Vanessa looked at Icarus with a confused look and nodded. "Good. Throw a S reinforcement up."

"Sir?"

"Just do it."

Vanessa quickly double-tapped her wristwatch and inputted the commands and clicked on the result. She hovered over it and looked at Icarus who nodded. She hit the result and a thin screen materialized on the black line two feet in front of them. Students began to mutter. The timer hit 6.9 seconds and Lee Seng felt the sword vibrating quickly.

He smiled and planted his left foot behind him and his right foot in front of him. He moved the sword towards the side of him and gripped the handle with both hands. He swung the sword horizontally and a huge, thin wave of gravity flew outwards. All of the dummies behind him shook as the blast rocked the gym. Students began to panic. The force energy created a blast of wind that slammed against all sides of the walls, pressing up against the thin reinforcement wall in front of Icarus and Vanessa.

The gravity wave slammed against the first row of dummies and proceeded to slice right through them and continue to the next row. The gravity wave sliced through all of the dummies in front of Lee Seng before slamming into the wall and shaking the gymnasium. The overhead lights shook and began to rock back and forth as a loud horn blared. The timer hit zero and Lee Seng looked at the sword. The sword had crumbled into dust.
