As he spoke to the girl his instinct kicked in. He dove in her direction grabbing her in his arms before rolling.
Bam! A rock burst through the asphalt where the girl previously stood. Shaun took her from his arm.
"Are you ok?" Shaun asked while grimacing. Blood soaked through his white shirt. In his attempts to save her an exposed wire had cut his side.
The girl immediately stopped crying and looked at Shaun with shock on her face.
"You just saved me, mister, " She said with wide eyes. In an instant, her mood changed and she smiled.
She jumped on the wounded Shaun. He groaned in pain but she only hugged him tighter. As Shaun faded in and of consciousness he stared into the sky. The red clouds were dissipating and he could have sworn someone was falling to their death.
