They both found themselves in front of her mother and father's grave.
"I thought Monique...-"
"No...we are not actually blood related sisters. I found her on our doorstep when she's still a baby. I was ten then and I got the chance to hold her for the first time."
Alex smiled as she recalled the memory.
"I asked my parents to adopt her. I want a baby sister after all. When my mother died...I was thirteen that time, uhm--" she paused to wipe her tears with her thumb.
"Dad could not take it when mom died. And so he left. He left with Monique." She looked up in the sky to prevent the tears from falling.
She wanted to act strong.
"Oh! I see. So you were all alone since you're thirteen?"
"Yup. Pretty much. I can't leave this place back then. I love it here. I mean, I grew up here. This place was my home. I have responsibilities that I could not just leave and go with my dad and Monique."
"I understand."
