Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: The School's Number One Student

When they reached the office, Jane waited for her turn as Jake went inside first.

When it was her turn, she didn't expect to receive a good news from the School Director.

"Really? Are you serious Director Lopez?!" She asked him.

"Yes I am! I'm not messing with you. Your professors told me that they will waive off your projects and termpapers because you have achieved an excellent result on last week's exam despite being away for three months. Well except for your thesis which you have to continue working on next semester, you don't have to submit any!" He excitedly said.

"May I know why?" She could not help but ask since as far as old Jane's memory was concern, these people that they were talking to were known for being the terror type of professors.

And so, it was a big miracle that they would just let them go just like that just because of her good performance in the exam.

"What do you mean why? I have already said it. You aced the exam. You're the number one student in school with an exam result of a hundred percent!" He said which made Jane to be speechless beyond words.

Even he himself could not believe it when he received Jane's exam results.

Yes, the old Jane may had aced her previous exams in the past but she would be within the range of ninety-eight to ninety-nine point nine percent! Director Lopez even teased her for deliberately not getting all the answers right.

But Jane would just ignore it. She didn't care anyways.

Getting a hundred percent had always been a dream even for Jane but sometimes the questionnaires seemed to have a mind of its own and would not cooperate with her.

Well, that only proved that she's still human, right?

Though she had the ability to know what on the other people's mind by touching, the old Jane never used this gift to cheat on her exams. She didn't have to cheat anyways.

That's why the old Jane also thought that no other people should know that she had this gift or all of her efforts would turn into vain. It's easy to accuse her of doing something unethical even if she had not done it.

She's once again the number one student in school and the highest posible candidate to graduate as Suma Cum Laude of her batch!

Hearing the result, Jane would believe it herself if she was still the old Jane and not Violet, the fallen Queen.

But she's Violet and everything was very new to her! She could not believe that she had made it to be on top.

She was confident that she could pass but to get a hundred percent rate in all subjects, not at all!

She was beyond proud for Jane and herself for pulling it off despite the short time to study.

Her thoughts were being stopped when she could feel her upper body being shaken gently.

"Student Jane! Are you okay?" Director Lopez asked in concern.

"Ye-ah! I'm fine. Sorry if I spaced out all of a sudden. I am just shocked beyond words." She said gently.

"You should be proud of yourself for this achievement."

"Yes! I am proud of myself." 'And Jane.' She continued in her thoughts.

"Thank you for giving me such good news Director." Jane said after she managed to compose herself.

"Then, you may use my phone to call your Mama in your hometown to deliver the news. That way, she will be at ease, too." He said making Jane to slightly nod.

"Why? What's wrong?" He asked after seeing her new reaction.

"Thank you Director but there's no need for me to use the telephone now. I now have a work and my new employer is very generous and bought me a new phone." She shared.

"Oh. That's good to hear. Then, you better ring your mother later to deliver the good news."

"En! I will Director!"

Meanwhile, on the waiting area, Jake was also waiting with Jane to come out. He felt worried because Jane was taking time in going out.

As soon as the door opened, he immediately approached her and asked, "How was it? What took you so long to come out?"

"Relax! You're acting worse than my mother." She teased.

"I can't help it. Not many students can walk in and out of that door aside from those who have done serious offense or those specially called to enter just like me and my brother and now, you too." He tried to explain.

"Relax, okay? You might not know this but ever since I was a freshman, I have been walking in and out of that door. This ain't the first time I came here." She said as she recalled Jane's previous memory.

"Sorry if I become over dramatic all of a sudden." He said as they started leaving the room and walked out to the hallway.

"It's fine. So, where will you be going after this?" She asked.

"Well, to the library probably. How about you?" He asked her back.

"Hmm. To the classroom so I can formally get my grades."

"Do you want me to go with you? I'm afraid they might try to bully you there."

"No! No need. And besides, them bullying me is nothing new. They better give me something new." She joked.

"Yeah. But --"

"It's really fine! And besides, they would probably bully me more if they will see you with me. Whether you believe me or not, you're very popular here and a lot have a crush on you. Your fans might come at me one by one." She seriously said making Jake to be upset.

"I really hate it when they looked at me like I owe them an explanation why you always stick with me." She added.

"Don't get me wrong. I only want to get close with you. I know my family acted like a sc*m. I treated you as if I didn't know you when you visited in our house the last time. My grandpa, he's so strict that even I could not stand him sometimes. But...I really want to be friends with you." He sighed as he shoved his hands on his pocket and looked up to hide his upset face.

This made Jane to feel bad, too.

"It's fine as long as we would only be just friends." She mumbled to comfort him.

"Yeah! Sure. Friends." He said in excitement.

"I know you're a great person. And I'm so thankful upon learning that you saved my baby sister. Speaking of her, she missed you so much. I'm sure she would be delighted when she learn that we're friends." He added.

"I miss that adorable little princess, too." She said as she continued walking with Jake beside her.

"I can ask Mom to secretly arrange a meet up with Celeste if you're okay with that. You could meet in my milk tea shop." He offered but Jane refused.

"It's fine. You don't have to trouble yourself. I won't have time for that anyways. I'll be working on weekends." She said.

"What a shame."

"No. I'm sure one of these days, we will meet again." She hinted with a smile.

She's really looking forward for Saturday to come.

"I'm here." She said as she saw the door of her classroom.

"You don't have to send me off on the doorstep." She added.

"Fine. But I want to have lunch together." He said making Jane to think about it.

"Well, if you know a quiet place where I can eat lunch silently, then I'm in." She said.

"Great! I know a perfect spot."

"Great!"

"Then, I'll pick you up when the bell rings. See you!" He said as he run away towards the direction of the library while waving his hand.

His action caught the attention of the students passing by the hallway but he ignored it.

They then diverted their gaze back at Jane but Jane just ignored them as she entered her classroom.

"Look! Isn't she the girl who went missing for three months and just showed up last week?" One student asked.

"Yeah. Everyone knows her because of two reasons. One is her appearance and the other one is because she's smart. However, her ugly appearance overshadowed her academic performance." Another student asked.

"I wonder how she performed on the exam though. I heard that if she failed, she would be expelled?"

"What? Who said that?"

"Stephanie and her gang? Where were you the last time?"

"Oh. I was catching up with last minute study last time." She scratched her head as she admitted it.

"How much do you think will be your over all score?" Her friend asked.

"I don't think I can pass fifty-percent."

Meanwhile, Jane sat down on her chair at the back near the window like always so she won't distract her classmates.

"Oh look! The school freak is here!" Stephanie said as she and her gang finally entered the classroom and walked towards Jane's seat.

They wanted to irritate her but Jane ignored them and in the end she got irritated instead.

"You damn b*tch! I'm talking to you so you better respond!" She said as she was about to grab her hair and pulled them.

But Jane was quick to grab her wrist tightly.

"Try to lay this hand on me and you'll know the price of courting death!" She said in her low, rasp voice making everyone to be stunned in shock.

"Grow up! You're a senior student in college, not in high school! Get your attitude together. Your father won't always be backing you up every time you make trouble." She said making Stephanie to gasp in shock.

"You!"

"Yes! Me!" Jane said as she stood from her seat and looked at her directly in the eyes.

"Do you really think that bullying me would really make me leave this school? You don't own this school. None of us own this school so no one can force me to leave except for Madam Chair herself!"
