The next morning I woke up. I was still in Torren's embrace, I had thought he would have left my room before I woke up but he was still there with me. I placed back my head on his chest smiling.
'Do we stay this way all day my love?' I didn't even know Torren was already awake. I thought he was still fast asleep.
'If you so desire it my love' I responded even making myself more comfortable in his embrace.
'You know, Kahlan will be in here any moment my lady' he said.
'Then we would ask her to take the day off' I had already responded innocently before I realized he was pulling my legs. That was what I told him the last time he came to me. Realizing it I smiled and nudged him while he laughed.
We remained silent for a few minutes before Torren started again.
'I think it's time you move into my room or do you want me moving into yours?'. I had never even thought of it before now and I was already used to my privacy.
'I think we should take things one step at a time' I didn't know what else to say.
'I don't think I took two steps at a time, did I?' Torren always had his ways with words that always broke down my defences. Noticing I had no words to defend myself with he just smirked.
'Are you scared you might not be able to get hold of yourself around me?, you know I would love that' Torren teased me.
'Yet your heart was beating last night ha' at least I knew what to say at that point and Torren was at a loss for words.
'I.. I.. My.. C'mon Diana That's a lie' he denied, I didn't push further, I just let him lie. I kissed him on his cheek. 'I love you too Torren' I was just responding to what he said the other night.
'We should really get out of bed, it's late' Torren said but I ignored him. 'Do you have somewhere to be today lord Torren?'
Torren had not answered that question when Kahlan came knocking on the door. 'My lord, Sir Magnus is here to see you, should he wait in the throne room?'
Torren looked at me as if to get my permission. 'Yes please' I didn't give Torren permission, rather I responded to that myself. Kahlan responded ok and left, Torren looked at me but I got up and made way for him to leave. 'Sir Magnus does not seek you in vain my love. I am sure he has something important to report' Torren still did not respond to me, he just stared at me. 'Practice with me later today, I would like you to see how stronger I'm becoming' I smiled while I told Torren. He smiled and nodded before he left.
I was so excited that morning, I went back to bed thinking of the night before. I smiled to myself at the thought of Torren's touch.
Not long after Torren left Kahlan walked into the room with some sheets for my bed. 'Good day my lady, I need to change your sheets' she said as she bowed, I could see a little smile at the edge of her lips. I didn't want her to change the sheets, at least not today. How can she even change the sheet today that I had a moment with my husband on that sheet. 'No Kahlan, change it tomorrow' Kahlan smiled and nodded.
'Kahlan sit' I told her and she sat next to me.
'Do you think I should move into Lord Torren's room?' I had always valued Kahlan's opinion, I always considered it when making any decision at all. 'He is your husband my lady, it is right for a wife to be together with her husband anywhere' I know Kahlan would not want to talk directly but she really wanted to talk.
'We consummated our marriage last night' I said shyly. Kahlan smiled mischievously 'I know'.
'How?' I was bothered that she probably heard us last night.
'You look more beautiful and happy than you do other mornings my lady. And lord Torren spent the night here' she said still smiling. I was relieved she didn't hear us last night.
Kahlan prepared my bath water and I had my bath and dressed up all for Torren, I wore his best color, red. I wondered why he liked red most. Was it because red is danger or because it's bloody.
After the long day, it was dusk and it was time for me to practice. I really wanted to became so strong with the sword. I loved to see women who were strong and defended themselves with the sword and I wanted to be like that so I've been practicing so much with Kahlan. I admired her skills, she was perfect with swords and she could perfectly use bows and arrows. She taught me a lot, and yes, out of 15 fights we had so far, I beat her in seven.
I was really eager to show my skills to Torren. I knew for a fact he would love it. I took my sword and practiced some moves I've learned from Kahlan so far cutting through the air.
'Nice move Queen Diana, what you'll be needing more than just that to beat me' I turned around to the direction of the voice, it was Torren.
'Don't ever underestimate a fragile queen with a sword, she might show you no mercy lord of Darca' I responded feeling confident. Torren smiled and picked up a sword. 'Wanna show me what you have got?' He asked swinging his sword, I positioned myself and Torren and I started to circle each other. Torren had this unserious look but I looked so serious. I really wanted to defeat Torren.
I attacked him first and he blocked. This time I was more of an attacker, Torren kept blocking but once he attacked, I was down.
'You weren't bad queen' Torren said smiling and giving me a hand to help me to my feet.
'You almost got me killed king' I said getting up not even taking his hand, he smiled. 'You know I hate that title and whatever comes with it' Torren said.
'Well, I guess I'll have to address you by that from today your highness' I said laughing. Torren laughed and stretched out his hand to get me but I quickly slipped away. I loved to play a lot and I enjoyed playing with Torren. I tried to run but he pulled me back.
'Why do you hate it though?' I asked looking at Torren.
'I don't know. I just don't like it. Kings are greedy and weak. They're nothing without their warriors' he responded.
I wanted to retort when I remembered my father is a living witness to Torren's words. He was weak and was nothing without his warriors and now Kahlan has a hold on him. I shrugged and smiled while Torren held my jaw and lifted my face up to lock eyes with me.
We stared into each other's eyes smiling until a voice interrupted us. Kahlan's voice. 'My lady, you have to come right now'.
'Kahlan whatever it is can wait, can't it?' I asked, I and Torren had let lose our hold on each other, I looked at Kahlan and noticed the sadness in her eyes. ''Kahlan, speak to me'' I demanded.
Lord Torren stared at Kahlan for a brief moment "speak Kahlan" he ordered. "My lady, your father's dead body was found in front of the palace".
