After the tournament, I sustained injuries from all the dodging and hitting, I also felt sick. I have never been in a real fight all through my life. I have only just practiced. But today also was the very first time I discussed with Lord Torren, or should I say, my husband.
Kahlan was in my room helping me attend to my wounds and trying to see what she could do about my headache. She helped me have my bath before she brought some herbs to treat me.
''You fought so well your majesty'' Kahlan said while attending to my wounds.
''Kahlan, your majesty? I think I would prefer the 'lady' title'' I responded with a smile.
''Okay, my lady. It's just that I am so excited, Lord Torren has never introduced anyone as our queen. This means you will never have to worry about dying, I'm so happy lady Diana'' she said widely smiling and I could hear sincere happiness in her voice.
''I'm more excited Kahlan'' I held her.
''Yes, you should be. You fought so well and now you're the queen of Darca'' Khalan was happy for me.
''Listen, dear, I am not excited for any of the things you have just mentioned. I'm excited that I have a friend now, Kahlan you are my friend and I will like you to call me Diana'' I looked into her eye.
''You know my lady, I never wanted to get attached to you because I thought you'll end up like lady Larissa, I didn't want to be hurt again'' she was now looking sad.
''Who's lady Larissa?'' I asked Kahlan.
''She was Lord Torrens first wife'' Kahlan sighed and continued 'after lord Torren got married to Lady Larissa, she was just like you. Kind, beautiful, always happy though lord Torren never talked to her. She was forced to marry Lord Torren by her parents. She was a price they paid to Torren for stealing from Darca. She lasted for just three days in this palace but we became friends as we had known for years, but one day, I came into her room and met her dead'' tears rolled down her cheeks.
I held Kahlan's hand and looked at her ''it's okay Kahlan, I'm so sorry'' she nodded cleaning off her tears and instantly cheering up but I could still see the pain deep down her heart.
''Lord Torren is not as dangerous as he is said to be my lady. He didn't kill Lady Larissa, I don't know about his other brides but I'm sure of lady Larissa''
I decided not to ask Kahlan any other questions at that time.
''And my lady, we are friends but please I would love to address you as my lady, I am still your serving girl'' Kahlan smiled at me before she picked up a herb she initially dropped when telling Lady Larissa's story.
"Kahlan, as my friend can I tell you something?" I whispered.
"I couldn't..." But I was cut short.
''I will take it from there, thank you Kahlan'' it was Lord Torren.
Kahlan got up, bowed to him, and left. Torren moved close and sat on my bed.
''I'm sorry about your injuries my lady'' he said staring at me in the eye. His eyes were felt with sincerity. I didn't think he heard our conversation.
''It's nothing my lord, it will heal soon'' I said still a bit scared.
Torren said nothing, he just kept staring at me.
''If you wouldn't mind lord Torren I have to attend to my wounds'' I said in all attempts to make him leave.
''Torren is fine or else you find a more suitable name for your husband'' he hadn't taken off his eye from me.
My fear at this point turned to nervousness. ''I'll attend to your wound'' he placed his hand on my wound and just like magic they were instantly healed. I wasn't surprised because I have heard his story and I know he's capable of magic.
''You are beautiful Diana, I'm glad I have you'' his words surprised me.
''Then why did you have me fight to the death'' I instantly regretted why my nervousness didn't keep those words from escaping my mouth but I still acted confidently.
''Because I want my woman brave and strong'' he replied.
''I could have been killed. Leone almost had me down Torren'' I just addressed him by his name?
Torren smiled ''he almost had you down yet you spared his life, why?''
''I don't know, maybe because I couldn't kill him. I have never killed in my life or maybe because I was returning a favor someone did me on the battleground'' I finally looked into his unwavering gaze. ''That doesn't make me brave, does it?''
''Yes. You're brave, strong, courageous, and kind. A quality I never thought I will be able to find in one woman, yes and daring, you are daring Diana'' I started to laugh.
''Yet you look so weak, so fragile and scared'' he said, now I stopped laughing.
''Torren'' was the only word I could say at that point, I was already falling for this Vampire, so quickly.
I finally found my words again "why did you help me? and don't even deny it because I saw you take him down" I asked knowing I wouldn't get an answer though.
After a brief silence, ''Qarinah attacked Halun today. She already conquered them'' he finally spoke up ignoring my question and bringing up a new conversation.
''You mean halun has no king but Qarinah now?'' I asked
''Drigo has a king Diana but it is conquered by Qarinah, Halun's king will only bow to Qarinah while His people will bow to him'' Torren was talking to me.
''Oh, she is so powerful'' Torren laughed.
''Have you picked a dress for your coronation party yet?'' He asked pointing to the three dresses lying on my bed.
''No but don't worry, Kahlan will help me choose''
''Why don't your husband choose your dress today my lady, let Kahlan rest today'' he said looking at the dresses.
What could he mean by that? Is he going to help me dress up? This man is making me nervous and this feeling of fear is suddenly turning into affection.
''I like the red one my lady'' he said as I stared at him without a word, I could hear my heart pounding.
Before I could realize it, Torren took off my cloth and with just a little compliance from me he dressed me up in the red gown.
''I will let Kahlan take it from here my queen'' with that he left and had Kahlan continue her duty.
The party went on so well and I was almost grateful my stepmother pushed me off to this marriage. Since my mother died, I have never been this happy, but then what is Qarinah up to. I couldn't help but wonder.
