Chapter 12 - Mundus

The Blake household's library had books of high quality from around the globe. Some were imported into the country by the renowned Golden Sapling Company from the Biskar kingdom, which was owned by Kaz, while the others were from different sources throughout Mundus.

The library had three sectors, with each sector having many sections that each had their own reading materials. The first sector was for everyone to use, and it mostly had books related to stories, basic knight and magic books, basic arithmetic, basic spell construction, runes, languages, geography, history about the planet, music, history about the vampires, and many more.

The second sector was either for people who had high ranks within the black duchy or prestigious guests that visited the castle. The sections in this sector had summoning books, intermediate and advanced knight and magic books, runes, encyclopedias of the different monsters from the cracks, history and uniqueness about other species, manipulation blood arts, etc.

However, the third sector was only for the most distinguished people. In essence, it contained forbidden knowledge known to only about 30 to 40 individuals in the world. It was also where Athan's personal library was located, as he was the perfect warden to safeguard such secrets.

His maze-like library had many entrances, so it was not necessary for one to go through the third sector to get to him.

All in all, the library was massive.

The place was managed by the chief librarian, Lark, and three librarians: Nina, Frank, and Ronald.

The three of them were each assigned two days of work from the week, and the last day was shared between them as a shift. Saturday and Sunday to Nina, Monday and Tuesday to Frank, Wednesday and Thursday to Ronald, and Friday where they all worked, albeit for a few hours per person.

Today was Frank's since it was Tuesday. Frank was a vampire commoner who used to live in the province of Baroness Celia from the Avitus household; now he worked for the Blake household. He had a long face and brown eyes. He looked frail.

He was sitting on the counter near the library entrance, reading a book about 'How to Construct Tier 2 Spells.'

As he was about to flip to the next page, he heard the double door of the library being opened. He glanced at it and saw it was a young boy with crimson eyes and black hair.

'Young master?' he questioned, puzzled. It was rare for the young master himself to come to the library since he was usually followed around by Maria.

He quickly got up from his chair and bowed. Coy noticed his gesture, nodded, and ambled towards him. Seeing him get closer with each step, Frank's heart started to palpitate fast as he felt his back getting heavy and his chest tight.

Vampires of lower status naturally had such reactions whenever they were in front of another vampire with much higher status than them due to their strong presence.

Coy, although still a youngling, was considered a noble vampire, and a duke at that. Frank's situation was inevitable if the vampire of a higher status didn't repress the pressure they normally exuded.

{Suppress your pressure, idiot!} Chóros reprimanded.

'Oh.' Coy did as he was told. He had forgotten to control his presence, as he was used to freely letting it loose back on earth.

That was a stupid mistake because his family definitely noticed it when they were having dinner, and the usual him in Mundus did not announce his presence wherever he went.

'I have been on edge ever since I regained my memory back. I'm not a fan of cheering for the best, but I hope they thought of it as me being nervous.'

"Young master, how may I be of assistance?" inquired Frank as he felt a boulder being lifted off his back.

"Good morning, Frank. How is your day going?" Coy, greeted with a smile. He knew Frank since he used to come here often.

"It is going very well, young master." Frank humbly answered.

"Great, can you help me get books related to history, geography, apprentice, and squire?" listed Coy.

"Understood. Where should I bring it to you?"

Coy pointed at a corner. "Over there would be nice."

Frank bowed and left to procure the books.

Coy walked up to the corner and sat down on one of the chairs. {I have been meaning to ask you about this for a while, but why are you so adamant about reading the records of this world? I did not take you for a historian.}

{To understand the current flow of the present and be part of it, it is necessary for me to understand the past. Who to be friends with and who not to be friends with, what to learn and what not to learn, what to become and what not to become. The past will let me look into those questions of mine, and in return, I will benefit from it.}

{ Alright..}

{Oh right, isn't it about time you told me about what you are? I can guess that you are some kind of magical cube—which is obvious—but I want to hear the details from you,} Curiously asked Coy.

{ When that errand-sick guy comes back, tell him to get a book about magic artifacts. I will tell you what I am when you finish that.}

Coy pursed his lips in disappointment as he surveyed the library, interested by its design.

{How can three whole sectors fit here?} He asked. From his memories, he usually went to the second sector, so he had a brief idea of how large this place was. Two sectors were a reasonable amount, but the third one was a no-go because his father's library was also in the third sector.

{Hmm, I can sense fluctuations of the space between the second and third sectors… It seems that the third is in a pocket space,} reasoned Chóros.

{Pocket—} As he was about to ask Chóros about the pocket space, Frank's footsteps distracted his attention.

Frank was carrying eight books. Four of them were about apprentice level in the magic system and squire level in the knight system, the remaining four were about the history and geography of the Sfragída continent.

He placed it on Coy's table.

"Thank you." Coy expressed gratitude.

Frank bowed with respect. "Your words are wasted on me, young master."

As he said that, he went back to his post.

Coy scanned the books and picked one with a brown hardcover that had a rough drawing of an abstract entity descending from the firmament. 'The Beginning' was its title.

During the time he was reading, Maria visited him and brought him lunch. She stayed beside him for an hour, chatting from time to time and helping him with certain parts of the book he didn't understand before leaving.

Many knights and magicians of the Blake duchy also came to the library for personal purposes. Coy was sitting in a conspicuous corner, and as such, he was free of any disturbances. He was completely engrossed with the book on his hands.

The history of Mundus was fascinating nonetheless, and this book talked about in great depth.

An eon, a term used to describe a time span of a billion years. But in Mundus, an eon is the end or start of a bitter past full of regret and lessons. Some eons could be around 100,000 years, some 50,000 years; the shortest eon ever recorded was the seventh eon, 1173 years. That eon was one of horror because of the demons' invasion.

'The beginning' narrated the history with clarity about how the Ancient One came to this world and was the cause of how it is now.

The Ancient One descended upon this land in the first eon of change at dawn as the crystalline white sands were reflected on the ground. It traversed the land and seas, day and night, and rested beneath the towering mountains in the far west of the other side of the world.

That's when it encountered its first sign of life in this land, a water spirit. The spirit was of a cheerful nature, and they jabbered for weeks until it invited the Ancient One to its home, where it was welcomed. Innumerable winters passed by as the Ancient One researched this land and left records about its discoveries in the form of a diary.

Alas, everything has a beginning and an end. The Ancient One was reaching old age, and it knew its time was near.

It eventually passed away, and its place of burial was declared unknown. From then on, it was the rise of the present-day races that dominated the world.

It has been speculated by many scholars that the death of the ancient one was the catalyst prior to that incident, which was called the great uprising.

A famous historian even made a claim about it. -He quoted, "With the Ancient One's descent, was the ascent of ourselves!"
