MIKU?
Why's she here now?
It seems that she doesn't know that I've regained my consciousness.
She seems to have brought a bag. Isn't she supposed to be at school?
Our eyes met. They were in a deadlock. The time and everything around us froze.
A few drops of tears filled down her eyelids and started to roll down her cheeks.
She dropped her bag.
"Na...Nao! NAO!"
She started to run towards me.
She's running towards me...She's running towards me!!!
"Woah! Stop! STOP!"
My sudden command seemed to slow her down. Oh man, I can't even begin to imagine what would have happened otherwise. Wait, this is the right time. Hehe
"Woah, calm down lady! Who are you? Why are you running towards me as if I know you? Who's Nao? Judging by the looks of it, and the way you approached me, do I happen to be your brother? Are we cousins? Or do you happen to be my sister?"
"Na...Nao? No! NO! Not...Not again!"
She fell down on her knees and laid out an outcry. She started to sob non-stop. Well, that's cute. I never thought a girl would actually cry for me. I mean, the current me. That's comforting to know that I won't be forgotten. I was brooding in my own thoughts, as her sobbing started to fade away with the background.
From the looks of it, she never recovered from the first time this happened to me. Until now she was putting up a brave front. But in hindsight, she's still a weak and fragile girl. With that being said, I ain't any better. I'm just a pathetic existence.
"You're...You're lying. Aren't you? Please tell me this is a lie! Please."
Her voice suddenly cut in.
"This is a lie!"
"Huh?"
She looked at me, and we were very close to each other. Our eyes could see each other clearly. I could see the moist eyelashes. While she could see my lifeless eyes.
"What? You asked me to say that, and so I did. What's with that face? Cheer up. I can't have my sister making a nuisance now, can I?"
I reached out my hand to her. But she pushed it away in a hasty manner, and exclaimed!
"I ain't...I ain't your sister. I'm..."
She held the hems of her skirt tight and looked me dead in the eye.
"I'm your...I'm your...I'm your girlfriend..."
"Girlfriend's sister? Sorry, I can't cheat on her with you. That's immoral and wrong of me. I hope you won't be heartbroken. I'm sure there's a nice guy waiting for you somewhere out there in this far wide world. Sorry for worrying you and taking your time."
"Stop it! Just please, stop it."
She pulled her arm close to her body, and bent her head down for a while, in disbelief.
"Please, stop it."
She murmured.
A door slid open.
"What's going on?"
Doctor Harumi entered the room. He noticed her crying and stared at me seriously. I feel he wouldn't hesitate to insert a needle without any respite. Scary!
"Michiru's acting like a little kid is what happened."
She looked at me and realized it was all and suddenly pounced at me.
"Nao! You idiot! Stupid! Rascal! Pervert! I hate you! Die! You should have died!"
"Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow! Stop it. Stop it, my lady. I get it. I'm sorry. I won't pull another trick like that for a while."
She looked at me seriously.
"For a while?"
"Yes!"
She pinched me and twisted the skin near my gut.
"Ah! So good."
She twisted it harder.
"Agh!!! Ok, I'm sorry. Forgive me. Please. I won't do it again."
"Don't...Don't scare me like that again. Ever!"
"Alright! Now, will you please get off me?"
"I've never seen you acting so caring to anyone till now, Nao."
"Am I?"
"Aren't you aware of yourself?"
"Well, I've stopped being self-aware of myself for a while now."
"So, you're slowing down. Any plans of settling at a place with a special someone?"
"Nope! Isn't that a very sensitive topic? Why are you asking me that now?"
"Because this is the only situation I can get an answer out of you."
I looked at Miku, who was on top of me.
She looked a bit sad.
Well, sorry. But I can't try to please you with a lie. That's one thing I will never do.
I may not tell the truth. But that doesn't mean I'll lie. To lie is to just live in a fantasy. Over time, you are consumed by your own lies, and you start living in that carefree world until everything falls apart. You burn in the flames called reality until you're nothing but ashes.
"Look. Don't get me wrong. But slowing down is just not me. The world is ever so changing. Staying at one place means stagnating or rusting out. Everything in today's world is based on evolution over revolution. Staying in one place means you're wrapping up yourself in a very comfortable place. It's a comfort zone, in the basic sense."
"And yet, you're always here. So, is this your comfort zone?"
"Haha. Funny!"
I looked at Miku.
"Why are you here? Weren't you supposed to be at school?"
She pouted with a look of disappointment.
"You don't care about my feelings at all, do you? I mean..."
She was almost about to cry, but spoke very slowly in a soft tone.
"I was worried sick about you, so much that I couldn't think of anything else. And the first thing I get after your recovery is a prank and now this. Why? Why can't you be serious?"
"I'm serious. You can't always prioritise me. You have to focus on your academics."
"That's awful. Coming from you."
"Harsh! But since it's me, I am the best source."
"But even if I wanted to, how can I?"
"What do you mean? What's wrong?"
"What's wrong? Nao, the whole school is in chaos!"
AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!
