Chapter 3 - Intense Spark

'—Today, let's talk about the English language. What do you know about English language? What is the English language? How important it is for global connection and communication? How prominent is the English language in making a figure out to the world?

English language is a tool for communication. It is used nearly everywhere: in the academe, business, professional jobs, politics, media, and whatnot. And linguistically speaking, like any other language, the English language is composed of different components: phonology, syntax, semantics, morphology, and pragmatics.

The English language is also the global lingua franca. It's considered to be the common language for speakers who do not possess the same native language—'

I stopped typing on my laptop when suddenly something rang inside my mind. I remembered what happened to me last night. I talked to a stranger. Or was it?

I was still thinking about what I thought I heard from him. There's something in me that is sure I had heard the man say my name. I think he said my name. Did he? Before I could truly walk away from him to leave the bar, I vaguely heard my name being pronounced and that voice sounded like his voice.

Or maybe, I could be mistaken. After all, the bar was noisy with music and people screaming. Maybe I heard different name that rhymed exactly with mine. I cannot be hundred percent sure.

I looked back to what I'm doing. I'm currently writing a draft for my blog site. I have found my niche and it's the English language but I'm also writing about different topics like lifestyle and health, creative writing and personal writing where I posts what my sister, Luna, said were 'rants'.

They are all divided in categories and my site's going well. For me, what mother said wasn't true. I'm earning more than enough. Considering my regular readers that always wait for my updates and were always generous to leave their comments in, I'm earning more than the average.

I'm also living pretty well in my two bedroom apartment. The place I've been living for the past year is nice and homey. The walls are painted in ivory cream, floor is timbre, windows are glass with white curtains and small potted plants are styled on the coffee table in my living room.

The apartment contained a nice bathroom I recently had renovated, a small kitchen and a nice dining and my favorite spot to write in, veranda for a good view of outside.

Initially, I wasn't allowed to get my own place but it was Luna who managed to convince mother. How she managed to do that, I don't know. Mother is known to be very strict and old-fashioned.

Her most important rule is to never leave the house unless we get legally married but somehow, in Luna's own way, mother said yes.

But when she discovered the place I picked, she scolded me for picking something 'crampy', 'old', and 'barely even standing'.

When I was done creating the draft, I saved it to proofread and edit for later. I went to the kitchen to cook for lunch but when I opened my fridge to check, I found that I had cooked all of my stock.

Time to buy groceries.

➴➴➴

I was busy perusing the racks of condiments after I finished buying meat and some vegetables when I felt a tap on my shoulder.

Turning my head to look, I tensed when I saw a familiar face.

It was the stranger I met in the bar holding a basket of groceries.

"We meet again" he smiled.

I didn't speak but kept my eyes on his. He is even more handsome in proper lightning but that rat's nest for a hair is still there. Does he never use a comb? Looking over at his physical appearance properly, I discovered that the man have coal black eyes, long eyelashes, cherry red lips, pointed nose, and perfect thick eyebrows. He's also casually chewing gum and is simply wearing sweatpants and a white tee that showed those strong veins on his arms. They were protruding and against my better judgment, sexy.

"You don't know me? We met at the bar last night" he waved a hand in front of me.

What coincidence it is that we are both buying our groceries at the same time at the same supermarket?

"Anyway, I failed to introduce myself last night. I'm Valen" he offered a hand and I merely stared at it. Even his nails are properly and neatly trimmed.

"Oh, come on, miss. Don't embarrass me here. I don't mean any harm"

Miss.

Maybe he really doesn't know me. Maybe I really did imagine him saying my name.

"R-right. Sorry" I formally apologized and accepted the handshake, "I'm Louise"

I gulped when his hand tightened around mine. It was calloused but firm and hot. I began to sense something inside me that compelled me to lengthen the handshake but tried to fight it.

What is this? These are wrong thoughts. Improper for a Grey lady.

"Pleasure to see you again" he smiled but rather than seeing kindness, I saw something else.

Intensity. Something no man had ever looked at me in a way.

"N-nice to meet you" I stuttered again, eyes cannot stop darting over to our joint hands to his smile to his eyes.

When I pulled my hand away, I stood there awkwardly. Not knowing how to properly communicate because I was busy trying to conclude what is happening inside me.

"Do you mind some company?" he asked casually, "Doing grocery alone is lonely"

I gulped. I started to feel breathless as I was assaulted with a strong musky smell coming from him and not understanding why, my heartbeat quickened and my stomach recoiled.

What is happening?

"Hey, are you okay?" Valen asked, sounding concerned, "Do you have asthma?!"

"N-no. I'm fine. I'm just. . . just feeling breathless"

"Let me help with your grocery" before I can nicely refuse the offer, Valen took the cart away from my hands and put the basket inside it.

"Let's go buy your groceries and perhaps if you'd like, we could go for some snacks? I know a nice place"
