Chapter 9 - 9. DRIGO, my Lito’s life

DRIGO moved out to Caracas, Venezuela. Better future was been offered there.

Great jobs

Great life

Great food

Great possibilities

Wow! - paradise!

Compared to my native country, the one that saw me being born, the one that nurtured snd cherished me, was being invaded by a loss of jobs, murders, stealing, abuse. This once beautiful paradise was slowly dying, like cancer, a very slow and painful death.

Night curfews were slowly turning off the once bright and lively candlelight.

No more block parties

No more dancing

No more weddings

No more neighbourhoods potluck

No more street parties

No more weekend soccer games

Close neighbours became distanced

Families moved out to another cities

Every day living was getting tough

Prices on gas drove the prices on food almost impossible to afford.

All the good opportunities were across the border.

If you want to survive the recession, go out of the country.

If you get lucky and find a great job across the border, you establish a great monetary foundation to support your family back living in the country that saw you being born, gave you good education.

And a great job?

I could've stayed home bound, but my guts where yelling at me to leave my country's.

The country that saw me being born.

The country that gave me education.

The country that saw cc me grow up.

The country that I will give my life defending it fighting for its rights and freedom.

I felt I was defeated.

My dreams broken

My plans broken

My heart broken
