Detective Rodgers was surprised to see a smile suddenly appear on Mai's face. It was the first one since this interrogation had begun. So far she had behaved as if putting on an act, a bad one at that.
Leaving aside the crazy things she had just said for the moment, he had been sure that Mai would finally be willing to share her version of events. The next second though, Mai sat there and she started to squint really hard with her eyes while holding the green gem necklace in her hands, continuing to squint.
"Erghh, is everything okay? Do you perhaps need to go to the bathroom?" Mr Rogers asked, confused what she was doing.
Hearing this broke Mai's concentration and made her face turn bright red from embarrassment.
"No, no!" She waved frantically. "I was just trying to…." She was going to say something, but she knew that explaining it to the detective would not only be useless but most likely make them think she had gone completely crazy.
