Chereads / Soul for a Girlfriend? / Chapter 10 - The Argument

Chapter 10 - The Argument

A week has passed since I got that dreadful contract and a free pain in the ass named Lilith.

My gaze was locked on Tomose's notebook. She was conversing with a girl beside her. I observed her handwriting, and it was really neat and clean.

"Do you want my notes?" She asked, noticing my gaze on her notebook.

"Nah, I don't need notes."

"Ah, you make your own notes?"

"No, I remember them. I'm too lazy to make notes." I smiled awkwardly. She had a shocked expression on her face.

"You can remember all this!? How?"

"Kind of." I shrugged. "By the way, your handwriting is really cute." I said and left for the washroom. Don't want to pee myself in front of Tomose.

Man, pissing after a boring period hits different not going to lie. This was like a different level of pleasure.

I returned to the class and noticed that Sakura and Yoshiwa were talking with Tomose, but she had this strange smile on her face. Kana was sitting beside Tomose. Our eyes met, and she smiled. I smiled back and returned to my desk.

I hope I don't end up making the wrong girl fall for me. That would be a pain in the ass.

"Hey, you became friends with them pretty quickly." Yukimura was impressed at the fact that despite being a loner, my socializing skill was good. He has been pretty busy recently with his club activities, so we rarely talked.

"Yeah, it's weird." I said in my usual tone.

"I wonder how long you can keep this up." He smirked.

I gave him a sheepish smile. Of course, this guy has known me for more than a year now. He knows I'm up to something. I have to be really subtle about my actions in future.

Yukimura was a guy with good observations. He was my opposite. I was a person with sharp intuitions. I know he won't judge me for whatever I end up doing, though.

But he was also a person with firm morals. I on the other half was a piece of shit with no moral values whatsoever.

Our next couple of periods were mathematics and after that, it was lunchtime. Boring periods like maths seem to last forever.

Finally, it was lunchtime, but our maths teacher asked us to submit our notebooks. I was filling the table of contents of my notebook before submitting it.

I looked up to see if the person collecting the notebook was there or not. And he was not there. What a drag, I have to now submit it in the teacher's room.

I picked up my notebook and headed towards the teacher's room.

I was returning from the teacher's room and noticed Tomose walking in my direction with four notebooks in her hand. She noticed me and smiled.

"Teacher's room?" I asked, staring at the hands. She nodded.

"Ok, I'll wait here. Let's head back to the class together." I said leaning on the wall next to me.

She went ahead. After a few moments she came back, I started walking with her.

"Did you submit the notebooks of Kana-san and others too?

"Kana-san? I didn't know you were close enough to her to call her by her first name." She raised an eyebrow.

"It's just a habit." I shrugged.

"Well, yeah since I was going, they told me to submit their notebooks too." She sighed.

"You're a nice person."

"You think?" she gave an awkward smile. I nodded.

We returned to the class together but the others' were gone for lunch in the cafeteria.

"You brought my fried chicken?" I asked her.

"Ah, I uh… I actually forgot." she fumbled a bit there.

"I'm really sorry. I didn't actually do that to play with your feelings."

Huh? I never said that. How did she even jump to that conclusion?

"It's okay, don't stress about it."

"I'm sorry." her head was still bowed down.

I bent down to her eye level and looked in her eyes. They were staring at the ground.

"Listen, it's okay. I didn't mind." I said in a soft voice. I was actually surprised that I can talk that politely.

"Let's go to the cafeteria."

"I... I don't want to." She replied.

"Did you not bring your lunch?"

"I did. I just don't want to eat in the cafeteria." She said while fiddling with the button of her shirt.

This is weird. I can see the discrepancies in her behaviour now. She might not be that much normal after all.

"Alright, let's roam around a bit." She liked the idea as her face showed a smile which was not forced this time.

We were walking around, and many students from different classes were greeting her. She even knew some of the upperclassmen. She was talking with everyone in a cheerful manner.

I can't imagine this is the girl who was depressed a few moments ago because she forgot to cook fried chicken.

"You're quite popular," I commented.

"Huh, nothing like that." She laughed.

"Are you feeling better now?" I asked.

"Yeah, thanks." She smiled.

"No need to thank me. I did nothing."

"You're still the same old Sakamaki-kun" She chuckled. I shrugged and kept walking with her.

Seems like her feelings are dismal. But what was the reason? She was smiling on the outside but it's the complete opposite inside her mind.

If I can somehow make her happy, I can actually make her fall for me.

We walked back to the class as lunchtime was about to be over soon. I noticed Kana and others were back.

They noticed us and Sakura commented. "So you were with Denchi-kun"

"Denchi-kun, you didn't eat with us today?" Kana questioned me.

"I had something important to take care of, Kana-san."

"I see, and that involves Tomose-san." She gave me a side glance and then looked at Tomose.

"Matsushita-san, Denchi-kun calls you by your first name?" Sakura asked.

"Areh, Denchi-kun is special for Tomose-san and Matsushita-san." Yoshiwa said while laughing.

"I know right." Kana also laughed with them. Sakura and Yoshiwa stopped laughing and stared at her.

"Are you serious?"

"Yeah, I mean he is a cool guy to hang around with." Didn't expect to hear those words coming out from Kana's mouth.

"Well, um, good for you." Sakura smiled.

All this while, Tomose was sitting quietly on her chair. She didn't take part in this conversation though I could tell that she wanted to speak.

"Well Tomose-san, I hope I can eat fried chicken-" I was interrupted by Sakura.

"That's bad Tomose-chan, you shouldn't promise something that you can't do."

"But I-" Tomose tried to speak but Yoshiwa cut her off.

"Well, we knew you-"

"Don't interrupt me while I'm talking to her." I looked at Yoshiwa, the smile on her face faded away.

"How dare you talk to me like that?" She shot back. My tone was pretty rude when I said that so she was probably triggered by that.

"What? You don't even have the basic social courtesy that you shouldn't interrupt when two people are already talking?"

"Huh? You think you're all cool and stuff because you have Matsushita-san and Tomose-san on your side?

"I'm cool, even if they weren't on my side."

Always wanted to say this.

"Sakamaki-kun is right." Kana supported me.

"Didn't expect you to side with him." Sakura sighed as she stood up from her chair.

This conversation had attracted a lot of eyes on us. Yukimura was staring at me from outside the door.

He raised his eyebrows while looking at us. It meant "what's going on."

I squinted my eyes and nodded my head slowly, which meant "I will tell you later."

Yes, we boys can talk in gestures with our eyes only. This was like a hack.

"Sakamaki-kun, my bad for interrupting you when you're talking with her." Sakura apologized. Her eyes glanced swiftly towards Kana and then back at me.

"It's alright." I went back to my desk.

The apparent group of best friends just got into a discord among them. Though Tomose didn't have much of an impact on this. It was ironic that the extremely cheerful Tomose, who is friendly with everyone, doesn't talk much in her own friend's group.

But today things got a lot more interesting
