Chapter 6 - Daily life - 3

---

### MC (POV)

It's been a week since the slaughter, and the memory of that night still lingers. The quiet aftermath feels almost surreal, like a calm sea after a storm. It's hard to believe that a single man, even one like William, could single-handedly wipe out an entire bandit village. But then again, nothing about our lives is ordinary.

In this small, frail body of a one-year-old, I'm often reminded of my limitations. Most of my days are spent sleeping, my body exhausted by even the smallest of tasks. But what frustrates me most is the loss of potential. Thousands of shadow summons, gone in an instant, simply because my body couldn't handle it. It's infuriating.

People often underestimate the population density of ancient East Asia. Marriages with one consort and numerous concubines were the norm, leading to an ever-growing population, even among the poorest of families. It's ironic, really. In a society that glorifies large families, there are still so many who die alone, never knowing the warmth of companionship.

Maybe that's why William has been so diligent in preparing for my future. We've settled in a quiet mountain village called Bamboo Village, a place untouched by the chaos of the outside world. William secured an identity for himself and even bought some land on the outskirts of the village. Despite the villagers' initial wariness, his generosity quickly won them over. Now, they look at us with a mix of respect and curiosity.

But William isn't one to take chances. He's begun building a mansion—a fortress, really—on the land he acquired. He plans to combine the elegance of European architecture with the practicality of Eastern designs. White walls, sturdy wooden doors, and a tiled roof that can withstand both the elements and any would-be intruders. It's clear he's thinking ahead, preparing for the day when my power will fully awaken.

When I checked the Silver panel, I noticed new titles had been added.

So, you're probably wondering about that "Mutant Killer" title. It's not exactly something I'm proud of, but it's a consequence of William's rampage. While he was busy slaughtering bandits, I sent my shadow pets—werewolves and the like—to track down any survivors. Some of those survivors turned out to be mutants.

Mutants in ancient times were a rare breed, not the powerhouses you see in the modern era. Back then, a mutant might just be someone with a bit more strength or intelligence than the average person. They were often labeled as geniuses or heroes, their true nature hidden beneath the surface.

But a mutant is still a mutant, and I've learned to respect their potential. That's why I've decided to send some of my shadows to infiltrate the local government. Better to be prepared than caught off guard.

I know William has noticed my shadows and the creatures that follow me. He's too observant not to. But I'm not worried. He's my guardian, my trusted ally. One day, I'll have to explain everything to him—my powers, my plans—but not my reincarnation. Some secrets are better left buried.

### William (POV)

The past week has been eventful, to say the least. The slaughter of the bandits was a necessary evil, one I don't regret. But what truly astonishes me is Young Master Victor. He's not like any pureblood vampire I've ever encountered. His ability to command shadows—intelligent, loyal creatures like werewolves and even a hydra—is beyond anything I've seen.

Werewolves are supposed to be the enemies of vampires, yet here they are, serving a vampire child. And the hydra... a beast from ancient myths, now a pet at the beck and call of my young master. It's clear to me that Victor is destined for greatness, perhaps even to become the eternal ruler of our kind. With his command over shadows, he could very well be an untouchable god among vampires.

But I can't rely on his powers alone. I need to build my own army, a force of both vampires and humans, to ensure that no harm ever comes to him. It starts here, in this village. With a little money and the right words, I can bring these people under my control.

The villagers were wary at first, suspicious of a stranger with foreign customs. But once I donated some gold to the village chief, their attitudes changed. Gold, after all, speaks louder than words. They're now eager to help, especially with the construction of the mansion. They see it as an opportunity—a way to improve their lives and secure their future.

When I met with the village chief to finalize the land purchase, he was all smiles, his earlier reservations forgotten. "Your generosity will not be forgotten, Lord William," he said, bowing deeply. "The people of Bamboo Village are in your debt."

"The pleasure is mine," I replied smoothly. "I'm simply investing in the future of this village. Together, we can create something truly magnificent."

As the chief escorted me out, he paused, turning to me with a curious look. "Lord William, if I may ask... your young master, Victor. He is... different, is he not?"

I met his gaze, my expression unreadable. "Victor is special," I said quietly. "But that is all you need to know."

The chief nodded, sensing the finality in my tone. "Of course, my lord. We are honored to have you and the young master here."

Later that day, I received official approval for the land and identities for both Victor and myself. The village has accepted us, though they struggle with our foreign names. But names are trivial. What matters is that we now have a place to call home—a place where I can begin to build a future for Victor.

As I watched the sun set over the mountains, I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. The groundwork has been laid. Now, it's time to see what the future holds.

### Author's Note:

The later stages of the story will focus on the development of the village and its people with William's help. After all, a slice of life needs a little peace and quiet before the storm. See you in the next chapter!
