Chapter 16 - Field Test

"Well now that I have explained everything to you, you need to remember that this is a magic school academy. We're not here to learn, we're here to produce results. Now, get ready within several minutes and line yourselves up at the entrance to the academy." Bricordia stated.

The students lined themselves up and Avan was about to leave but he was suddenly stopped by Verlyn. "Avan Neidleest right? My name's Verlyn Pofriez. Nice to meet you."

Avan looked at the hand that she reached out, "Likewise." And gave her a handshake.

"May I ask how you read the ancient scriptures that Ms. Bricordia put in the blackboard?"

"...I know some letters... I suppose?"

"Hurry up!" Bricordia's voice echoed throughout their whole room.

They all lined up outside and began to walk in unison to the training field wherein students were tested.

Bricordia then made them split into eight groups and lined themselves up. "Raise your hand if you haven't reached the First Tier of mana." She looked around and it seemed like no one was below First Tier. "Raise your hand if you're First Tier." More than half the class raised their hands. "Second Tier." Several people raised their hands. Including Avan and Verlyn. "Finally, Third Tier."

Meno raised his hand and suddenly, everyone felt fear, even Meno. But they couldn't pinpoint on who it is. But they all just shrugged it off as a false alarm.

Bricordia lined them up and asked them what their preferences are. Most people were in the magician category and just only several people went on to the swordsman group that Avan was in. "Alright, you may practice on your own, I will merely watch what you're doing. I want to gain the capacity of what you can do."

The others were hesitant at first, but Meno sparked everyone's initiation as he let out a third tier spell on the training dummy that was placed far away from them. "Lightning Piercer." It immediately pierced a large hole in the dummy and a burning aftermath. A complete Third Tier spell. But it left him completely mana less as that was all of his mana used in a single short time.

Bricordia began to take notes on what everyone was doing. "As I thought, Verlyn is amazing. She's activating First Tier spells as a combo. Chains, a binding spell, Fireball, a knockback to prevent them from going in and Ignite, a second tier spell. The afterburn from the Fireball will deal twice as much damage and the burn will last longer."

"Woah... What the hell is that sword." The murmurs from the other students took Bricordia's attention. Her amazement was like everyone else's.

Avan brought out his giant sword and each swing was heavy and precise. It was as if he was dancing to the rhythm of his beats as each of his steps left a mark on the ground.

It was a sword that was bigger and heavier than himself but he carried it and wielded it with such power and poise that the swordsmen around him joined in to practice their sword arts. But they all knew that Avan's art of swordsmanship was in a league of his own.

"His training feels so familiar... its strange." Bricordia thought to herself. "Everyone else sees it as a dance but they can't see the hidden movements in each swing. Each footstep he takes is a movement over a control of mana.

"Mana Search." She then used Mana Search to figure out the flow of mana of what's happening with Avan's movement. "Mana Control at such a young age this precise. What... insanity..."

It was as if the movement around Avan's body quickly changes from place to place. As he moves his foot, every single bit of mana goes into his foot. As he moves his hands, every single part of his hands gets imbued with all of his mana.

It was a dance of a swordsmanship and a dance of death to those who are unfortunate enough to be at the end of his blade.

As Avan finished up his training, all that was left on the ground were the markings of his shoes, completely imbued in the stone that was beneath him. A perfection of movement.
