His voice was scratchy, similar to what people sound like when they have colds. Xiajun's suspicion was confirmed when Officer Luo gave a loud, disgusting, squelchy sniff before talking.
"Hello, Detective," he said into the phone, "how can I help you today?"
"Officer Luo," Xiajun said with utter seriousness. "I've called to ask for updates."
"Ahh. . ." came the reply. "About the girl, that is?"
"Yes. "
There was some static shuffling on the other end of the line, but Xiajun just suspected Officer Luo was coughing and wiping his nose with a tissue. When he came back, he sounded much clearer.
"We've just checked on the girl, and I think she's asleep. Though she does keep tossing and turning and occasionally kicks the wall and grunts like nobody's business-" he laughed hoarsely "-but otherwise she's doing fine."
Xiajun sighed impatiently. "It would be foolish for me to care about that. Tell me about the blood match."
