Gladys widened her eyes, then blinked as she lowered her gaze. "I'm sorry, Charlos. I've been rude to you all this time. You must be hated me."
"I don't hate you," Charlos snapped. It's okay if he lies a little.
"Is that true?" Gladys looked up.
Charlos nodded. Gladys smiled faintly. "Thank you."
"You don't need to thank me." Charlos shook his head as he straightened himself.
"That woman must be very lucky," said Gladys. Charlos was silent. He wondered who the woman Gladys was talking about. "I've never felt rejected like this. My parents were mad at me, my relationship with Gavin wasn't like any other twin, Larry left me, and you rejected me too. Everyone hates me."
"Not really." Charlos denied. "You don't know that my mother likes you so much."
"Oh really?" asked Gladys weakly. Her voice didn't sound excited.
"Yes. She hasn't stopped promoting you over and over to me."
