When Arlen and Olivia arrived at the infirmary they were quickly reunited with Caleb and Laia.
—What happened?
—Charles came in with Leo. Charles challenged Kevin in an official match that was evenly matched, but Charles took something and suddenly gained a ton of strength and it's like he improved the use of his ability as well. Now Kevin is injured in a shoulder and a leg.
Caleb told them very quickly before Brand appeared from behind a door.
—I thought I said not to say anything.
Caleb swallowed and ducked his head. But Brand smiled.
—It's all right, but don't do it anymore. I don't want the news to spread among the students.
Caleb nodded.
—Brand, can I see Kevin?
Brand stepped to the side of the door, clearing the way.
—Of course.
Arlen and the rest went inside. Kevin was sleeping, but they saw his bandaged left shoulder and right leg.
—Will he recover?
—From what the nurse said, yes. Although he will have discomfort and won't be able to move the same.
Arlen looked angrily and helplessly at Kevin for not knowing what to do at that moment.
"Arlen, use your new ability."
'Phoenix tears?'
"That's right."
'Will it do any good?'
"It won't even leave a mark, and you won't have to worry about the hassle afterward."
'And do I do it here in front of everyone?'
"Whatever you want."
Arlen thought about it and decided not to do it for the time being. If he could do it now, nothing could stop him from doing it later as well.
Brand left for a faculty meeting, not without first making them promise not to say anything. Brand trusted them, though.
When Arlen told Olivia he would invite her another day for dinner she seemed to get a little upset, but agreed and went to her room with Laia. Then only the roommates were left.
—I thought Charles was going to get me.
—Me too.
There was a slightly awkward silence between the two of them when Caleb decided to speak.
—I should have done something to stop it. I knew coming from the Kings there must have been cheating, but I didn't expect that. I'm sorry.
—Don't apologize, I'm the one who should apologize. He stepped in to defend me and that's why he was targeted by Charles.
From the bed, Kevin had heard that and didn't know why it bothered him. They didn't need to be blamed, they shouldn't be.
—It's neither one's fault. If I was stronger, faster, I wouldn't be here. I got in the middle of you and Charles in the dining room because I wanted to, I took the fight because I wanted to, it's nobody's fault, so stop saying that, smile at me, talk to me and go to your room and go to sleep.
Arlen and Caleb were surprised to hear Kevin but then laughed. They were glad Kevin was like that. After a while of talking Caleb decided to leave.
—Are you coming?
—No, I'm staying with him a little longer.
Arlen told him, and Caleb left leaving the two of them alone.
—Kevin, can I make you a proposition?
Kevin knew Arlen wanted something so he decided to listen.
—Tell me.
—I think I have a way to heal your wounds, but you can promise me you won't tell anyone.
Then Kevin was surprised. He didn't expect that from Arlen.
—If you have a way to heal me, why are you keeping it a secret?
—Because it would get me into a lot of trouble.
—And you trust me that much? We've only known each other for a couple of days.
Arlen swallowed.
—I've been alone for a long time, and since I met you these days I've considered you friends, I don't want to lose you. And besides, you want to get even with Charles, don't you?
Kevin was slightly surprised to hear Arlen, but he was actually quite happy.
—Okay. For the record, I like you too.
Arlen smiled as he walked over to Kevin's shoulder.
—I'm going to take off your bandage.
Then suddenly a message appeared in front of Arlen.
[Tears:
Use your Phoenix tears to heal all of Kevin's wounds.
Reward:
2 Bloodline Power points]
Arlen smiled as he read what appeared before his eyes.
—With that smile, I don't know if you're really going to fix me or what you're going to do with my shoulder.
Arlen realized what he had just done and became serious about removing the bandages from Kevin's arm. When he saw the wound he saw how the wound went from side to side and that it was a rather more serious wound than Arlen expected.
'Edgar, will I be able to heal this?'
"Don't worry, but tell him it will hurt a little bit."
Arlen held out a rag that lay on the edge of Kevin's bed.
—Put it in his mouth. It might hurt a little.
Kevin looked fearfully at the rag and decided to do as he was told and shut his eyes tightly.
Arlen really hoped that what he was going to do would work. After taking a few breaths he calmed down and let out the first tear. As soon as he touched the flesh Kevin began to bite down hard on the rag, but Arlen could see the bone, muscle, sinew, and skin being pulled back together with the tears he released.
—Impressive —he muttered without realizing it.
—What happened?
—Try to move your shoulder.
When Kevin moved the shoulder without pain and without any complications he was overjoyed. The process was a little painful and seemed to burn rather than heal him, but he really was as good as new.
—How?
—It's one thing that since I woke up I feel I can do. Like a sixth sense that told me I could do it.
Kevin was surprised but very happy.
—But now what are you going to say tomorrow when they see that you are totally healed?
—Don't worry about that, I'll say anything. Can you fix my leg too?
Arlen wasn't sure, but he hadn't already healed his shoulder, it would be strange if only one wound had healed.
—Come on, don't move, and put the towel over your mouth. I don't want anyone to come because you're screaming.
—Yes, yes.
Arlen removed Kevin's bandages and they went through the same thing as before. When Caleb finished Caleb got up, ran, and jumped up. He didn't feel a hint of the wound that had been there. When he was sure he wasn't in any trouble he approached Arlen.
—You are my brother, I am your brother. Thank you, I owe you my life.
Arlen was a little surprised to hear that, but he was pretty amused by the way he said it.
—Come on, shut up. You stay here and I'll go to my room, I still have to eat dinner. I'll see you tomorrow in class.
—Of course. See you tomorrow.
When Arlen left and Kevin was alone he was still smiling. He was very happy to have met Arlen, although he was a pretty mysterious guy with all that stuff about healing him and not telling anyone, he didn't care about that. He would keep the secret and be a person forever indebted to him. And if he had no family he was sure he could join the Wolf family, which protected his family. Thinking about it Kevin fell asleep imagining Arlen and him going on adventures and being explorers.
Elsewhere in the academy, the director was preparing together with the directors of the 5 departments and with the help of some teachers some general measures to stop the spread of the drug before it was too late.
—Mainly two departments have to be controlled. The science department, where it could be created, and the combat department, which are the most likely to use it. But don't let your guard down in the other departments, I don't want to have any family pressuring the Academy because we don't know how to take care of the children.
Luca was addressing everyone as the director of the academy.
—According to Brand, the one who took the drug probably received it from the King's heir, how are we going to stop that without him taking it as an offense?
—We are not going to go after him openly, but with those who have contact with him. But it's true that we're not 100% sure it's him.
Krist replied to a second-year teacher.
After a dead-end discussion, the meeting came to an end and everyone left, but with a similar thought: 'The first day of school and they already had problems, it looked like this year was not going to be easy.
