As he approached the crowd Arlen could see how 5 people were facing each other. Well, more than facing each other, the term would be looking at each other. Between the 5 of them they formed a circle with their followers behind them.
—Who are they?
—You don't know?
A boy next to me who was watching the scene just like Arlen seemed quite surprised.
—They are the heirs of the 5 families. Well, some are not the first heir, but some brother, but that doesn't take away from the importance that those 5 people have, they are the future of humanity.
"So those children are big shots eh. Analyze them Arlen, it's important to know the names of the important people around you."
The first one he used it on was a girl with dark black hair, green eyes and very fair skin. Arlen thought she was a beauty.
[Olivia Wolf.
Awaken state: Novice]
The next one was a boy we could have as the ideal boy. A little taller than the rest, blond, blue-eyed and strong. Plus, add to that he's one of the heirs, he sure has an easy life.
[Leo King.
Awaken state: Veteran]
Next to him was another boy with tousled black hair, dark eyes and small. From his clothes you can't tell he's one of the heirs.
[Schrott Ergaster.
Awaken state: Novice]
Next was another girl. She had darker skin and dark hair. She has the physique of what you can call a sexy girl.
[Scarlett Moon.
Awaken state: Novice]
The last one was a boy and to Arlen he was the most striking. He had white hair and skin. Pure black eyes and well marked features. But what struck Arlen the most was that he looked sad.
[Caleb White.
Awaken state: Veteran]
"Certainly with their presence, except for a couple, you couldn't tell they're heirs. They look more like just any kids."
Arlen could only agree with what Edgar was saying.
—As sexy as ever Scarlett.
—As disgusting as ever Schrott.
They were both giving each other hateful looks and you could tell the tension was rising by the minute.
—Guys, relax, it's your first day, there's no need to beat each other up on the first day.
Leo tried to mediate between the two. At some point he could hear comments from girls, and some guys, saying how handsome and great he was.
At that moment Caleb turned around and was heading the other way.
—You're leaving tiger, just when things were getting good.
Caleb didn't even look back when Schrott tried to provoke him. He went in the direction of Arlen, who watched him walk with an air of loneliness and sadness he knew well.
'How could someone of such high rank be this sad?'
"You won't know until you ask him, but maybe that life of luxury and grandeur you imagine is more complicated than it seems."
Arlen stared at Caleb's back with interest.
A while later the heirs had separated and everything was back to normal, more or less.
—It looks like the district has started to fill up.
"Well, there's thirty minutes until the test starts. Maybe you should get closer. And, by the way, you have an unplaced point, add it somewhere."
—Suggestions?
"I don't think adding it would make much difference, maybe, strength?"
And Arlen followed what Edgar told him.
[Strong: 12]
[Agility: 11]
[Stamina: 11]
And they were walking through the crowd until they reached the building they told him about. Inside there were already a lot of people, among them the heirs except for the tall blond, Leo King.
Arlen sat at the end of the room waiting and the truth is that he was more nervous than he expected. All his life he had had a terrible time because of people for not awakening his bloodline, and so far nothing had happened because no one recognized him, but he was nervous.
What if someone from his school came in and recognized him? Was he going to go through the same hell he went through at school?
Arlen began to tremble and break out in cold sweats from nerves. He just wanted what happened in the past not to happen again.
"Calm down, this is just beginning, and, besides, if someone does something to you you can pay them back in the future."
After that they were both talking for a while about what the school would be like or what it would be like to live here until a couple of people entered the room. A slightly older man with glasses who must have been over six feet tall and almost three feet wide was quite imposing, he was followed by a young blonde girl who looked like a noodle next to him.
—Good students. I am the director of the combat department of the academy. My name is Krist. The person following me is of no interest to you. There seems to be quite a few applications to this department again so it might take a while for the whole process. On the paper, under the building and the time, there should be a number that goes from 1 to 300, it is in the order you will be taking the test and it is randomly placed, so no criticism from anyone. The people with the first 5 numbers will pass. When you finish the tests you will go directly to the other side. This girl will simply watch that you enter in the correct order and prevent you from killing each other. I don't think there is any doubt with what I just said.
—You are rather disrespectful aren't you?
The one who had answered him was one of the heirs, Schrott. Krist looked at him and turned and walked out the door without answering him. Covering the door stood the blonde girl.
—You have heard, those of you who have 1 to 5 on the paper, please step forward.
Several people stood up, among them Schrott who approached the blonde girl.
—Why don't you let me pass, pretty girl. I don't want to wait that long.
What happened next was a movement that no student could follow, but right away Schrott flew to his chair.
—If you don't have the right number I recommend you stay away from me, you scum.
The whole room fell silent. That woman had just hit one of the heirs of the 5 families. In the middle of that silence, a laugh began to resound.
—That's what you get for being stupid.
Scarlett approached the blonde woman and handed her paper. At the sight of it the guard stepped back and let her pass.
—That snake...
The room was still silent from what had just happened and everyone could hear what Schrott was saying. When he noticed the silence in the room he turned around to look at the others and gave them a look of hatred.
—Do I have something on my back?!
Then everyone reacted and everyone went back to their own business. Arlen looked down at the paper and saw that the number 177 was written on it, and when he saw it he leaned back in his chair as he snorted, he had a long wait.
As time went on people seemed to relax more. Each group was called 5 to 10 minutes after the previous group had passed. Although there was an attempt at a fight by someone who had a high number and wanted to get a low one quickly, the situation calmed down. By the time two hours had passed some were asleep, others were talking among themselves, but the situation was quite calm. I finally got through after 4 hours, it was after 9 pm.
When Arlen walked through the door he was greeted by an almost lightless sky typical of the hour it was. Next to him were a girl and a boy he didn't know, and the other two of the heirs, Olivia and Caleb. In his head Edgar was laughing at him.
"No skill, no bloodline and you get to stand next to two of the heirs. You get to make a fool of yourself in a big way."
'You know Edgar, right now I wish I could punch you.'
But the laughter in his head wouldn't stop. Then before the 5 appeared someone Arlen knew very well.
—Well, I'm Brand and I'm in charge of the first exam.
