Blazer ran after Bilph who was so full of himself as they ran through the city each trying to land a blow, sometimes Blazer would commit swerving to the left and Bilph would slow down and move to the right and dodge. The two ran out of the town momentarily then circled back, Blazer was finally able to land a punch sending Bilph skidding on the ground. Before Bilph could recover, Blazer slammed into his face with his knee sending him through a building. Bilph stood up quickly and ran away as Blazer searched for him, Bilph landed a surprise attack from behind punching him twice in the back, Blazer turned around and was then kicked in the back flying into a coffee shop. Blazer ran after the demon as their battle moved from one place to another in the blink of an eye trading blows until they stood on the tallest building in the town and starred at each other.
"I do say mortal, you have given me a run for my money, but this ends here" Bilph said.
Blazer chuckled at his words finding everything amusing.
"You dare laugh in front of death?"
"It's been a while since I enjoyed a good fight against a fellow speedster, but now it's time for me to take off my training wheels" Blazer said with the flames on his body blazing aggressively.
"What are you talking about?" Bilph said confused.
"Let's make one thing clear, the only person dying here today, is you" Blazer said pointing at him.
Bilph grunted and ran, he ran as fast as his legs could carry him and turned around to see if Blazer was there but there was no sign of him, he smirked and faced forward only to see Blazer running backwards in front of him.
"You thought you were fast? You have no idea how low you are on the speed table" Blazer said before disappearing from his sight.
Even though Bilph was moving fast, he was not quick enough to react to Blazer running in from the side and landing a blow in his face. Bliph shook it off still trying to run away as Blazer landed an uppercut from his front sending him to the ground. As the demon still tried to stand up, Blazer landed two blows from each side then went at Bilph head on punching him in the gut and lifted him off the ground then landed three more blows in quick succession. The demon landed with his back to the ground totally outclassed by the flaming speedster, Blazer appeared in front of him as he tried to get up. The speedster picked him up from the ground landing four blows form different angles and sent him to the ground.
"How can this be, I dominated you from the start" Bilph said outraged.
"The tougher the opponent, the stronger I become. You are fast, but not fast enough" Blazer said as a fireball appeared in his right palm.
"No, this can't be happening. I am the fastest!" Bilph cried.
"There is a clear difference in our speed Bilph. It's simply the case of me being fast, and you're just slow" Blazer said in a cold voice.
"NOOOO!!!!" Bilph yelled trying to run at Blazer.
Even his attempt was slow with Blazer seeing it coming and simply punched him in the chest causing an explosion. Demon parts fell from the sky with Bilph's head landing on a car.
Gears got out from the rubble with his systems down to forty percent functionality.
"Systems at forty percent sir" his AI said.
"That's not good" Dave said standing up slowly as the lights on his suit began to blink. "Engage self-repair systems and give me a view on what's going on"
"Self-repair systems offline" she reported.
"Damn it!" Dave said angrily. "Then tell me what's available"
"Thrusters, proton cannon, and plasma cannon sir"
"I might as well be dead" he said.
A demon ran at him from the front, his systems alerted him, and Dave reacted adequately shooting the demon down. He used his left hand to hold his stomach as he began to fly up slowly.
"Sir it appears that portals have begun to appear world wide"
A display of different major cities like London, Paris, Moscow, Abuja, Cape Town, Brussels.
"How can this be?" Dave said worried.
"Heads up guys, the portals have gone global" He announced across their ear buds.
"How's that possible?" Wave said with a grunt as he stood up from rubble.
"The demon I battled said something about diviners chanting to make the portals go global" Blazer said.
"So how do we get them?" Frosty said splitting a demon in half.
"There is a way, but I need to be still for a while" Slade said standing up from a crushed car.
"Don't worry Slade, I got your back" Maverick said landing next to him.
"And so will I" Violet said appearing from an alley behind them in black jeans and wore a black jacket to cover herself up.
Slade nodded and sat in the middle of the street with crossed legs and took in a deep breath before closing his eyes. Suddenly, Gracko felt what he was trying to accomplish and needed to stop him.
"Demons, don't let him find our diviners!" Gracko commanded.
Demons ran towards Slade with only Violet and Maverick for protection.
"Guys, I'm on my way" Gears said flying over.
Just five blocks out, his thrusters gave up and he dropped to the ground like a tin can.
"Damn it" Dave said as his systems reported his thruster failure.
"Need a hand?" Wave said offering hsi hand to him.
Gears held on to it and he was lifted up.
"I guess that means both of us are grounded" Wave said.
"Your thrusters are out too?"
Wave nodded. "And my power is down to thirty five percent as well"
"That's not good" Gears said.
"Our only option now is finding a building that we could use to shoot down demons" Wave suggested.
Gears nodded and the two decided to head to the Church ahead that was the only building untouched.
Maverick held the horns of a demon and broke them off then punched him with one then punched another away. Violet picked up Slade's sword and used it to protect him even though Blazer ran past them every once in a while.
"They never give up do they" Frosty said stabbing a demon in the back the twirling around to split a head in half.
Violet spun on Slade's sword and kicked a demon in the shoulder, then got of it to chop of the legs of two demons.
"This Blade is something else" Violet remarked slicing through the chest of one.
Maverick headbutted one then clapped on the head of another killing it. He grabbed one by the leg and used him like a bat hitting others clear then flew up to a giant one and punched it three times to the head then stopping the punch of another and flinging him into the path of two. Blazer sped behind Violet landing multiple blows to the back of one demon then ran past four more delivering punches to them. Frosty guarded the street behind them stopping demons from progressing any further with his creation. Violet got caught out from the back as she engaged one demon only for it's head to explode.
"Don't forget us" Wave said as he and Gears shot down demons from the top of the church building.
"Great work guys" Blazer said punching a demon into a building.
Maverick held a demon by the wings and threw him at another, more demons came at him from the front, and he punched them away before slamming one into the ground.
"No, no, no, stop the Slayer, stop the SLAYER!!!" Gracko screamed as his forces couldn't advance any further.
"I've got it" Slade said opening his eyes and standing up. "They're on the Solomon Islands" Slade reported.
"We need to get there quickly, half of the world already have portals and if this keeps up for five more minutes, the whole world will be lost" Gears said.
"Then who's going?" Violet asked giving Slade's sword back to him.
"Who else" Blazer said.
"Then get there" Violet said.
"But what about you guys?" he said with concern.
"Don't worry about us" Slade said. "I can handle Gracko and the others can still buy some time"
Blazer nodded and got into a sprinter's position as they got ready to run. Violet and Slade moved away from there going to the headquarters as Maverick covered the sky, Frosty took the big targets and the boys in suits shoot anything supernatural.
"Come on Blazer you can do this; the whole world is counting on you" he said as parts of his suit began to glow and the fire on his shoulders and hair returned.
"You have to go super-fast Blake, faster than you've ever gone before" Blazer said as fire began to swirls around him.
"For mom...for dad...for the world....you have to go fast..." he said with the flames now ten feet high and began to melt things around him.
A whirring sound was heard around him and any demon that tried to get to him got burnt to a crisp.
"Faster than Oxmus" he said as the intensity of the flames increased and his eyes began to glow brightly.
"Do it now Blazer!" Frosty yelled.
Blazer took in a deep breath and launched himself forward, his take off produced huge cracks in the ground, shattered windows, doors, shook buildings and more, a sonic boom. Blazer moved faster and faster with every stride; time slowed considerably as he moved covering thousands of miles. The diviners sensed something was coming but didn't realize how imminent the threat was. Blazer charged up energy in his right fist as it began to glow brightly as he ran, he was on the island in two minutes thirty seconds leaving a trail of fire in his wake. With that he had clocked his top speed. He spotted the building they were in and ran straight into it and punched down in the center of the building releasing all his energy in one go and that was it for them. His energy incinerated everything apart from him in a two-hundred-meter radius.
As soon as he did that, portals around the world began to close up stopping demons from entering the world anymore. Immediately other portals opened up in the sky and Angels began to fly out of them.
"You don't say" Frosty said seeing them as they flew down.
Maverick slapped one demon away and looked up to see the Angels swooping down to clear out the other demons and began to restore everything back to normal.
"Wooohooooo" Wave yelled raising up his arms in victory.
"No, they're ruining everything" Gracko said running through the streets trying to avoid the Angels.
"Guess demons aren't that good at planning after all" A cold voice said from the darkness.
"I'll kill you Slade even if it's the last thing I do" Gracko said as his sword emerged.
Slade ran towards him as the two clashed blades, their weapons clashed repeatedly with Slade gaining the upper hand in Gracko's loss of confidence. Slade hit Gracko's sword out of his way and twirled slicing Gracko in the gut. Gracko went for wild slashes snipping a strand of Slade's hair as he went under the blade.
"Your fighting reeks of fear" Slade said sidestepping his swing and cutting him on the shoulder. "And you can no longer heal. Guess the portals weren't the only thing the diviners were keeping up"
"Why you" Gracko slashed at him, and Slade deflected his blade and sliced his knees putting him on the ground.
"I thank you Gracko for one thing, this battle with you has made me stronger. With my increase in strength, comes your end" Slade said.
"I will have your head Slayer!" Gracko yelled.
He used the last of his strength to run at Slade who had his back turned to him, the Slayer smiled and the sound of slashes were heard and Slade was now facing the other way. He put his sword in its sheath and multiple cuts appeared on Gracko as he fell into bits and pieces.
"It's over" Slade said.
The team regrouped in the town square with everyone present except Maverick and Violet, Blazer had raced back to the city to see how everything went down only to be a second late as the Angels had cleaned everything including the bodies up.
"Hey, aren't you staying?" Maverick asked landing gently behind her.
"No, my mission is done here" she answered as her bike arrived behind her.
"I thought you would like to hang back and celebrate?"
"No, people aren't my strong suit and I prefer to work alone" she answered mounting her bike.
"Okay, well if you do ever need a team to help you out. We will be there"
"I appreciate the gesture, but I'm not sure that would ever happen" she said wearing her helmet.
Without a word, she zoomed off back to Austin. Maverick flew back to the others so that they could decide on the next course of action.
"Where's Violet?" Gears asked as Max landed.
"She took off" Maverick replied.
"Okay, so I guess this is it then" Gears said.
"I did enjoy working among heroes, it's a great change of pace for me" Slade said.
"Yes, working with people like me didn't make me feel alone anymore" Maverick added.
"How I wish this was permanent" Wave said.
"Well why don't we, it would be a shame to let the greatest team up in history go to waste" Blazer said.
"If it's okay with you guys, I'm in" Wave said.
"I don't have a problem with that" Slade said.
"Neither do I" Maverick added.
"If my brother is in, I guess you have my vote as well" Frosty said.
"It would be a shame to be a kill joy, so I guess I'm in as well" Gears said.
"Hell Yeah!" Blazer cheered.
From behind them, someone began to slow clap.
"Show yourself" Maverick said taking an aggressive tone and switching to Infared vision seeing five heat signatures.
Everyone was prepared to engage.
"Hold your horses, I mean you no harm" a voice said having the voice of an old man.
A bald man with an average build and grey goatee walked out of the shadows accompanied by four bodyguards. He wore a black and white suit and had a stern look.
"Who are you?" Gears asked.
"I am John Walter, head of the Hero Association, popularly known as H.A" he stated.
"To what do we owe this visit?" Slade asked.
"Well, with your involvement in this demon war, I couldn't help but make an appearance myself" he said.
"Someone of your ranking wouldn't bother coming to a place like this, there must be something more to it" Frosty said.
"My mother always said I was a terrible liar. I came here to stop one thing and one thing alone, the coming together of the strongest non-Hero Association members and from the looks of it, I have failed" John said.
"Why would you want to prevent that?" Blazer asked.
"For starters, we wouldn't know of your whereabouts or keep tabs on you and seeing the leaders we have, it would make the world feel uncomfortable" he answered.
"At first, I put our starlet Violet among you and seeing how things went, I pulled her back"
"Wait a minute, you mean you're the one that made Violet leave?" Maverick said.
"Yes, she is under H.A and must bark whenever I tell her too but don't worry, she was never a good fit for the team. She has always been a loner"
"Well now that you've pulled out your eyes and ears from the team what are you going to do?" Wave asked.
"Don't worry, I'll send in another" John said turning his back and walking into the the darkness.
"That reminds me" he said stopping as light touches the heel of his shoes. "What's the name of this team called?"
"We haven't decided on a name yet" Gears said.
"Sure we have" Blazer said.
"When did we?" Slade said confused.
"I just came up with it now and it sounds pretty cool"
"Alright speedster, out with it. I haven't got all day" J.W (John Walter) said.
"We are Legion"
