Chapter 1 - Dead flowers

It's 3 in the morning. The silence was his escape. He is insomniac since the day his mother breathed her last breath. It has been almost 20 years since she passed away but he still feels like the truth is something else. He was a really happy kid when his mother was alive. Orchids were her favorite flowers and he used to buy them for her by saving his pocket money in his small piggy bank. He looks at his vase, there were some orchids. Those look as fresh as his mother's face the last time he saw her. But now, she only lives in his memories. Fresh and alive.

"Jayant, wake up! Babu, open the damn door!", his father says while banging the door.

"Huss buwa, I'm coming in a minute. Please wait for me in the living room. I just woke up and I need to have a shower at first.", Jayant replies in a hoarse voice.

It was Jayant's first day in Norvic hospital as a junior neuro-surgical resident. Jayant Pratap Ranabhatt is a junior resident doctor who got accepted for his residency (MD neurology) in a very reputed hospital named Norvic hospital. His father, Mr.Prakash Pratap Ranabhatt, is a real estate entrepreneur who's actively involved in the country's top real estate agency. Jayant's mother was Prof.Dr.Shakuntala Khadka Ranabhatt, an orthopedic surgeon and a beloved mother of two kids.

Jayant's father waits for him in the living room calmly sipping his tea and watches his elder son get ready to leave the home for hospital. Mr.Prakash Pratap Ranabhatt has two sons. Dr.Proktam Pratap Ranabhatt is his elder son. He's a cardiologist and is still on his fellowship year. Proktam is a responsible and talented person. His father is always proud of him. Mr.Prakash's younger son is Dr.Jayant Pratap Ranabhatt. He's a junior resident in Norvic hospital. Mr.Prakash is always worried for Jayant as he knows his son is a little stubborn and emotionally drained. Jayant was a very happy and warm soul when he was a kid. A lot of things changed after the tragic and sudden demise of his mother.

"Buwa, I'm leaving. Have a nice day buwa." says Jayant right after he comes down and proceeds to go.

"Babu, have some breakfast and leave for the hospital. Otherwise, you'll have acidity. Please have some breakfast at first.", his father suggests him.

"Buwa, it's already getting late. I don't want to be called as "non-punctual brat doc" right on my first day of attending.", Jayant continues and annoyingly sighs.

Mr.Prakash persists him to have atleast sweet yogurt for starting the day as a sweet and good one.

"May you be blessed by all the success you deserve my Chhora.", Mr.Prakash proudly states.

"Thank you Buwa. Take care of yourself and please please, try to control your temptation to smoke. I really don't want to lose you, after all, you're the only one we both brothers can look upto.", Jayant replies in a sad voice.

Mr.Prakash nods his head in an agreement and waves goodbye to his son.

"What a beautiful and cheerful child he was. Shakuntala please come back. Jayant needs you, we need you. Our son has forgotten how to smile. He's still lost after you went away.", Mr.Prakash cries and continues to talk in front of Shakuntala's portrait hanging in the living room.
