The sun stood high with its piercing rays falling directly onto the rough blankets stained red with the blood of the corpses it covered. Beneath the sheets lied not the ones who had fallen but the ones who once stood tall.
The mob surviving the night had gathered to pay their respects, but their expressions said quite otherwise. The people harboring a spectrum of emotions stood there with void expressions. They looked all too familiar with the scenario, nonchalant with dried tears they stood there waiting for it all to get over with.
There was sorrow but no rage, the fists were clenched but had no weight, a dreadful gaze was all that had remained for the ones whose fate still awaits.
The people had gathered on one of the floating masses of land which had been used as a burial ground now for a long time. Engraved with tombstones all over the place, withered away from rain, there were a few tombstones with blossoming flowers the stones were as if they had been cleaned recently, while the other were covered in dust beneath the parched petals.
Graves were dug and the people were waiting for the elders to begin the burial ceremony.
There was a small mansion on the burial ground where the elders were at this point of time.
[Inside the mansion]
The elders were seated on chairs surrounding a burning furnace that was keeping the room lit. The chairs were at an optimal distance from the fire near the edges of the room.
"So, you are insisting on burning the corpses instead of burying them," said Haldem.
"Yes, that's right, we cannot afford to make the same mistake again", replied Heath.
"I get what are you're trying to say Heath, but we cannot abandon our way of living just like this", said Adil.
"People won't accept this easily either", commented Walt.
"Nothing can stay the way it was after the fall, we adapted in order to survive, and we'll have to do the same again as many times the need be! " commented Vilson.
"I get what you're trying to say but--", said Steve, but was interrupted in the middle.
"If another necromancer like that appears, we would be drawing swords against our dead comrades!", said Nord in an agitated tone.
"But-" said Steve but was again interrupted.
"They are right', said Haldem " It would be wiser to burn the corps," he continued.
"Then let's vote for it, the ones in favor of burning the corps raise their hands," said Adil.
HALDEM, WALT, ADIL, FLUKE along with Nord, Heath, Lark and Vilson raised their hands.
"It's decided then, I'll let the people know," said Adil as he stood up and walked out from the room.
