Chapter 22 - The Last Lair

Thomas' original plan was to recover the entire town, but now, the Goddess of Life had assigned him a related mission.

He could earn an extra reward for every mission. It was awesome.

Thomas stood up from the altar.

He led everyone to search the other directions of the town.

A level 3 Blood Spike trap had been set up in front of the temple. For a moment, he was not worried that the dark creatures would occupy the place again.

Thomas put on the armor that the Goddess of Life had given him.

The armor was very light. It was like wearing a piece of cloth on his body. It did not feel heavy at all.

In order to test the sturdiness of the armor, Thomas asked O'Neill to cut him a few times.

In the end, even if O'Neill tried his best, he was unable to break through Thomas' armor.

In fact, not even a trace could be left behind.

'As expected, it's the armor that the Goddess rewarded. Its power is extraordinary,' Thomas thought happily.

After dealing with these matters, Thomas led everyone to continue searching in the town.

There were still some dark creatures left in the town, but they were all weak and lonely dark creatures.

Such as lame Goblins, Skeleton Soldiers with broken arms, and so on.

They were all hiding in the houses and struggling to survive.

Facing these guys, Thomas didn't even bother to make a move and directly asked O'Neill to solve the problem.

After spending half a day, Thomas checked most of the areas in the town.

He also cleared out all the dark creatures he met.

Now, there was only one building left that had not been searched. It was the windmill located at the edge of the town.

At the edge of the town, there was a huge windmill. The huge windmill was spinning non-stop. It looked no different from usual.

However, Thomas felt that as soon as he got close to this huge windmill, he had a strange feeling. In the dark, a feeling guided him and told him that there was definitely a dark creature hiding here.

However, it was still unknown what kind of dark creature it was.

"O'Neill, lead the way in front. Be careful. If It's a powerful enemy, retreat immediately," Thomas warned carefully.

"Don't worry, Sir Thomas. I will definitely investigate the situation inside."

O'Neill led the way in front, and everyone carefully entered the windmill.

The structure of the windmill was very simple. There was a huge millstone in front of them, followed by some winches that connected the gears of the windmill. There was also a spiral staircase that led to the upper level. Other than that, there was nothing else.

"Sir Thomas, there are no traces of dark creatures." O'Neill checked around, but did not find any valuable clues.

Arya was in the same situation.

"Yes, let's go to the second floor and take a look." Thomas felt that after entering the windmill, the strange feeling not only didn't weaken, but also increased.

He believed that there had to be dark creatures hiding in this windmill.

The few of them carefully climbed up the stairs.

Second floor, third floor, fourth floor.

In order to facilitate maintenance, the mill was divided into several floors.

However, each floor was empty. Apart from the transmission rod, there was nothing else.

The group arrived at the top floor.

Here, they finally made some discoveries.

There was a bed, a table, a chair, a wooden cabinet, and some daily necessities. Obviously, someone had lived here before. Perhaps it was the residence of the mill watchman.

"Sir Thomas, this is the top floor. There is nothing here. Could it be that there were dark creatures living here before, but they ran away?" O'Neill said from the side.

"No, they must still be here." Thomas shook his head.

Although the feeling had weakened a little, it did not disappear. Thomas was sure that those dark creatures were still hiding in a corner of the windmill.

Thomas scanned every corner of the room, trying to find traces of the dark creatures.

Suddenly, his gaze fell on a cabinet in the corner.

This cabinet was less than a meter tall and very small. They had previously ignored it.

Thomas rushed over and pulled open the wooden door of the cabinet.

There was an old blanket stuffed inside. It did not look any different.

Just as Thomas was about to close the cabinet door, he noticed that the blanket had moved.

"Huh?"

Thomas' eyes lit up. He grabbed the blanket and yanked it out.

The shabby blanket was pulled down, revealing a little girl.

The little girl was only eleven or twelve years old. She was thin and wore a shabby linen dress. Her long golden hair was tied up in braids.

The little girl hugged her knees and curled up. Her big blue eyes were staring at the crowd in fear. Her body could not help but tremble.

"Is this a dark creature?" Thomas was a little curious.

"I don't smell the dirty smell from her body." O'Neill shook his head.

"I don't feel the evil aura from her body either." Arya also testified from the side.

"In other words, this is a human?" Thomas still believed in O'Neill and Arya's intuition.

As summoned warriors, they were born to fight against evil dark creatures, so they naturally had their own way of distinguishing dark creatures.

They would definitely not be mistaken.

After receiving confirmation from both of them, Thomas had already confirmed 70-80% of the little girl's identity.

"Who are you? Why are you hiding here?" Thomas asked as he put away the Holy Light Longsword in his hand.

"You're not dark creatures?" the little girl asked anxiously.

"Don't worry, we're here to hunt dark creatures. See? These are our spoils of war," Thomas said as he took out a few magic cores from his pocket and showed them to the little girl.

Seeing the magic cores in Thomas' hands, the little girl's eyes lit up.

The little girl grabbed Thomas' lapels and asked, "Are you really here to kill those monsters? The kingdom has finally sent reinforcements to save us?"

"You really know these things?" Thomas was a little curious. He thought that the little girl would not know these things.

After all, this was a magic core, a high-level strategic material. In the main city, ordinary civilians might not even have seen this thing.

"Yes. Although I don't know what it is, those monsters seem to drop these things after they die. I saw Uncle Duncan smash a monster to death with a hammer, and a similar thing fell out of those monsters. So, you must be here to kill the monsters."

The little girl looked excited.
