That night things were quiet in the house. Glory was contently sleeping on Annas bed and Anna felt at peace in knowing she was at least somewhat safe from Andrew now. Those thoughts allowed her to rest peacefully not just that night, but for several weeks.
The next day Anna was again called out of school by her mother. When she tried to question why, she found talking to be hard and hurt. Alexia shook her head. "I called you out again today, and for the rest of this week so you could have a few more days of healing before going back to school. Tomorrow is only Wednesday, so the secretary is going to gather all of your weeks assignments and send them home for you when your dad goes to pick up Andrew. If there are any tests, then they will send a note with makeup dates for you as well." Anna nodded. When she tried to speak, she found it hurt and groaned quietly, upset about this fact. Alexia looked at her daughter sympathetically and grabbed the whiteboard off the fridge.
Anna scribbled on the board for a minute before showing the board to her mother. "No, the Family Services worker has not come by yet. John doesn't think they will at all since this could be passed off as sibling rivalry. All we can do is wait and see though." Anna nodded again, staring down at the plate that had appeared in front of her while her mother was talking. There was jello and a small bowl with some tomato soup in it. Things that didn't require chewing at all. Anna was already tired of not being able to chew, despite her jaw only being broken less than 48 hours.
The rest of the week passed uneventfully. The following Monday Anna returned to school, welcomed back by staff and students alike. She was unhappy about not being allowed to go to the vets office with her mom today though since Glory was getting her cast off if the vet thought that the cats leg had healed enough. Soon that was pushed far out of her mind though as the first break of the day came.
As soon as the class bell rang, Anna darted out the classroom door, trying to make it to the bathroom before her brother could make it down the hall to her class. She had been dreading this all day, knowing that her brother would harass her since her parents weren't around to stop him. As Anna reached the end of the hall and turned the corner, she glanced back, looking for Andrew in the sea of bobbing heads. When she turned back around though, she gasped, finding he was standing right outside the bathroom doors, arms crossed, and his eyes boring straight into her own.
"What did you tell them?"
Anna shook her head.
"Don't lie. I've noticed the way that mom and dad are watching us. I've already found out that I can't get into your room through the door anymore!"
His words sent chills down her spine. Through the door anymore. That meant he would still find ways into her room. That he still intended to violate her. Anna mumbled the best she could "I didn't tell them anything at all. They used a special camera on me in the ER. I swear I didn't say anything. I couldn't even talk Andrew!"
Andrew turned so his body was shielding hers from view and reached up, squeezing her jaw until tears were welling in her eyes and she was biting back a scream of pain. "You better not say anything. Or else I will do more than just use your body for my own pleasure." And with that her brother turned away, striding down the hall like nothing had happened.
