As the sun rose, the sky cleared and the stormed had stopped. The birds chirped, and Madame Lafleur informed Sophia who was sitting in the lobby, still thinking about the case that a boat will arrive at noon from mainland as she sent a message via her falcon to mainland before dawn and two hours later the falcon had returned with this good news. Sophia jolted at what Madame Lafleur said and thought 'at noon, I don't have much time to reveal the identity of the killer, but I do not have much evidence either, huh?' Sophia suddenly noticed the crossbow that was on display on the wall was missing and asked Madame Lafleur about it but she said she did not know where it went and it had disappeared from before the corpse of Marianne was found but she did not remember exactly when.
"What's all the fuss in the morning? Why gather all of us here? Isn't the case closed with the killer dead?" asked Anthony while joining the others in the dining hall, "Eh? where's my seat?" he asked and Shia told him to just sit wherever, later Gabriel entered and sat down too. The food was extravagant and Madame Lafleur announced that a boat from mainland will be arriving at noon and it was already half past nine. "With the killer dead, we can enjoy this feat and rest easy!" exclaimed Mathilda while digging in the food like a pig. "The killer is not dead!" announced Sophia all serious. "What do you mean? did we not witness him jump to his death last night?" asked Mathilda who was still stuffing her face. "She, she is right, he jumped to his own death, there is no way he could have survived this!" yelled Anthony. "What if he did not even jump? The footprints was muddy but the edge of the window was clean, and there is no way to jump out without putting a foot on the window edge either. The killer is still alive and is here in this very room." explained Sophia. "But, how can any of us be the killer? How can you explain the missing Mr. Featherington and what about our alibis? We were all here when we heard Elizabeth's scream." shouted Alexander.
"Did the storm cause you to loose your little grey cells Alexander? this was what the killer wanted us to believe, it was all a trick. I will explain those tricks now. Firstly on the stage where Elizabeth was murdered, we saw that the curtains were raised however on examining the glass fragments of the chandelier, it was a straight line and stopped at where the curtain would be when it is down therefore she was killed while the curtains were down. About her scream, it was a tape recording of when she screamed while rehearsing the play and was set with a timer, furthermore when the curtain is down the ones on the stage cannot hear anything from the control room which was proven by a little experiment I did with Mathilda. Therefore Elizabeth was still alive when the scream was heard. and was murdered later when we were all scattered, looking for her, the killer pretending to look for her went to finish her off and joined us innocently afterwards. Frederick was killed by a stab and thrown into the water basin, for that one, none of us has alibis, he was killed at night when we were all sleeping but was supposedly alive in the morning, that was another tape recording, most probably when he once said those exact words to his roommates, that narrows down the suspect to the boys of the drama club as you all stay in the university's dorms. Upon inspecting Frederick's room which was not yet inspected, there were traces of someone being in there, some traces of struggle as well as hemoglobin reaction with luminol, meaning the culprit wiped off the blood hastily from the room, but fortunately I found some luminol in the unused old chemistry lab here. Lai Li probably found the tape recording by accident, and knew who the killer was thus was silenced hastily by the killer, her corpse placed in the chimney and when the candle lights blew off the killer cut the fishing wire he set to make the body fall into the fireplace. to prove that, Lai Li's golden hairpin was found in the control room and there was no cobwebs in the chimney, the fishing wire was found, nearly all burnt here in the fireplace. Marianne had strangling marks as well as fingernail scratches on her neck which proves that the cause of death was strangling by a thin wire and she struggled too. The hint was the hole under her window. The killer most probably called her to look out the window while he was on the roof and the prepared wire noose was what strangled her when the killer pulled it, and kept pulling until the body was hanging on the tree firmly, climbed down into her room, wore her shoes to create footprints walking towards the tree and putting her shoes on her feet while climbing up the tree with the remaining wire, tied it securely and cutting off the excess wire and jumped back in through her window. Only someone who was physically strong enough could pull off that trick, therefore a man, and there were wire marks on the tree trunk as well. And to explain the mystery of Mr. Featherington, the fact that his face was covered with bandages and suddenly disappeared, leaving behind a large suitcase and a trashed room is enough to prove that he did not exist. Our killer came here the day before we did and carried a raft boat in this large suitcase and rowed the raft back to mainland, to give the impression that there was someone else on the island." explained Sophia.
"Then who is the killer? And how do you explain the motive?" asked Professor Phantomhive "The motive is revenge for the death of Helena Fenton. The killer will reveal himself shortly, just wait, in this very room where he planned his final murder, he will show himself." Said Sophia.
Minutes passed, the silence in the room was becoming unbearable, everyone shivered in fear but as when the clock showed 10:00 one of them fell on the ground, as if ducking something. "Our killer finally showed himself, yes the one who killed Elizabeth, Frederick, Lai Li and Marianne is non other but you Gabriel Rosemary. You just proved that yourself by ducking what you thought an arrow being shot. You programmed it to be shot at 10:00 but I already set the clock one hour earlier than the real time and disabled the crossbow you set up. I also deliberately made you sit in Sara-Jane's seat as the names are written at each seat." exclaimed Sophia. "What are you saying? I did not duck, I felt a mouse under my feet so I fell. And besides do you have any other proof to make me the killer?" asked Gabriel. " One you said that Lai Li's corpse fell from the chimney, in fact with all the confusion, we thought that she was with us all the time and killed while being in the room with us, only the killer could have known that she fell from the chimney, two the first person I bumped into while chasing after the phantom was you, you used the corridor's blind spot to remove the costume and throw it away in through the window and came bumping into me pretending to rush towards Judith's room, only you could have done that. Three, you were once a martial champion, which proves your physical abilities. This was a well planned murder but when the yard examines Lai Li's fingernails, there may be traces of your DNA as she struggled when you strangled her bare handed and you got that scratch on your right wrist, that is why you started wearing your hand watch on the right wrist is it not?" Said Sophia.
"Aaahhh, I give up, I thought it was well planned... I was courting Helena secretly, I loved her, and then one day at the hospital we suddenly heard Elizabeth, Marianne and Sara-Jane talking, saying that they were glad Helena did not sell them out for what they did, saying that Helena was only acting kind, but in fact she was a true angel and when her suicide note was read, I knew she wanted revenge, she wanted me to avenge her." explained Gabriel while crying and suddenly taking Sara-Jane as hostage with a dagger in his other hand. "Back off all of you! My revenge is not complete if she is still alive!" screamed Gabriel with determined eyes. "Wait, do not add to your crimes. Helena did not want revenge, remember her note, she said she yearned for heaven and wanted to be purged, that means that she killed herself before her hear became corrupt with the desire of revenge, she did not want you to take revenge at all!" shouted Sophia. On hearing that Gabriel dropped the dagger and ran outside, they all went after him, to find him on the roof. "Get down, Do not do anything reckless!" shouted Professor Phantomhive and Sophia. With tears in his eyes and a beautiful smile Gabriel muttered the words "I am the phantom of the opera, yearning for heaven , where my Christine is but yet cannot go there, only hell is waiting for me for I grew corrupt and lost my soul in the desire and quest for vengeance." He then jumped off the roof and Hayden ran to try to catch him, but it was too late. He was still breathing faintly but was heavily injured. By that time, the boat arrived and they all rushed , carrying Gabriel, hoping they can at least save his life, even if he were to become handicapped.
A week later news came that Gabriel had woken up but he could no longer walk and was sentenced to five years of jail. "Sophia, come here for second." asked Professor Phantomhive, "You see Helena was my cousin and yesterday when we were cleaning her room, I found this, a letter to Gabriel in her drawer." Said Professor Phantomhive. The letter read:
Dear R, my Raoul, my Gabriel,
By the time you read this, I will probably no longer be in this world, but please do not feel saddened, do not bear any grudges against those three for I do not bear any myself. When I heard them talking about that the other day, my heart began to grow corrupt and as ugly as my face however I do not want to let it be fully corrupted by bearing any kind of grudge so I decided to put an end to my life before this happens. So please live well, and do not bear any grudge, live well for my sake.
Yours,
Helena Fenton
"Had he read that letter before going on that island, those irreversible crimes would not have been committed." said Professor Phantomhive sighing. "Can I have that letter Professor? I will go visit Gabriel and deliver it to him, so at least he may not give up on himself again." Asked Sophia. Professor Phantomhive sighed then nodded. That day was the first time Sophia had skipped classes and went off on her own to deliver Helena's will to him.
