"Why… are you so kind to me?"
Bai Shuyin kept her voice stern and hard, no longer keeping up the meek and soft character that was starting to take a toll on her and it wasn't even a day yet. It was sharp and blunt, every word she spoke were as if they were accusations.
If changing her fate was no longer an option, it was better to make the remainder of her life worth it.
Wu Jiangfeng seemed taken aback at the sudden question. A little tint of redness appeared across his cheeks as he tilted his head to the side, violet eyes wandering everywhere but her.
This kind of view was very new towards Bai Shuyin. Such a simple question had rendered him silent.
Wu Jiangfeng scratched the back of his neck, looking even more embarrassed. "Because... maybe… uh…" he stammered, as if lost for words. "Cause you're gorgeous? And... umm... adorable too?"
A top scholar like him? Making him into a stuttering mess at such a simple question? Moreover, was he seriously complimenting her?
"..."
A soft snort came first before a muffled sound followed by, spilled out of Bai Shuyin's tight lips, her shoulder trembling. Wu Jiangfeng frowned, half-wondering what exactly was so funny that made her laugh.
"Are you trying to say that I am pretty and cute?" There was a hint of disbelief floating underneath the light tone voice of Bai Shuyin, still holding back her laugh that made her eyes watered.
"Absolutely. Your eyes shone like the moon in the darkness hour of the night. Your smile is like light rain, obscure and gentle. Your white hair is like snow in the winter, pure and clear. Yin'er is like the wind in the summer, gentle yet cool. To behold such a beautiful self like you— Is Xiao Bai laughing at me?!"
Bai Shuyin couldn't handle the giggle that burst out of her tightly clamped lips, even though she wasn't sure what reason she should be laughing at. Was it due to the fact that he complimented her or his funny-looking embarrassed face?
"Xiao Bai! That's not very kind!" His chiding tone had no bite in it at all. Instead, Wu Jiangfeng sounded playful and vibrant. He was now even laughing along with her, proving how contagious her laugh was.
"Forgive me, Young Master Wu," Bai Shuyin said as she bowed her head, short and sharp breaths escaped her mouth from the continuous laughter. "I have never," Bai Shuyin corrected herself, "I mean, I wasn't expecting to receive such a full blown… flattery remark."
"You don't?" Wu Jiangfeng actually looked withered. "Then these people need to have their eyes gouged out and replaced. Anyway—" He reached out his returned hand to hold hers gently. "Let's walk on and find something to eat!"
The hand holding hers was merely touching as if waiting for Bai Shuyin the choice to either take and follow or pull away and leave. The corner of her lips lifted upwards a millimeter as she didn't hesitate to curl her fingers around the larger one, accepting the invitation. This small action was rewarded with a wide grin that lighted up Wu Jiangfeng's handsome visage where Bai Shuyin returned with one of hers.
Deep down inside her heart, Bai Shuyin knew she had found the perfect golden thigh to hug.

The scene before him made him take a shaky breath. One hand cradling his forehead, the other bloodied one clutching at the damp of his long hair as he breathed coarsely. Wang Heiyue eyed in the opposite direction, fixated on Li Fantong's glowing figure. She was young, looking exactly like the mini version of her adult self.
That… that was once the woman he blindly gave his heart to.
She was the kind of woman that lighted up the atmosphere whenever they were. The one that caught your attention whether you like it or not. The kind that could make you listen to them ramble and talk about nothing but absurdity and you would still find it interesting.
She was the woman that made him give up the entire world solely just for her.
Yet until the very end, he wasn't even the one she yearned for.
He could recall that moment vividly. When all he saw was her and no one else, he was never the one in hers. The day she made that decision, yet in truth, at that moment, Wang Heiyue knew there was never a decision to be made.
Wang Heiyue wanted to hate her, loathe her, however, found himself unable to.
Wang Heiyue slowly lowered himself until he dropped onto his bottom with his back leaning against the dirty wall of bricks. He pulled his legs together, hugging them towards his chest as he watched the blood slowly drilled down his hand to his wrist, the sting coming from the wounds didn't bother him at all.
The thick ruby red liquid stained the white sleeves of his clothes, bringing a smile to his face. "Yin Yin is going to make a fuss…"
Wang Heiyue sighed and leaned the back of his head against the wall. He should be looking for Bai Shuyin, yet the appearance of Li Fantong disrupted his plan. He didn't even want to run into her, didn't even want to look at her, moreover face her. If possible, he hoped he would never encounter her in his second lifetime.
Wang Heiyue nodded like he had just made a very reasonable and promising life-changing choice until—
"Oh my god! Are you okay?"
Wang Heiyue had never snapped his neck so fast that he could practically hear the crack. Twin yellow iris popped right in front of his face, looking worried and frightful like he was on the verge of death's door. Shadow draped over him, long and thin strands of hair tickled the tip of his nose. Gentle and soft hands were cradling his bloodied one.
How did this girl…? What the hell was Li Fantong doing in front of him?! Wasn't she supposed to be—
The young dragon precipitously looked over the girl in front of him to the spot Li Fantong where was supposed to be, only to find it vacant. It was like she had teleported from there to here.
If he wasn't born with the DNA of indefinite swagness, his jaw would have dropped onto the ground.
How could she spot him, someone sitting in the dark alleyway, from that distance? Moreover, why approach him, a nameless stranger? Just because of an injury?
This girl was taking her role as the soft and kind-hearted maiden too far!
All of sudden, his ultimate mission of never ever crossing paths with Li Fantong was completely demolished.
Total failure.
