The people looked at each other before finally saying in unison.
"We only ever drank with Second fool a couple of times, and can't say we were close friends or anything. He called us over today; we thought he was just looking for an excuse to treat us to drinks, so we reluctantly came. We had no idea he had offended you."
Chen Kai silently nodded, but fully disbelieved what they said. However, since they all told the same story, Chen Kai did not wish to probe further.
"Since you've already come, why not sit down and have a drink together?"
The people looked at each other again, feeling a bit hesitant, because they were not sure if there was a place for them in Chen Kai's presence.
Despite Chen Kai's politeness, the fact that they had previously offended him made them afraid of possible retaliation, causing an underlying sense of unease.
Particularly now that they were in front of Chen Kai, some of them were even starting to tremble.
