After experiencing such an incident, none of the students felt like sleeping anymore. They each felt a sense of impending doom, and rechecked everything inside their tents meticulously. Even though they found nothing odd, they could never shake off that restlessness.
Especially the girls, who were constantly worried that a snake might suddenly appear from the darkness and bite them. That would definitely spoil everything.
But night had already set in and after a day's hard toil, they couldn't keep their eyes open and yawns started kicking in.
Eventually, someone took the lead and said,
"I don't care anymore, I'm going to sleep. Anyhow, if I'm destined to die either way, either by snake bite or by just staying awake, might as well choose the comfortable way out."
This person then went into the tent. It's human nature to freeze whenever a sudden mishap occurs. But once someone makes a move, the rest follow suit.
