Gao Ming had originally anticipated that Chen Kai would readily agree to his plan.
However, to his surprise, Chen Kai fell silent for a while, and then gently shook his head. Of course, Gao Ming couldn't see Chen Kai's gesture over the phone, but he could tell from his tone that Chen Kai must have struggled internally before declining.
"I'm afraid I can't go through with that for now," Chen Kai said.
Gao Ming immediately grew anxious. He didn't understand why Chen Kai had declined, and it hadn't been something he had been prepared for.
"Can you tell me what's going on then? I think, based on our relationship and the many favors we've done for each other, refusing to help me on this small matter is unreasonable," Gao Ming said.
With a long sigh, Chen Kai replied: "I knew you would ask that. But could you please calm down for a moment? Your impatience makes it impossible for me to explain patiently."
Gao Ming took several deep breaths, followed by a long sigh.
