Chapter 13 - Chapter 16 Estate development

The Agyeis' paid a visit to the displaced people of Liati Wote and Gbiedi Gbogame that were now living in Accra because of the volcanic eruption. As soon as the people saw them, they began to cry.

"Our treasured mountain oooo….our treasured mountain!"

"We are here to comfort you and to ask what can be done to help?" asked Mr Agyei.

"We want nothing but our treasured mountain back," said the chief who had gathered around the Agyei family with his elders.

"You all know, my chief and elders that no matter how hard we try, we cannot do anything to bring the mountain back. It is gone forever. Even if we wait for a thousand years, we will never have it back." The chief wailed even more, joined fervently by his elders.

"We understand your grief and we know more than anyone else how it has brought you much revenue," said Mr Agyei. "But it does happen." The government representative then opted to take over from Mr Agyei since the people were bent on wailing, hoping they would feel better with some good news.

"My people," he began. "I also come from one of the villages and I heard what happened. I wasn't there myself to ascertain the damage but I am here now to tell you that we will settle you on this estate." He showed them the grand plan. "Each of you will have one house with a big compound and some land around it to farm if you choose." The chief sat up in expectation of more promises. The elders also wiped their tears. This could compensate for their loss more than they envisaged.

"We are grateful," said the chief. "Yet, it cannot stop us from weeping over this sacred, lovely place we called home."
