Chapter 23 - The Day Everything Change (Part One)

Sora looked at the dungeon he built.

He really was poor. The good news was that Arkon left the dungeon during the night and Sora told him that he needed gold coins or things to sell in the System's [Shop].

With everything that Sylgard and Arkon gave him during the last two months, helped to collect enough money to buy some basic furniture for the five floors.

It was kind of difficult, and he needed to look into some architecture and design books to know how to use all the space available without making them crowded.

At first, he didn't understand how it worked, but he found that he was looking at the floors with a bird's sight. Then, he needed to be careful because the furniture and decorations needed to be well-placed, if not, they returned to his inventory.

Like that he spent the majority of his nights arranging everything.

Finally, the day everything will change came.

Sora got up and found a bunch of messages from the System.

The last message told him all that he needed.

Sora took everything he would need. He left his uniform and wore the one for training. All his books and notebooks were left also. He could buy some in the [Shop] if he needed them. He took the one that his 'family' gave him for his birthday, and also took the hoodie that Viktor sent him from Russia.

Everything was in order.

He was uneasy for that day.

The teachers told them that because the event was soon to end, they would take them to it for them to get familiar with crossing a portal (in the case of Sora, of crossing a portal normally), and then, after two hours they were going to leave.

Sora was hoping for an activity like that, and now, he had less than twenty-four hours to finish the mission. He hoped that Arkon and Sylgard knew the position of The Vampire King. The time was precious because he need it to get everyone that wasn't corrupted in there before the event finishes.

He was clueless about how the end of the event would be, but the experts were saying that the portal would close and, like before, the other portals would open again.

His team was already prepared and was waiting for him.

Once Gareth saw him he told everyone, "Let's go, the teacher might be waiting for us."

Like always, they were the last ones to arrive, this time the culprit was Sora.

The teacher only sighed and told them to get on the bus.

Sora's generation wasn't the only one going to the portal. Other generations were also coming, the older ones were from Kaneki's generation, which meant that Carlos Smith was also coming.

Carlos was waiting for an opportunity to get Sora alone and teach him a lesson, but because Sora had private training and his friends take him always to train as a team. He never got the chance during those few months. However, now that they were going to a dungeon, he was sure that he could launch at him an electric blow and tell the teachers it was an accident if they notice it was him.

A wicked smile appeared on his face making him look ugly.

Sora looked through the window and felt a bit sad, he maybe would miss everything. He hoped that the letters he left on his desk would arrive at their recipients. The first part was an apology, while the second was a sad promise.

*********

Viktor was waiting at one of the tents next to the portal that absorbed him three years ago with his best friend Sora. He was told to wait until the students arrived, for him to get into the same team as Sora. (A request he asked to the ones that organized the trip and that (for some reason) his brother seconded).

Ivankov was preparing his weapons and tools that would help him catch Sora. He was also getting ready for all the questions everyone (specifically his brother) will ask him.

Ivankov looked at the expectant face of his brother, he was soon going to reunite with Sora after so long.

Also, their arrival to the US was a secret. Ivankov told Viktor that it would be a surprise for his sister and brothers that were also going to the portal.

"Viktor, be ready and alert. Today is the last day of the event. We supposed that the portal will close, so be ready to leave. Also, because of being the last day, something unexpected can happen," Ivankov finished his last preparations and look at his brother.

"I understand, don't worry, I still remember some things of what happened inside the portal," Viktor smiled.

Ivankov was surprised by the sudden claim of his younger brother. Since the incident, Viktor avoided talking about what happened there. The only thing they knew was what Sora explained and the few words of Viktor about separating.

"Look! The busses are arriving!" Viktor signaled towards ten vehicles that were approaching the campsite.

*********

Gareth was talking with the teacher that was on the seat next to him and Sora.

"Right, Mr. Lloyds, a young hunter is going to be assigned to your team. He comes from Russia and requested to be assigned to the same team as Mr. Reith," the teacher informed Gareth, he was proclaimed to be the leader.

No one wanted that position, so they agreed to leave the burden to Gareth. Sora was the other choice, but he convinced them that Gareth was perfect for the job. Gareth looked at him with an annoyed (just kidding) expression, Sora shrugged and muttered sorry quietly.

When Sora heard the word 'Russia' he perked up his ears, paying attention to every word the teacher was saying.

"… his brother helped in bis request saying that originally he was going to be assigned to the same Academy as Mr.Reith, but for some family reasons, he left to Russia. Here is his name, level, and class. Try to adjust your formation with the new addition," the teacher sent Gareth the file for him to read by email.

Gareth opened the file and ask for his team's attention. Luckily, Yu and Rubí were already awake. Francis stopped what he was doing and Sora was already paying attention.

"We have a new member in our team, his name is Viktor Petrov, he's from Russia. Well, he is originally from here, but he left for Russia to live with his big brother. He has three classes…" Gareth was saying when Yu interrupted him.

"That's awesome!" Yu exclaimed, but then received a hit in his head from Rubí who was next to him.

Francis laughed softly, while Gareth just rolled his eyes. Sora was completely silent.

"Ahem!" Gareth cleared his voice and continued, "like I was saying, his classes are a swordsman (two-blade holder), a firer or shooter (two gun holder), and a… a Druid!?" Gareth was surprised.

In summary, Viktor was perfect to be left alone, he could fight in short and large distances and even heal himself.

Sora was happy for Viktor. At least he could survive and live a long life. However, he felt that the Druid class was like something given by System by being one of the first two people who entered the portal.

In one of his school classes, the teacher explained that when a new portal opened, the first five to enter it will receive a prize. He heard after he woke that only three people received a reward when they got into the dungeon, meaning that Viktor and… he?… received a reward. His was still unknown, but now, he felt that the third class (Occupation) was Viktor's reward in fact.

"Being a Druid is rare, my instructor told me that some Occupations were more common for hunters and others for adventurers. Druid being one commonly between adventurers," Rubí explained to the team.

"I think is good to have another healer," Francis said frankly. It was strange, but one could assume the importance and benefit of having two healers in their party.

"For he having three classes, is ok for me," Yu exclaimed with his usual cheery behavior.

Gareth and the rest looked at Sora.

Sora maybe saved himself from being the leader, but Gareth considered him his right hand.

"I know the guy, he is my best friend and brother," Sora admitted.

Everyone knew now that he was from an orphanage, so they understood that Viktor was his brother in all but blood.

"So?" Gareth pressed.

"I'm good with having him in the team," Sora said while thinking 'this way you'll be still a time of five once I am gone'.

"Perfect, so he can help Yu and me in the front, while Rubí stayed back with you to protect you," Gareth explained the changes.

This way, Francis could avoid wasting maná in healing everyone and concentrate on Sora, Rubí, and him, unless the front needed help, while Viktor could use his quick healing spells in Yu, Gareth, and him to keep with the pace of the fight.

Fifteen minutes later, they arrived at the campsite.

There they saw many hunters waiting to enter for the last time to the dungeon.

Once they got outside the bus, Sora was hugged by someone a bit taller than him.

"Wow! Careful man!" Rubí exclaimed while holding up her arms. She was close to crashing with the sudden stopped Sora.

"Hahaha!" Yu laughed.

Francis and Gareth smiled.

"Haha! Sorry, I was excited to see again Sora, it's been three years," Viktor let go of Sora but his hand was still posed in his shoulder, "I'm Viktor Petrov by the way," he presented himself while extending his hand.

"Gareth Lloyds, nice to meet you," Gareth accepted the gesture and shook their hands.

"You seemed a bit apprehensive," Rubí noticed the way Viktor's eyes were looking at the portal.

"Well, haha, that's because three years ago, Sora and I were absorbed by the portal went it appeared and opened," Viktor said with a mix of emotions.

Gareth, Yu, Rubí, and Francis looked at Sora with surprise on their faces.

"So you were one of the two boys who miraculously survived!" Yu, as always, exclaimed with surprise and his eyes opened as plates.

"Yes, it was somewhat traumatic," Sora remembered the shock when Arkon and Sylgard pledge loyalty to him and the fear when the shadow wave tried to swallow him.

"Sorry for making you remember bad memories," Francis, as always the most sensitive between the five (now six), apologized on behalf of Yu.

"Don't worry, we need to overcome it one day, right Sora?" Viktor knew that between both, Sora was the one that like to talk less from their experience inside.

Sora nodded and a quick smile appeared on his face.

In that moment, everyone, including Sora, received a message from the System. That avoided for them to noticed his beautiful smile, except one person that had been observing him since they arrived.
