One thing that should be made clear is that, if they had known, the ugly bandit gang would not have messed with heavenly doctor Ming and Bai Jingfei.
They were obviously not going to get any gold out of those two anyway.
It would save them a lot of time, effort and mental pain to just leave at this point but they had no idea yet. All they thought they were doing was robbing some random passersby group.
The ugly bandit gang had no clue they were robbing a heavenly doctor and the prime minister's daughter. They were just some random scum, they couldn't even dream of robbing such high ranked people.
While it wasn't common knowledge that the mountain belonged to the one and only heavenly doctor Ming, it certainly would have done the robbers good to simply find out from a local. Now they had trapped themselves.
Bai Jingfei glared at the bear-man hybrid boss as soon as she heard the word 'gold'.
"No. Now move, we have to go back," Bai Jingfei took a pause to yawn, "I need to take a nap."
Heavenly doctor Ming looked at the robbers in disdain. He scratched his head and instantly changed his expression to a business smile.
"You heard Feifei, now move."
Bear-man hybrid bandit boss frowned. His threats were having no effects on the duo he was so desperately trying to scare. While it was true that he was a bandit, he had never killed anyone. Everyone had been so scared they'd simply handed the money over.
Of course he didn't want to kill the group, blood made him squeamish too. He just wanted to rob these people and go home too.
"Go and take their gol-" he started saying when he was interrupted by heavenly doctor Ming.
"So where did you get that scratch?" He had totally messed up the rhythm of the bandit gang and they stared quizzically at him, "I thought you were going to tell us? Don't leave us in suspense…"
The bandit gang looked at each other for a few minutes and then stared at their boss in admiration. The wonky tooth man spoke, his voice filled with pride.
"The boss got it fighting a bear, bare handed!"
Heavenly doctor Ming put on a dramatic frown. His eyes stared at the floor, refusing to make eye contact with the bear-man hybrid bandit boss.
He then decided to begin his skit. It was going to be quite amusing to watch to say the very least.
"Ah he's so young, he would've had so much potential… What a tragedy." he said sadly. He then turned to Bai Jingfei. She was simply staring at heavenly doctor Ming, waiting for him to make a move so she could play along.
"Priestess NingNing, can you not see the spirit hanging off of his shoulders."
Bai Jingfei was speechless. She was hoping he would use his own identity but he was pretending to be a priest. Was he not scared of divine punishment?
Bai Jingfei nodded nonetheless.
The bandit boss glared at heavenly doctor Ming.
"Who are you? Are you a priest?" he yelled. It was obvious he had at least fallen for heavenly doctor Ming's bullshit. It wasn't a bad thing though. It meant Bai Jingfei would get to go home and take a nap on time.
"A priest? Do you know who you're talking to? I'm not your everyday priest!" roared heavenly doctor Ming. He then pulled out a red talisman from his pocket.
Heavenly doctor Ming was like an oyster without the "oy" and with "fraud" instead. He was showing this talisman off but if you looked closely enough it still had traces of mucus on it.
He had bought the talisman from head priest Tang but had been using it as a handkerchief for the last few weeks. He'd blown his nose on it at least a few times.
You'd think that he wouldn't be able to fool anyone with a shoddy prop like that, but it was more than enough to convince a band of brainless numbskulls who were only alive because they had enough muscles to masquerade as thugs.
The bandits stared in horror. Every common person in the kingdom knew of that symbol. It was head priest Tang's symbol. Their mouths were wide open looking at the hanky that was worth quite a bit.
Things with the symbol on it were extremely expensive to buy and were always personally handed out by head priest Tang. Not just anyone could obtain it, and there was only one priest who would be carrying it around.
Head priest Tang himself.
While Bai Jingfei was quite aware that the man was a fraud too, everyone in the kingdom quite revered him. He was a symbol of prosperity.
Now you might be wondering why heavenly doctor Ming didn't just say 'I'm heavenly doctor Ming.' Well the first reason would be that he was greedy. He only catered to nobles so the commoners didn't have much, if any knowledge of what he did.
Secondly, that would be like parading around with a sign saying "rob me". Heavenly doctor Ming was rich and everyone knew it.
And finally because he wanted to cause trouble.
The bandits bowed their heads in embarrassment and looked at their boss yet again for some sort of reaction. Whatever he said, the rest of the group would follow.
"Head priest Tang, forgive us for not recognizing you." he said softly, a large difference from when he was yelling at the top of his voice to catch their attention.
Bai Jingfei watched as her hypocritical teacher, who had complained to the emperor that he was being impersonated, impersonated head priest Tang. She suddenly felt like her impersonation skills were lacking.
She still had a lot to learn from heavenly doctor Ming.
Heavenly doctor Ming, or now, head priest Tang now took his chance to strike.
Bear-man hybrid bandit leader was going to regret attacking this group later.
