"Let's go rob him" whispered heavenly doctor Ming villainously.
Bai Jingfei couldn't help but stare at him out of pure, unadulterated shock. She knew very well that heavenly doctor Ming was a little messed up, but she didn't think he was that messed up…
Well Bai Jingfei was no one to talk in that situation. She was definitely worse than heavenly doctor Ming. By quite a margin too.
Heavenly doctor Ming wouldn't have suggested robbery if he didn't know heavenly doctor Ling or how rich he truly was. Heavenly doctor Ming was doing this purely to spite his longtime rival. He was only telling Bai Jingfei because he needed some help.
That help would include picking the saffron off the plant because that was a delicate process which needed small, slim fingers. It would also include propping heavenly doctor Ming over the wall to heavenly doctor Ling's medical hall.
Also Bai Jingfei was the only one who knew where the plant was actually kept.
Except heavenly doctor Ling and his students of course.
But could he really go up to heavenly doctor Ling, blush a little and ask "Where is your saffron plant, I'd like to rob you!"? That'd be ridiculous.
Bai Jingfei was going to reject heavenly doctor Ming till she understood what the plant was worth.
Of course the heavenly doctor Ming was a penny pincher and pretty greedy, but the plant must be worth quite a bit for her teacher to want to steal it.
Bai Jingfei nodded quietly.
"Are you sure Teacher?"
Heavenly doctor Ming grinner, puffing his chest out and putting his hands on his hips. The stance of a dying owl or pufferfish. He then proceeded to boast.
"Of course. If we don't rob him, who will?"
Now this sort of illogical logic was exactly the kind of logic that convinced Bai Jingfei. She didn't really mind robbing heavenly doctor Ling but it would be a slight bit suspicious if he was to get robbed the day after he showed her the plant.
But then again, if heavenly doctor Ling were to blame her she could simply hide behind heavenly doctor Ming, her great buddha.
Later that evening the duo returned to jade medical hall without Ladder.
It was dusk and the sun was just setting beyond the horizon, dyeing the entire city in rich colors. The nobles' market was quiet as usual but because of how quiet it was, you could hear the hustle and bustle of the commoners' market that was just closing up.
Heavenly doctor Ming had chosen this timing specifically because he had never come to the jade medical hall at this time before. He could always say something like:
"I've never come out at that time before, how could it have been me?"
That sort of excuse never would have passed if it were anyone else but everyone knew heavenly doctor Ming. He had far more patients than heavenly doctor Ling anyway, what would be his motive for robbing heavenly doctor Ling?
Spite.
But no one else would know, so it was easy pickings for heavenly doctor Ming.
The two of them walked to the back of the medical hall to the garden at the back that was in shambles unlike heavenly doctor Ling's garden.
Heavenly doctor Ming turned around to check if there was anyone around but found himself getting dizzy in the process, forcing him to take support on the wall he was going to climb over in a few minutes.
Bai Jingfei sighed. Maybe bringing Ladder would've been a good choice for them.
Heavenly doctor Ming threw his walking stick over the short wall and stuck his leg onto the wall. Within a few moments he found that he was stuck there.
"FeiFei give me a boost please" he whispered, not at all embarrassed.
Wall climbing at his age was definitely not easy but that's why most people his age avoided it all together. Heavenly doctor Ming looked quite stupid in his position.
Bai Jingfei stared at her illustrious "heavenly doctor" teacher who was stuck on a wall that came up to his hip and was flailing like a bird trying to get unstuck, while calling for Bai Jingfei to help him.
She let out a little sigh.
She could already tell that this "mission" was going to be a long and very painful one.
Putting her hand under his other foot, Bai Jingfei propped Heavenly doctor Ming on to the wall. He slowly pulled his other leg over, wiggling like a worm to get into position to get down.
Bai Jingfei walked over to the wall and easily got down. The wall wasn't very high and Bai Jingfei couldn't be bothered to do any of the drama heavenly doctor Ming had just done.
The two of them got over the wall after a good bit of struggle and Bai Jingfei led heavenly doctor Ming to the table on which the saffron was kept.
There were many other plants there too which heavenly doctor Ming seemed to recognize.
"Ah… Why does Ling have all this good stuff!"
Bai Jingfei sighed as she watched heavenly doctor Ming stumble around like a child staring at all the expensive plants that heavenly doctor Ling owned.
He touched the jasmine flowers blooming there and grinned as he took a look at the gigantic saffron plant.
"Oh this stuff really is, high quality, good stuff!" he mumbled to himself, his eyes lighting up as he stared at the gigantic purple flower in front of him.
But Bai Jingfei felt strangely unsettled.
She wanted to smile at heavenly doctor Ming but something felt wrong. She had a sense of discomfort and was sure this was either, not going to end well, or, cause a lot of trouble.
Bai Jingfei perked up her ears, feeling a strange sense of deja vu as she heard footsteps from behind them. She knew, yet again, she was in a mess.
She couldn't help but think to herself…
'Why am I always in these situations?'
